They have a week off to regroup, I think they will be fine.

I am not enamored with the Panthers
I think the Eagles are the team you need to look out for ;)
They have the best shot at taking you down if they are on their game

Minnesota? Bah, all they have is Peterson
Carolina? Make the game close, but then choke
Cardinals? Shouldn't be there
Falcons? I don't think they can stop the run :(

Giants/Eagles would be a good game. They both have 1 win against each other. I think it would be an evenly matched game.

I say draft a QB in a high round and bring back Favre for one more year to win and teach the kid. The team still is loaded with talent.

The last thing you want is Favre teaching your new QB.

He's a textbook case of what not to do, yet it seems to work for him more than it fails, although it's been failing more in recent years that it used to.

Any new QB who studies Favre on what to do, will not last long in the league.

I would have to agree
What worked for Favre isn't likely to work for others
He was not prototypical in any way, and he improvised his way along

And, as he showed with Aaron Rogers... he isn't particularly willing to be a tutor

Yikes,I don't think I'd want Favre tutoring any young QB. He likes to play by his rules, and when he can't,things don't go well. Didn't help that he was in NY,and not in GB. He didn't have his usual cadre of media appologists around him there..I also think his age caught up with him down the stretch, not to mention the fact that he showed up about a week before the season started It's time for him to go back to the farm and ride the tractor. The last two endings to the last two seasons should spell that out for him.Whether or not his ego can accept that is a different story...

Madden was making a huge point of how important that ratio is. Throwing interceptions as much as touchdowns is a very bad sign for any team.

The reason the Cardinals are there could largely be due to Warner's good ratio of 30 TDs to 14 interceptions. Now if they only had a defense up to par like that.

Indy didn't win their division but Peyton was 27 TDs and 12 interceptions, so I consider them a threat on offense.

The Giants, with their running game the star, still have Eli with just 21 TDs, but only 10 interceptions.

The reason I am not so enthusiastic about the Steelers is that their QB threw only 17 TDs to 15 interceptions, close to a 1 to 1 ratio, and then got injured on top of it. I don't know if only defense can carry a team all the way.

There are many other factors though that bid well for Steelers like their crucial ability to stop the run and if they meet the Giants in the Super Bowl, this may force Eli to pass much more which may not be a good thing. While Eli has a lot going for him, he's not in the same league as his brother.

A solid defense is more than capable of winning a SB. The 2000 Ravens had an under 200 point defense (which may not be done for a while) and won the SB with a less than average QB in Dilfer. When you have a D that good,it makes up for any lack of offense as it will make and create points. A solid D, an even average QB,and a decent running game can win a SB...

Agreed.

Better defense usually beat better offense. And the Bucs showed that to my Raiders a few years back. Gannon to Rice was the combo of the year, or one of them in the NFL that year, and the Bucs just shut them down. I wanted to see the famous Raiders-Niners-Broncos run after the catch but Tampa Bay wasn't going to have much of that. It was also no help that the coach who rebuilt the Raiders was coaching the Bucs. :)

There are too many good QBs, receivers, and RBs for the Steelers to consistently stop and unless they can score points themselves, it will be hard. The Titans have that good defense, and just enough of an offense, to make it happen. But there are Titans injuries so the offense that carried them all year may not be intact to full capacity, but I think the Titans defense will be OK enough. While an offensive giant or a defensive giant can do it on just half a team being great, balance is probably most important. That's what led the Cowboys to three Super Bowls in four years in the '90s.

And what will stop the Cardinals is that while they have the pass down, a future hall of fame QB, they don't have the defense that can live up to the rest of the top seeds. I don't really feel so strongly about any one-sided teams. Anyway the teams I root for in the Bay Area are not there, and the pet team I adopted, a Brady-less Patriots, are out. But it would be nice to see Big Ben or Warner get another ring and not have Brady be the only QB of his generation to flash all the rings. One or both Mannings will be multiple Super Bowl winners. If this is not the case, then this will have been known as the Brady generation or the Patriots generation. :)

Absolutely.

You know what they say...

Offense wins games, but defense wins championships.

The door to the New York Jets' opening might not be closed for Bill Cowher just yet after all.

A high-ranking Jets official told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that the team is still planning to speak to Cowher about its vacant head coaching job. No time or place for the interview has been set, but the official says the Jets would be willing to do "whatever is necessary" to land Cowher if he is truly interested in taking the job.

That would mean Tannenbaum would give up being the GM..Cowher has said he's not going anywhere unless he total and complete control of football operations..Getting rid of Tannenbaum would be good move for the Jets..

The report said that Tannenbaum would step aside as GM.
Initially, ESPN.com's John Clayton reported Cowher told the Jets he was not interested because he wanted his own personnel director. The Jets official's response indicates the team is willing to let Cowher replace current general manager Mike Tannenbaum with his own candidate.
A Jets source also said Tannenbaum says he's willing to adjust his position to accommodate Cowher.

Shanahan fired in Denver.
DENVER -- Mike Shanahan, the second longest-tenured NFL coach, was fired by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday after the team lost a three-game lead with three games to go in the AFC West.

Shanahan, 56, coached the Broncos since 1995, behind only Tennessee's Jeff Fisher in tenure with one team. He led the Broncos to consecutive Super Bowl victories in 1998 and 1999 and compiled a record of 146-89 with the team.

In a statement, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said: "After giving this careful consideration, I have concluded that a change in our football operations is in the best interests of the Denver Broncos. This is certainly a difficult decision, but one that I feel must be made and which will ultimately be in the best interests of all concerned."

It won't be bad for long. Way out here in California, anytime we hear the name Browns, we hear the word Cowher. That should be interesting.
Yeah, but not the way you think.

Monday, speaking to the Browns, Cowher said he is not interested in returning to the NFL, likes his life in NC, wants the more relaxed pace of being a TV analyst, and is not interested in being interviewed.

Tuesday, speaking to the Jets, he said "Let's talk."

WTF?

Okay, I heard one or two people say that out of a sense of loyalty to the Rooneys and Pittsboig, he might not want to interview with their divisional rival. Well then just say that. Don't give us this song and dance about how you're not interested in interviewing for a coaching job.

**** him. Bring on Mangini and Pioli.

Wow, I didn't see that one coming. Who are they going to get that is better than Shanahan? Granted, his team faded at the end but they weren't expected to be good anyway. Besides, they were only in a do-or-die situation because the ref blew a call in Game 2... they should have been one game behind or equal to the Chargers all the way.

Thomas, it's like this, you ask a pretty girl out on Friday night and she says she's babysitting or something. I ask the same girl out on the very same night and she says, "Absolutely! I'm looking forward to it!"

That's the difference.

Actually, the only coach with a record around those number is John Madden of the Raiders of the 60s-70s. Some college coaches have that ratio, but that's college.

That blown call happened in week 2.There were 14 weeks after that. To say it affected the outcome of the season is weak. Chargers didn't exactly over achieve this year. They were picked by many to be a 1, 2 or 3 seed in the AFC. Broncos could have put it away in December but couldn't get it done and did everything they could to let SD win the AFCW...
Shanahan is a helluva coach that will draw plenty of interest.

Aloha, Hawaii: Pro Bowl reportedly moved to Miami in 2010
The Pro Bowl will be moved to a week before the Super Bowl and will be played at the site of the game beginning in 2010, the Associated Press reported today. This move comes after years of speculation and is a clear attempt to reinvigorate a game that barely registers with hardcore NFL fans, let alone the general sporting public.

Cowher to the Broncos?

First off, Cowher only won one Super Bowl. Went to two but all through his tenure in Pittsburgh he supported crappy QBs. So I don't think he is nearly as good as everyone thinks.

Frankly, I'd hold out for either the Skins or Cowboys teams next year (unless a show drops this year). Kansas City would probably be a great fit for him as well (fiery guy in a college-like stadium).
