Here is hoping a Alabama vs Texas for the BCS championship. Not counting my chickens just yet thou. Alabama has a few tough games left. The teams may not be high on the ranking, but they are tough teams against Alabama. Not that I don't like them or anything, but I am really surprised that LSU is still in the top 25.... I would of thought with the beating they took along with it being there second loss, they would be out. Very interesting.

I think what with the handful of two-lossers in the 20-25 range their #19 spot is pretty fair.

Anyone watch Tulsa tonight? UCF could have pulled it off had they actually shown up in the second half. Heh heh.

As a Boise State fan I love that we're ranked so high, but I think there is just too much emphasis given to smaller teams that go undefeated, including Boise.

So let's look at the undefeated non-BCS teams...

#10 Utah, 8-0.
--Their only "quality" wins have come against a 2-6 Michigan team and a 4-3 Oregon State team whose only claim to fame was beating USC.

#11 Boise State, 7-0
--Their only "quality" win comes against a 6-2 Oregon team who has struggled at QB this year, and has finally climbed back in to the top 25 at #24. The defense is solid, but the offense has yet to find itself.

#13 TCU, 8-1
--Along with Texas they are the only team to hold Oklahoma to less than 45 points. Then they beat an over-hyped BYU team that had no place in the top ten.

#16 Ball State, 8-0
--The only team they have beaten with a winning record is Navy at 5-3.

#18 Tulsa, 7-0 (at time of rankings)
--No real "quality" victories, but their offense is VERY explosive. The question begs, is the offense truly great, or are the defenses they've faced lacking?

#20 BYU, 7-1
--Squeaked out a win over Washington, and then took care a few weaker teams before facing a good defense for the first time and getting dominated.

*************

So do any of these teams deserve their spots, or do we need to just forget about all these smaller schools and let the "big boys" get bigger?

Surely, you recognize that you saying that those were their only two quality wins is purely a matter of opinion, right?

They've had a lot of quality wins this year, last weeks game was an incredible showing.

And they've got even more "quality wins" strung all through the month of November. New Mexico is this week, followed by TCU which is followed by San Diego State (which is no quality opponent) and then BYU. If the Utes can win all those games then yes I think they deserve a top 10 spot. It's not like this would be the first time, it happened for the Utes once or twice in the 90's as well.

Who does Boise State have left on their schedule, or for that matter, who have they even played thus far?

...ridiculous rant...

Mercy, I wasn't attacking your precious Utah. Get over yourself. I mentioned Michigan and Oregon State because that's what I see nearly every Utah fan on espn.com mention every time their schedule comes in to question.

I was simply trying to make the point that none of the non-BCS teams really have any big wins over quality teams, and due to this do they really deserve their top spots?

Frankly I'm worried about what will happen if Boise does get in to a BCS bowl because their offense hasn't clicked all season. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Boise, so to see them so highly ranked is great but worrisome.

First off, I didn't take your comment as attacking Utah, second off, they aren't my "precious Utes" I'm just a student who attends there. I think it's you who needs to get over yourself, sometimes people in this life are going to disagree with you and you should get used to that.

I simply feel the need to point out the fact that the Utes have a descent schedule this year. Probably stronger than in 2004, and I think that any team that's able to stay undefeated should have a high ranking.

And if that's not good enough for you then visit the USA today BCS rankings site and note that even the computers have the Utes ranked at #7, and that's almost entirely based on strength of schedule vs wins/losses. Earlier on in the season, Utah had a majority of the preliminary computer rankings putting their schedule at #3 in the country. Now that they've spent a few weeks playing the patsy's in the MWC their ranking os still #7 in the computers. And 10 and 9 from the humans who's votes actually count. So yeah I'd say that they deserve their ranking until the season ends or a loss proves otherwise (hopefully the first option).

Looking into it, Boise State played a tough Oregon team and won, so their ranking is probably boosted quite a bit by that fact.

Fair enough. Moving on.

I say it will be Texas and Florida in the NC.

Come on MacDawg, prove me wrong this weekend!

I like the way the Dawgs match up against the Gators.
If we can slow down Percy Harvin we have a good shot.

If we do, we should be heavy favorites in the rest of our games until the SEC Championship game. The winner of this game no doubt wins the East. Alabama will likely win the West. I would like vindication for our one loss and I think the Dawgs would be better prepared this time around.

As far as the NC, I don't see a 1 loss team jumping an undefeated Penn State, although it could be justified. A one loss USC team probably is the first one in, right or wrong. If every one loses one, it could be USC and Texas, or Alabama unless their loss is the SEC Championship. I don't see Oklahoma making it if they are locked out of the Big 12 Championship. They will have the same trouble Georgia faced last year. Although it has been done in the past, I think last year's statement against UGA was pretty clear. It could set up to be jumble like last year. I don't think you will find many who would say Ohio State and LSU were the 2 best teams at the end of the year. I think there is a good argument that USC and UGA were.

The Big Game © is tomorrow and our campus is going crazy. There are about 500 RVs setup and thousands of students camping out near the stadium. ESPN is already here and people are patiently waiting to get their chance to be on TV tomorrow morning. Oh to be back in college... well, except for the classes and loans and ... never mind. I will be happy to sit in my chair in my house to watch tech beatup on Texas tomorrow night!

I think Tech will win by 21 points. Maybe more is they can knock down McCoy some and get him hurt. That guy just doesn't understand getting down when he is about to get hit. Tech has some big guys to hit him too. :D

Here is hoping you are right!!!!

That guy just doesn't understand getting down when he is about to get hit.

You are SO right!

McCoy is Texas' offense. Him. If (when) he gets hurt because he can't get down it's going to destroy the team.

The guy needs to realize this and stop trying to get that extra yard.

It's like Pryor trying to go outside and getting the ball knocked out against Penn State last weekend. Your job is to make big plays through the air, not on the ground.

I still think Texas pulls this out out though, but it will definitely be close.

If Texas wins, they will not be overrated in my mind and will deserve to be #1 in the nation. However, when they lose, they better drop out of the BCS chase and Tech better go to #1. Either way, it will be one of the best games this year.

Clearly the 2 big games today are
Georgia and Florida in Jacksonville
and Texas at Texas Tech

Both games have teams with high powered offenses

It should be fun
I like the Dawgs' chances, but you never know in these games
I hope the officials don't ticky-tack them to death over last year

I think the Gators are still holding a grudge from UGA team coming out on the field last year. I think they will remember that and all of their jean shorts wearing fans will go home enjoying a close win today.

Vegas has UGA as 5.5 pt underdogs....think that's a little much

They had 3 and a half quarters for revenge last year and couldn't hang

I think it will be a motivation initially, but once the game gets underway I think all of that will fade. It only becomes an issue if the Gators spank the Dawgs. Then everyone will say "see, told you so" but if the Dawgs win or if it is close, then it is a non issue in everyone's mind.

Edit: love the pic BTW

Your game today will be interesting... both programs trying to re-establish themselves

Dawgs won't be able to beat the Gators AND the officials in this one

The personal foul on the interception was questionable, but Tebow's knee was clearly down short of the first down and they blatantly upheld the spot on the review. No excuse for that.
