several of those being national championships.

That would be 2 NC games... several = 2??
And USC is 1 and 1 in those

1 National Championship in the BCS era, the last 10 years (since 1998)
USC won the BCS in... 2004

USC has been in "BCS games" seven straight years because USC plays in the Pac 1
Win the Pac 1 every year (and they should) and they play in the Rose

Who is the competition in the Pac 1? Cal? Oregon? Oregon State?
Puh-leaze

Top to bottom, the SEC and Big 12 have the strongest conferences
Since 1998 the BCS National Champs have come from:

SEC - 4 (Tennessee, Florida, LSU twice)
Big 12 - 2 (Texas, Oklahoma)
ACC - 1 (Florida State)
Big East - 1 (Miami)
Big 10 - 1 (Ohio State)
Pac 10 - 1 (USC)

This year will add to either the SEC or Big 12 totals

BCS losers...

SEC - 0 (hmmmm... 4 winners)
Big 12 - 3 (Nebraska, Oklahoma twice)
ACC - 2 (Florida State twice)
Big East - 2 (Virginia Tech, Miami)
Big 10 - 2 (Ohio State twice)
Pac 10 - 1 (USC)

The ONLY BCS NC games for the Pac 1 are the 2 USC played

Every other conference including the Big East and ACC have made the big game more than the Pac 1
The SEC has had 3 different teams, the Big 12 has had 3 different teams
The Big East had 2 different teams (both in the ACC now)
The ACC has had 3 (Florida State and the 2 former Big East, so 3)
The Big 10 = Ohio State and the Pac 1 = USC

Which conferences are more balanced and have more competition??
No wonder many people believe that USC and Ohio State get more love than they deserve

USC has a good team Badandy but you continually overstate your case
USC SHOULD win the Pac 1 every year and play in a BCS Bowl
USC SHOULD go undefeated every year... but they don't
USC finds a way to squander its talent and position

Hawaii lays another Bowl egg... losing 49-21 to an awful Notre Dame team

Looks like the WAC is 0-3 in bowls already this year ;)

MWC is 2-1 with Utah and Air Force left to play

The difference is that unlike Ohio St., USC has dominated the SEC during this stretch, going 4-0 against the SEC under Carroll. Also, since 2000, the Pac-10 has a winning record against the SEC.

SC does have 2 titles since the AP never agreed to be bound to the BCS like the coaches did, meaning that a split national title was a possiblity and everyone knew it.

The SEC gets overrated every year by playing weak non-conference schedules, boosting their rankings early in the year and causing their wins to look better than they are when they get in conference. Look at Auburn this year as an example. When these teams actually travel and play the Pac-10, they lose. Pretty simple. If you want to claim to be so dominant, don't have a losing record to the Pac-10.

The common "SEC is amazing" narrative is what is keeping USC out of title games such as the past 2 years. Florida's loss to Ole Miss has been glossed over, even though Oregon St and Ole Miss are basically equal in the rankings and both teams have the same number of wins over ranked teams.

Beating OSU and OU in title games simply is not that impressive. Once the SEC finally is given USC in a big game, that record will come to an end.

.............If you want to claim to be so dominant, don't have a losing record to the Pac-10........................

And if the Pac 10 wants to claim to be so dominant, they shouldn't have a losing record (6 and 1) to the Mountain West! :D

Sorry, I just couldn't help but throw that in there.

This would matter if the BCS wasn't around, like in the good old days. However, the BCS was invented (flawed as it is) to put #1 and #2 in a game to decide the National title. That year LSU and OU were #1, #2. They played and LSU won. USC didn't even play in the game.

Sorry, no one cares that a bunch biased AP writers voted USC national champion. USC did NOT win the title that matters, the BCS. For that they only have one and anything else is especially mythical.

Yes, but back in the good old days (which I agree were good), there was an AP poll and a Coaches' poll (it was UPI for a time, then I think it went to USA Today), and they could indeed each select a different National Champion. At the time, pre-BCS, each poll seemed to carry pretty much equal weight; in the event of a split championship (such as Georgia Tech/Colorado in 1990 and Washington/Miami in 1991) both teams were called "National Champions" without much of a "yeah, but they won (Championship A), which isn't as good as winning (Championship B)."

I agree that since it's the BCS coalition that selects the two teams to play for its championship, it seems to carry more significance (at least to me) than the AP poll. And since the AP no longer wishes to be a factor in selecting the two teams to play (I remember hearing, "We'd rather report the news than make the news."), then perhaps their championship shouldn't carry the same significance.

I haven't had internet for the past week, and I'm only now mooching off of someone's wifi.. heh..

Well, I haven't read the last few pages of posts but I wanted to comment anyway. Last Tuesday was a horrible night, but only partially because Boise State lost. It was mainly due to the fact that I missed the first half of the game because the contracted Direct TV installers are complete morons and took FIVE hours to install my Direct TV at the new house.

I was looking forward to this game for weeks, and then I miss the only half that my team played in. Absolutely horrible night.

Anyway, Boise State had PLENTY of chances. Missed field goal anyone? So aggravating.

But the good thing is that Boise State is so young. Next year is going to be another stellar year.

I hope everyone that celebrates had a great Christmas, and I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Calm before the storm... the clock is ticking on the BCS Bowls

Fears of a looming rookie wage scale are unfounded...

Link to full story

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says fears of a looming rookie wage scale are unfounded and collegiate underclassmen should not be misled into thinking such a system will be in place by 2010 as they weigh their decisions to forgo their eligibility to enter the NFL next year.

Good news for Dawg fans...
maybe we keep Stafford and Moreno for another season ;)

Read it here

How's this going to effect the game? I've been very impressed with Alabama's offensive line this year and this could hurt.

P-Worm

They are very strong on both sides of the line
It will hurt, no question, but I think they have the depth to hold up

Edit: Another ACC loss and Big East win... NCState falls to Rutgers

Edit2: A Big 12 win and another Big 10 loss... Missouri over Northwestern in OT

Anyone watching the Holiday Bowl?

It's still in the third quarter and is a really good game. The OK State QB just got HAMMERED. It looked like he got bent in two sideways. He popped up pretty quick, but you could see him wincing.

On the other side, Oregon's QB rocked an OK State safety and scampered in for a TD. Pretty awesome to see a QB do that. Heh.

I've always liked the Holiday Bowl. It seems to consistently be a good game. I'm banned from going by other Texas fans, though. I seem to be a bad luck charm. Texas is 0-8 on neutral sites when I'm at the game. Two of the losses were at the Holiday - once against Oregon, and then again against WSU. :(

Big 10!

There is a lot of Big 10 bashing going on here. Most of it is about Ohio State, but I'll address that over this weekend before the Fiesta Bowl. Tomorrow is the Rose Bowl and Penn State is going to take on USC. This was suppose to be Penn State's year. Their one loss this year was a fluke to Iowa by a last minute field goal which put Iowa over the top by just a point! USC's loss was to an Oregon State team that Penn State beat by a large margin just the week before. What I'm saying is that these are both strong teams and it will be a fight. I got to go with the Penn State "upset", 20-17!

people fail to realize penn state pretty much always does well in bowl games, we aren't like the rest of the big ten :D

those are my predictions...
psu vs usc - psu by 3
osu vs texas - osu by 7
michigan st vs georgia - michigan st by 10
iowa vs s. carolina - iowa by 14
florida vs oklahoma - florida by 20
bama vs utah - bama by 30

texas won't be able to handle ohio states defense, or pryor, or wells. wells will rush for over 140 with 2td's and pryor will rush for over 50 with a rushing and passing td.

michigan state has to make sure ringer has a good game.

iowa is a good team, their 4losses came by 12 points. they have a solid defense and the best running back in the country

floria...well its florida and oklahoma has never seen a defense like this. and tebow will be able to throw all over a big12 defense

bama vs utah...obviously utah has no chance.

Top 25 defenses:
ACC - 6
Big 12 - 0
Big 10 - 3
Big East - 3
SEC - 5
Pac 10 - 3

just sayin...

Texas is 20th in total defense. So at least one Big-12 school is in the Top 25. ;)

We're also 2nd in the nation in rushing defense. We'll see how well OSU runs against it.

Around here in Buckeye nation, there is talk about Ohio State having both Pryor and Boeckman on the field against Texas at the same time. It will be interesting to see if Ohio State goes through with this and if they do, then how it would affect the game.

It'll be an interesting game. I'm looking forward to it! We haven't played a team like the Buckeyes all year long.

those are my predictions...
psu vs usc - psu by 3 should be a good game and could go either way
osu vs texas - osu by 7 don't think osu can hang with texas
michigan st vs georgia - michigan st by 10 ha, ha... not even
iowa vs s. carolina - iowa by 14 who cares... really
florida vs oklahoma - florida by 20 not a chance in hades
bama vs utah - bama by 30 alabama won't even score 30, but will win the game ;)

texas won't be able to handle ohio states defense, or pryor, or wells. wells will rush for over 140 with 2td's and pryor will rush for over 50 with a rushing and passing td. dream on.... the texas offense will keep osu off the field

michigan state has to make sure ringer has a good game. uga's defense is not good... but their offense is... msu will have no answer for stafford and moreno... or their receivers

iowa is a good team, their 4 losses came by 12 points. they have a solid defense and the best running back in the country again, who cares... bueller, bueller??

florida...well its florida and oklahoma has never seen a defense like this. and tebow will be able to throw all over a big12 defense florida's defense... ha,ha... they haven't seen an offense like ou... and tebow doesn't throw all that well in the best of circumstances... he is a fullback playing qb

Big 10 bashing?
They are currently 0-2 in the bowls
Wisconsin was drilled by Florida State
Northwestern bows out to Missouri

OK Mountain West guys... 2-2
And WAC guys... 1-4
Badandy's weak Pac 10 is 3-0 ;)

The SEC doesn't play their first game till tonight...
they play the later bowls... the better ones ;)

LSU should fall to a pretty good Ga. Tech team tonight
