2008/9 COLLEGE Football Thread

I don't understand why that play impressed you SEC people. C'mon guys, our fullback and tight end hurdles tacklers all the time.

Don't confuse me for an SEC guy. My team plays in the ACC. While you will see me take the SEC's side, that's only when someone says that another conference is superior to them.

....and for my previous quote, I was being sarcastic about the jump. You don't have to jump over them if you can just stiff arm them to the ground or truck through them. That's what Dwyer does and I was just trying to get MacDawg a lil heated.

Also this weekend is the greatest rivalry game in the history of college football.. THE 2008 APPLE CUP!

0-10 Washington vs. 1-10 Washington State featuring the co-118th scoring offenses in the country and not a single win over a Division 1A team between them.

Wow, there is going to be 21-22 losses just between those two teams. That's incredible.

Wouldn't be the first time a Big XII team that didn't win the conference played for the BCS title.

01 nebraska and 03 oklahoma come to mind

Which was my whole point in bringing it up

The Dawgs were denied last year after being next in line for the BCS when LSU jumped them.... and the only argument given was "they didn't win their conference"

This year... it doesn't appear that would be an issue if putting a Big 12 team or USC in there

Woof, Woof – Dawg

while i am a huge nebraska fan, 2001 was bad. i remember watching that game against CU and was in shock. i believe it was 65-28 or something like that. They simply couldnt stop them. Yet, CU finished 3rd in the BCS by a FRACTION behind nebraska

imo, CU should have played Miami that year. instead, nebraska got humiliated by them (which is bad as Eric Crouch in my mind is the best quaterback i have ever seen as a collegiate)

OU was a little different as kstate didnt end up 3rd in the bcs

Oregon who was #2 in the human polls and beat the stuffing out of Colorado in the Fiesta bowl should have played Miami that year.

lol i forgot about oregon that year. just more reason why the bcs as it is now needs to go

explain how we have a bcs to SOLVE co-national champions as a result of Michigan and Neb in 97 and yet even with the BCS we had LSU and USC share it in 04

that completely defeted the purpose of the bcs right there. thats all the evidence you need

not to mention that year Auburn got snubbed going undefeated

Holy Sh*t.. have seen the a$$ whipping TT is taking right now....... This is great!!!!!!!!!

the game is making me sick. That is not how TT plays. They are having a MAJOR off game.

Well UT can offically kiss any hope of a Big 12 Champain game or a BSC title. TT is still in the running. it all depends on if OU loses to OSU.

This is insane. I stopped really watching halfway through the second quarter when it was 28-0.

Oklahoma puts up 35 points in the second quarter alone! Are you kidding me??

I have to say, the Big 12 deserves three teams in the BCS this year.

EDIT:

Mercy, it just keeps getting worse for TT.

I guess Big Game Bob is finally back. We'll see for how long.

I just do not respect OU that much. They are the example of poor sports this year. They have a game in the pocket and they keep pounding on points.

In my opinion (which is shared by others) there fans are poor sports and horrible to deal with. The team just loves to keep putting points on the board no matter how much they are winning buy. They never pull first string off instead they just put all the points they can...

But I agree it the Big 12 south deserves to have TT, UT and OU all in a BSC bowl game. Those 3 teams clearly belong in the top 5. Personally I think the top 5 teams have been set for a while and really all 5 teams in the top 5 belong in the BCS.

I feel sorry for a lot of the bowl games this year are going to suck with the Big 12 games are going to suck this year because they are just going to be so one sided since all 4 big 12 south teams going to the bowls are just among arguably in the top 10 and they are gong to be playing schools no where near their level.

OU needs to blow out TT when they are still behind UT in the rankings. you cant have a close game if OU wants to jump UT

the score matters and im all for OU pouring it on

Rodius, while I completely agree with you in that scores don't need to be ran up, Tech has run up quite a few scores this season as well. ;)

Bradford has finally come out, but I'm sure he's probably the only one.

Definitely play hard, but run the ball. Don't pass or onside kick (Utah over Wyoming last year) when you are in complete control of a game.

...

Well shoot. That wasn't how the game was supposed to work. Oh well, typical tech I guess :D

GO OSU NEXT WEEK!!!!

and you want to explain all the other games they behaved like this.

OU is the poorest sportman ship in the big 12.

I can't comment on their past history of running up the score, but I loved what they did to TT......

On another note... Hell look what the Gators did...... Boy I hope my boys down in Alabama are getting ready............. I hope to god they beat Auburn first.................

What is this, football in the pee wee league of the poor? Poor sportsmanship? What, everyone has to go home with a smile on their face, a trophy, and their mommies telling them they are special? This is D1 football. If a team doesn't like having points scored against them, then play some freaking D and stop them! When you have subjective human polls deciding the fates of teams like OU, then I have no problem with such teams scoring as many points as the other teams allows.

I don't know that you have even watched all of their games. The majority of points were scored in the first half. What, you want them to start taking a knee then? Even when they switched to mainly running the ball in the second half, teams couldn't stop them. What about Texas? What about Florida? They all have had equally lopsided wins.

the 3 touch downs in the 3rd seem to say other wise. they had the game locked up in the 1st half.

I seen tech at that point pull first string and run 2nd unless the other teams scores. Then first string goes back on the field to score a touch down then it is back to 2nd string.

My problem with OU is it is fine for a win here and there but look at all of OU games. Almost every single one of there games is like that.

I though it was pour of Tech in years past where they ran up the score against other teams. I though it was said when tech put 70 points on the board 2 games in a row against teams that put less than 10 on the board.

But year in and out OU is by far the worse. There fans cross some lines every time they came to Lubbock. Of the big 12 schools I will flat out admit I dislike OU the most. I honestly can not stand them.

I'm surprised Texas Tech dropped as far as they did.

I honestly expected three spots at most...

AP Top 25
1. Alabama (63) 11-0 1,622
2. Florida (2) 10-1 1,512
3. Oklahoma 10-1 1,486
4. Texas 10-1 1,482
5. USC 9-1 1,352
6. Penn State 11-1 1,238
7. Texas Tech 10-1 1,212
8. Utah 12-0 1,206
9. Boise State 11-0 1,064
10. Ohio State 10-2 1,043
11. Oklahoma State 9-2 997
12. Missouri 9-2 917
13. Georgia 9-2 874
14. TCU 10-2 750
15. Ball State 11-0 731

Sorry....but I've never been one to buy into the "running up the score" argument. These players spend all week getting ready for this big game and shouldn't have to roll over and play dead after they get a big lead.

Remember, it's not their fault the other team didn't show up.

I'm surprised that's all they fell. Sure it was a highly ranked team they played, but they were flat out embarrassed last night.
