I don't know why they have Bama at 2 and Penn State at three? Penn State had a much better win then Bama did on the road vs at home. I blame it all on OSU

Why are you blaming OSU? They don't play each other until this saturday in primetime. BTW OSU is going to destroy Penn State now they are getting it on again! Here we come Big Ten Championship!!!

What are you talking about, he will be the coach of Penn State until the day he dies!

I'd like to see Paterno go out on top. At 82, how much can he really be running the show? I think it's great to see an old standard like Penn State doing well.

Not sure who has seen this clip yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=do-J6nAmus8&feature=related The USC QB gets nailed by the umpire.

The collision between South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia and umpire Wilbur Hackett Jr. in Saturday's loss to LSU has drawn a lot of attention over the past two days, but Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier says Hackett did nothing wrong.

Hackett, a former linebacker at the University of Kentucky from 1967-70, ended up making contact with Garcia after the Gamecocks' QB rolled to his left and headed for the end zone in the second quarter. Hackett and Garcia collided at the 5-yard line as the LSU defense closed in.

"He was trying to get out of the way," Spurrier said of Hackett, according to The State in Columbia, S.C. "Stephen sort of cut back right into him. Sometimes that will happen."

When contacted by ESPN's Joe Schad, the Southeastern Conference office said after reviewing the play, it believes the umpire was in appropriate position. A spokesman said the umpire raised his arm to defend himself after a change of direction by the runner.

I'm pretty happy with Utah and Boise State at 11 and 12 respectively. I think Utah will have a pretty tough job against TCU, and then BYU will definitely want redemption.

My only concern now is that with TCU's giant leap in to the rankings, if they beat Utah they might leapfrog Boise State.

I think Utah's going to run the table this year. I'm sure nobody saw the game on Saturday since it's only carried on the Mtn network or Versus (can't remember which) but Utah handled Colorado State. Not that Colorado State is a tough opponent but they hung in there with TCU. Utah has a strong pattern of finishing the season strong, the offense looked stellar against Colorado State and the Defense is rock solid. I just don't see Utah losing any more games. I could be wrong of course but I don't think I am.

The Utes should lodge themselves firmly in the top 10 before the season ends with a win against both TCU and BYU who are both BCS ranked. I think were on our way to the Fiesta Bowl again.

But what happens if both Utah and Boise State go undefeated this season? Do they both go to the BCS, or will they leave Boise State out of it?

Classic! It looks like he really went at him instead of trying to defend himself... lowered his shoulder and nailed him!

Thank god that wasn't Hochuli. He would have taken the guy's head off with those arms but would have blown the whistle too quickly so the guy's head wouldn't be ruled a fumble.

^^^ All kinds of messed up!

I am calling Texas Tech to win against Kansas on Saturday. How big of a margin will depend on if they played like they did second half against TAMU or if they play like they did in the first half.

Other Big 12 matchups

Texas over OSU
OU over KSU
Nebraska over Baylor
Missouri over Colorado
TAMU over Iowa St

I am most interested in the Texas game, mainly to see if the Texas secondary is still as weak as they looked during the OU game. If they have not improved then next weeks game against Texas Tech will be very interesting. Strong Passing vs young Secondary and maybe another #1 school will fall.

remember Texas Tech is a wild card and fairly unpredictable. They could easily take the Big 12 champion ship this year. It really is going to come down to the Texas game.

Last time Texas was in Lubbock they only won because Tech blew the game in the last 1/2 because they had it lock after the first 1/2.

Either way big 12 south this year is just insane with 4 out of the 6 teams all ranked in the top 10.

espn is so in love with usc. they talk about their two impressive wins against slack 10 teams (washington st. is a joke, they might as well be 1-aa) as if usc is destroying sec quality teams. their schedule is too soft, i don't think they should be so high in the bcs rankings. in fact, if they didn't dominate in those last two games, i would argue dropping them 1 or 2 spots for playing around with inferior opponents. plus, espn recommended that they should play for the national championship. sorry usc, not this year, better hope a bunch of other teams lose, and i don't think they are the best 1-loss team (that's uga).

anyway, lsu and uga saturday. loser of this game is likely done for the national championship race, and it's bigger for lsu as they need to win to stay in the sec race. lsu is rebuilding, so i'm not expecting a national championship from them.

Friggin' Texas Tech. Their school is fun and their women are hot, but the football team drives me nuts. That crazy offense of theirs makes the team completely unpredictable, and they'll beat a #1 team one week and get beat by a high school team the next.

We call them the cockroaches. They don't really ever do anything on their own, such as win a conference or national title, but they're very good at ruining someone else's season. It's led to the phrase, "Man, we had a great season up until we got roached by Tech."

Sigh...I just hope we don't get roached this year. :)

But what happens if both Utah and Boise State go undefeated this season? Do they both go to the BCS, or will they leave Boise State out of it?

Technically two non-BCS teams can make it to the BCS. The higher ranked team has an automatic berth whereas the lower team has to be selected to play. So it is possible, but it's not very likely.

BCSfootball.org said:
3. The champion of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, or the Western Athletic Conference will earn an automatic berth in a BCS bowl game if either:

A. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or,
B. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls.

No more than one such team from Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, and the Western Athletic Conference shall earn an automatic berth in any year. If two or more teams from those conferences satisfy the provisions for an automatic berth, then the team with the highest finish in the final BCS Standings will receive the automatic berth, and the remaining team or teams will be in the pool of teams eligible for selection by the bowls as at-large teams.

It will be very interesting to see if both Utah and BSU finish the season with top 10 BCS rankings only to have one of them lose out to an ACC or Big East school.

Of course there's plenty of football to be played yet. Boise has to get past San Jose this Friday, and San Jose has always played us unusually tough at their house.

Go Broncos! :D

espn is so in love with usc.

We want to play in big games and we don't disappoint once we get there.

their schedule is too soft, i don't think they should be so high in the bcs rankings.

So if Kobe Bryant were playing a bunch of high schoolers, he would drop from being among the world's best basketball players? Didn't think so...

The main reason strength of schedule is so important is that it weeds out the imitators. The Hawaii's, those people. The people who don't already have their talent proven and their reputation solidified. To go along with my analogy: It's like a grown man dropping 60 points playing against high school basketball teams. Is he really as good as Kobe, or is it only because his schedule is easy? It hasn't been established yet...

plus, espn recommended that they should play for the national championship.

Absolutely we should at this rate. We will get in over any other one loss team because of several reasons.

-We have the most talented players in the nation. Here's a hint: Our free safety runs a faster 40 than Darren McFadden. Our running backs? Joe McKnight, Stafon Johnson, Broderick Green, CJ Gable. They would be starters on 90% of the teams out there. Our receivers are really starting to kick it up this year. Pair this offensive weaponry with the number 1 defense in the nation, bring it on.
-We are electrifying to watch (I've never met a 4th down situation Pete didn't like to go for it on)
-We flat out perform in big games (5-1 in BCS bowl games)
-We have a ton of fans who tune in to watch us win, and a ton of haters who tune in hoping to see us lose

Keep hating people. We like to hear it out here.

Time I can think that did that was a few years ago. They had a great season doing some major damage to high ranked teams but loose to OSU in sweetwater. It was OSU only Conference win that year. But you have to understand when it comes to OSU and Texas Tech the winner is who ever plays at home. It insane how true it is.

I also goign to assume you did not go to Texas Tech and went/ go to OU or UT. My personal guess is OU since they ruined it for OU last year. That was a great game followed by the students rushing the field.

This is why I love the Big 12. Just about any team can beat any other team during the year. At least in 2 weeks we will not have 3 undefeated teams in the south. UT vs OSU followed by TTU vs UT will be great games to watch! :)

You're incorrect, TCU has the #1 ranked defense in the nation.

But USC seems like a descent team, too bad the Pac has been rolled by the Mountain West Conference this year, though I would have liked to see USC play a MWC team this year. Like you said, at this point we just don't really know if USC us up to snuff since they really haven't played anyone of any sort of quality thus far. And they did lose to Oregon State, which my Utes got by the following week. The one common opponent our teams shared resulted in a loss for USC and a win for University of Utah.

Yeah - I'm a Texas grad. I have a lot of good memories of driving up to Lubbock to party before a game. :)

We allow fewer PPG. We held Ohio State to 3 points. We'll probably also have 8 guys from our defense starting in the NFL quite soon.

Like you said, at this point we just don't really know if USC us up to snuff since they really haven't played anyone of any sort of quality thus far.

No no no. We don't know if the Utes are up to snuff since they haven't played anyone of any sort of quality thus far. Like I said, Kobe Bryant playing against high schoolers is still Kobe. People know who we have and how we play. We are proven, whether or not the rest of our conference is playing well. It's you guys who have something to prove.

By the way, the AP predictions for the BCS bowls came out. National title game predictions from the AP? USC vs. Texas. The rematch. Objectively, 2005 was one of the best title games in the history of college football. Subjectively, we're looking for revenge and we'd like nothing more. You see, we don't shy away from big games. Remember Les Miles talking all that trash last year about USC? We offered him a two game contract home and home (at LSU and USC in consecutive years). Of course, he was scared. Any time, anywhere people.

Surely you're not suggesting Utah would beat us by the all-mythical transitive property? That's really not the way it works in sports, and to suggest that Utah is up at the level USC is at is a little bit insulting.

There are two leagues.

USC, Texas, Penn State, Georgia, and Alabama. And then everyone else.

well I will be blunt. I hope and expect Texas Tech kick UT's ass on Nov 1st. I do want them to ruined UT chances because that means Tech is one step closer to being the Big 12 champion.

That and I just like to see the Raiders win.

Go Tech.

I've gotta admit I'm getting sick of everyone in CA acting like the USC is almighty. Yeah you didn't show up against Oregon State, but you toppled mighty Ohio State

I'm sorry, but I've got no respect for a conference where an opponent is beaten by 69 points and besides mighty OSU, USC hasn't played anyone.

And after losing to this now 4-3 team, you are still ranked number 5. C'mon there are too many blowhards in LA with a vote in the polls, which have an effect on the Bullsh*t Championship Series.

Right on! It'll certainly be a great game. :D
