I've gotta admit I'm getting sick of everyone in CA acting like the USC is almighty.

You might be sick of it, but it's true.

Yeah you didn't show up against Oregon State, but you toppled mighty Ohio State

Oh, you mean the game that was supposed to "test" us?

I'm sorry, but I've got no respect for a conference where an opponent is beaten by 69 points and besides mighty OSU, USC hasn't played anyone.

You don't need to have respect for the conference as a whole, just for USC. We are 5-1 in BCS bowl games. That's all I need to say.

Well badandy, I have to say that it's only the fans of USC that I've seen lauding their team. Everyone else seems to think they're very much overrated. Out here the talk of the town is how crappy the Pac 10 is, the Mountain West (a supposedly inferior conference) went 6 and 1 against the Pac 10 this year. There were rumblings about Utah seceding from the MWC and joining up with the Pac, but nobody even wants to consider that option anymore, the Pac just wouldn't show our relative strength like the MWC does lately. We've got 3 top 25 BCS teams, how many does the Pac 10 have?

And let me tell you, the USC rating is crap and even you know it. Look what happened to BYU, they lose to a team that is ranked in the top 15 in the BCS polls and who would rock any team in the Pac (yes even USC) and they go from #9 to #21.

I hate USC and yes I do think that right now the Utes would hand them their hats on the field. Perhaps we'll get a match up in the BCS this year.

That's the only game the media could even consider a test as the rest of your schedule is full of cupcakes.

I'll apologize for the ranting. I'm just stuck a CA now and get tired of hearing of the USC love. Besides, MacDawgs team hasn't given me enough to complain about in recent days. Brace yourself for Thanksgiving time for those talks MacDawg. Will you be at the game this year?

Don't need to apologize - I live here! Their fans are horrible. Even the USC coaches complain about their fans. Especially since everyone knows that as soon as USC has a down year, they'll all completely disappear. ;)

We allow fewer PPG.

As you should against the complete lack of quality in your conference. Again I'll point out that the team USC lost to, Utah held to basically the same number of points, but managed to score more points against. And it was a week after the fact, with a very fired up Oregon State team.

Man I hate USC and the superiority complex of their fans.

Man I hate USC and the superiority complex of their fans.

It's an image thing. They don't care about the football - they just want something that makes them look good. Look at their attendance figures during the down years - you'll see what I mean. It's all image and no substance.

I try not to blame them too much - I'd probably be the same way if mommy and daddy bought my degree and sent me off in a BMW too. :p

I think there are two reasons USC is so highly ranked. I believe the first reason is USC's consistency of having successful seasons, and the second is them hammering Ohio State which seems to have finally come out of its shell. Every game that Ohio wins helps USC.

I hate USC and yes I do think that right now the Utes would hand them their hats on the field. Perhaps we'll get a match up in the BCS this year.

Hey, I'm a Utah fan behind Boise State, but I think that statement is laughable. Heh heh. Whether you hate USC or not there is no denying that they have a LOT of talent on their football team.

To say Utah would beat USC simply because Utah beat Oregon State at home is ridiculous. Oregon State was SO much more pumped for USC than for Utah, you could tell just by watching the game. USC had the worst game of their season versus Oregon State. Utah's best road win was by two points over a rebuilding 2-5 Michigan team.

I dunno, I'm all for the positive thinking for your team, but we need to be realistic too.

If Utah gets past both TCU and BYU (playing at home helps a ton), then they absolutely deserve to get that BCS bid, and you can be sure that I'll be cheering for them regardless of who they play. :)

Well badandy, I have to say that it's only the fans of USC that I've seen lauding their team.
Everyone else seems to think they're very much overrated.

Or it's the NFL scouts who consistently pick Trojan players high in the draft every year. Or it's the teams we crush in BCS bowls. Just because we are the media darling does NOT mean we're overrated. That's been said for the past six years. And guess what's happened? A 5-1 BCS bowl game record.

You know, there's a reason LSU, despite all their big SEC talk and Pac 10 bashing, refused to play us.

Out here the talk of the town is how crappy the Pac 10 is, the Mountain West (a supposedly inferior conference) went 6 and 1 against the Pac 10 this year.

You think I give a rat's bum about how good or bad you think the Pac 10 is? People recognize talent when they see it.

There were rumblings about Utah seceding from the MWC and joining up with the Pac, but nobody even wants to consider that option anymore, the Pac just wouldn't show our relative strength like the MWC does lately. We've got 3 top 25 BCS teams, how many does the Pac 10 have?

Oh give me a break. We have one bad year and everyone jumps on the Pac 10. Last I remember, Oregon would have made (and probably won) the BCS championship game last year had Dennis Dixon (a legitimate Heisman contender) not injured his knee.

And let me tell you, the USC rating is crap and even you know it. Look what happened to BYU, they lose to a team that is ranked in the top 15 in the BCS polls and who would rock any team in the Pac (yes even USC) and they go from #9 to #21.

Laughable.

I hate USC and yes I do think that right now the Utes would hand them their hats on the field.

Keep the hate coming, but people in your own conference know what's best for them.

Perhaps we'll get a match up in the BCS this year.

Perhaps, and if you do really well and continue to do really well by getting BCS games for six years and performing outstandingly in all of them, you'll get the benefit of the doubt in the future when flukes happen or when you're being compared against other teams with similar numbers of losses.

That's the only game the media could even consider a test as the rest of your schedule is full of cupcakes.

Does that make us any worse? Again, Kobe Bryant playing high schoolers doesn't make him any less "Kobe".

Especially since everyone knows that as soon as USC has a down year, they'll all completely disappear. ;)

Look at the once proud franchises like the Celtics and Lakers. Until both of them started doing well in the last year or two, their attendances were down. Boston Celtics fans are some of the most bandwagon fans I've ever seen. Unlike you, however, I will mention that the bandwagoning applies to some of the fans, not all. It's the same at USC.

Man I hate USC and the superiority complex of their fans.

It's not a complex if you really are superior.

I try not to blame them too much - I'd probably be the same way if mommy and daddy bought my degree and sent me off in a BMW too. :p

I think you're a little ticked off that USC is more academically prestigious than Texas. It's alright, we all can't get into USC.

I think there are two reasons USC is so highly ranked. I believe the first reason is USC's consistency of having successful seasons
Bingo.

Hey, I'm a Utah fan behind Boise State, but I think that statement is laughable. Heh heh. Whether you hate USC or not there is no denying that they have a LOT of talent on their football team.

It is laughable. And I like both Utah and Boise State.

To say Utah would beat USC simply because Utah beat Oregon State at home is ridiculous.

It's not only ridiculous, it's indicative of someone who doesn't really know sports. Hey, the Atlanta Hawks beat the Spurs last year in the NBA. Since the Toronto Raptors beat the Hawks, I bet they're better than the Spurs!!!111one

LOL - Badandy, I'm sorry man. You're just too funny. For most college football fans, it's fun to talk smack because people are proud of their schools, and we can go back and forth all day long with smiles on our faces. It's all good natured. But it's not every day that I run into someone that completely epitomizes the smack that I'm spewing. I'm pretty sure that's your intent though - I find it hard to believe that you're truly serious about a lot of what you're typing.

I give USC's fans crap because they're the lamest in college athletics, but the team is still damned good. It's not their fault the Pac-10 is down this year. I do think they have the most athletic talent, but that doesn't necessarily equate to the best team. They're exciting to watch, and I don't blame the media for always being gaga over them.

They're going to need some help with an OU loss though. Either that or they'll need all three undefeated teams to lose. I just hope Texas doesn't contribute to that tomorrow against oSu. We're due for a bad game.

Of course I don't want the bad game to happen against Tech either. I'll never hear the end of it from Rodimus! :)

I do think they have the most athletic talent, but that doesn't necessarily equate to the best team.

That is so true. :)

In my own neck of the woods; Boise handled San Jose fairly easily tonight 33-16. The hype leading up to this game was kind of weird, it was almost as if Boise was the underdog. Very odd, but we took care of business. Again our defense was stellar behind an inconsistent offense. The offense does seem to be getting better game-by-game, but I wish they would hurry up and finally click!

On another note... what's interesting to me is that the first BCS rankings have Boise at #12 with Utah at #11. The difference between the two spots is very minimal, but Utah had played two more games than Boise. So if Utah is #11 at 8-0 and Boise is #12 at 6-0, does that mean Boise's wins are worth more than Utah's?

With the win tonight I wonder if Boise jumps Utah in the polls on Sunday? Doubtful, but not out of the realm of possibilities.

Thanks.

Mind quoting any one of my replies where I'm not serious? (no, seriously)

well I will be blunt. I hope and expect Texas Tech kick UT's ass on Nov 1st. I do want them to ruined UT chances because that means Tech is one step closer to being the Big 12 champion.

That and I just like to see the Raiders win.

Go Tech.

No question about Tech today. They showed up and manhandled Kansas pretty good. If they play like that next week against Texas, they will win. Texas today does not look like the #1 team in the nation.

I am glad I record the Tech vs Kanas game and started watching it 1/2 threw. It was a game worth skimming but not fun to watch. Only so much entertanment out of watching a slaughter like that.

Just watching Kanas fail time and time again to even make it across the 50 was sad.

As for UT vs OSU you need to remember OSU is a good team and clearly better than MU. OSU and Texas Tech quite often are under rated teams and this year clearly they are good. I expet to see Texas struggle in today and next week game. They will both be hard games for all teams involved.

Texas Tech has to face UT then OSU which will both be hard games.

Texas definitely doesn't look as explosive offensively as last week, but I think a lot of that is due to OK State's defense.

I still think they look like a #1 team, and unless they have a major meltdown I say they'll be playing in Miami come January.

Georgia is handling LSU so far, which is great because I have an... acquaintance... who is unbearable when LSU is winning, so it's nice not having to listen to him. Heh heh.

EDIT: Well, McCoy just fumbled the ball with five minutes left in the game because apparently the guy thinks he's a running back. His team is up by four points on the ten yard line and he gives up the ball and three points because he won't get DOWN!

Fool.

Oh well, looks like they'll still pull it off because of a very poor coaching decision on fourth and seven. Should have taken a timeout instead of giving up the ball on downs. Sheesh.

Well, we dodged a bullet. Ugly and full of mistakes, but a win is a win, and it was against a pretty damned good oSu team. But obviously we'll have to be a lot better against Tech or they'll beat the bajeezus out of us.

I don't disagree with our ranking in the sense that we probably have more quality wins than any of the other undefeated teams, but I really don't think we're genuinely a #1 squad. We just don't have that champion caliber D. We'll see though - that's why they play the games.

The one thing that I'm worried about is if Colt McCoy doesn't start getting down at the end of his scrambles/runs he's going to get hurt.

Their ENTIRE offense is McCoy. If he goes down so does the team.

Just got back from watching UA-TN. Absolutely delicious, especially the cutaway shots to Fulmer hanging his head in shame and random UT fans that looked like they were about to cry, had fallen asleep, or were dressed up as empty seats.

Definitely good to see that the Tide remembered that they are in fact allowed to score points in the second half.

Top ten teams. Next week is the National Championship game, so after that we can all start watching basketball (where they know how to determine the real champion).

Pac 10 and Big Ten are pretender conferences. Everyone see how slow Penn State and Ohio State are?

1. Texas Tech
2. Texas
3. Alabama
4. Oklahoma State
5. Utah
6. Florida
7. Oklahoma
8. Georgia
9. Boise State
10. USC

Pac 10 and Big Ten are pretender conferences. Everyone see how slow Penn State and Ohio State are?

i was thinking about this over the past week or so if the mountain west conference could become one of the major conferences in the near future. i remember that someone suggested that the pac 10 and big 10 could decide to opt out of the next bcs contract and stick to their rose bowl tradition. if that happens, the players will not consider playing in the conference because they won't play in the national championship. less players go to the pac 10, and the mwc becomes an option for west coast players now, with it on the rise.

the other thing is that the mwc has it's games accessible nationally (at least on directv), while the pac-10 really does not. many of the pac 10's games are regional and on hard to find networks, so you don't really see them as much. they need a network or to get a contract with fox for a game of the week (like sec on cbs). it's something to think about.

Canes have won 3 straight. Things maybe coming together a little bit. Next few weeks will show us what they have left:
•@Virgina
•Virgina Tech
•@Georgia Tech
•@NC State

Side note. As much as I hate UT they really do look good. Colt McCoy has got to be ther front runner for the Heisman.
