Because the Dodgers didn't have to bat in the ninth, the game doesn't qualify as a no-hitter. It was only the fifth such game since 1900, and first since Boston's Matt Young in 1992, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

I understand the rule, but it still doesn't make sense. If the Dodgers were the road team and batted first the no hitter would still count even if they won the game. Because they were the home team they didn't have to bat in the bottom of the 9th.

And they say the Yankees clubhouse is dysfunctional.
Manny Ramirez said he patched things up with a Boston Red Sox employee he reportedly shoved to the ground during an argument, and the club said the matter is over.

The Providence Journal reported Monday that Ramirez pushed traveling secretary Jack McCormick in the visitors' clubhouse Saturday in Houston after McCormick told Ramirez that he might not be able to come up with the 16 tickets the player requested for that night's game.

The two met behind closed doors, the newspaper said, and Ramirez apologized to McCormick.

"Whatever happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse," Ramirez said before Monday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. "I talked to him and everything is fine. He's going to continue being my friend. It's over with."

Manager Terry Francona said the matter was handled internally, and Ramirez was in the lineup Monday night, batting in his customary cleanup spot.

"When things happen with us, we take things really seriously and hopefully we deal with things respectfully to all parties. But we also do it internally," Francona said.

"That's not trying to evade a question, it's telling you how we feel about it. This is something that actually happened between friends, and it was handled."

Asked if he considered the incident closed, the manager did not use that word.

"I've already talked with every one I need to, like we always do. ... It's been dealt with, if that's what you're asking," Francona said.

Teammate David Ortiz agreed with Ramirez's assessment that what goes on in the clubhouse should stay there.

"That's something that I don't want to get involved with. I wasn't here when it happened," Ortiz said. "We are a family. We deal with things. We have a good team with good chemistry."

Monday night's game between Boston and Tampa Bay was first between the AL East rivals since a benches-clearing brawl at Fenway Park on June 5. That same night TV cameras showed Ramirez and teammate Kevin Youkilis being separated after exchanging words in the dugout at the end of an inning.

The following day Ramirez declared the brief spat "in the past."

Manny being Manny or is he just an ass?

Manny is no different than Ted Williams, Yaz, and lots of others from the past. When you put up the numbers, you have some wiggle room..
But back then we didn't have ESPN and every other news channel watching their every step and reporting it..And the Red Sox coddling (or having a different set of rules) for their superstar(s) is nothing new either..There have been A holes playing since the days of Ty Cobb..

Manny probably is an ass. I bet most pro athletes are. A great deal of them have been molly coddled since the first time someone noticed they could play. Sad really. And nowadays you can't hide that stuff(bullying incidents and what not) like you used to. And for the record Ty Cobb is only the first known ass. I'm sure there were some before him. ;)

i'm getting very close to declaring the rays my al team here, especially since my braves stink, padres are in dead last and the rangers have been in the toilet for years and i pretty much forgot about them. i've been following the rays since 2004 when i first got to florida and i've grown to love them. they are easy to like and have a core that will bring them some good years to come. it's like 1991 all over again.

I can't believe that the Mess are only 3.5 back in the NL East right now. In the last 10 games every one of the teams in our division has a 4-6 record except for the division leading Phillies... who have a 2-8 record.

At least we all suck?

braves stink. plain and simple. we lose 8-3.

meanwhile, the rays...wow. another win against the red sox. i see them in the playoffs...this is probably going to be the first time i enjoy them in some time, especially since my teams have a habit of losing in round one.

Teh Don, I'm glad that you get to go since it is something you're interested in... but am I the only one who has never had any interest whatsoever in the All-Star game?

Alas, I'm really not a fan of the ASG. I'm just going for the historic value.

I'll give you that. If the game were in Tampa I'd probably go too for the same reason. Even with my above post, I'm a bit jealous that you get to go. :)

Anyone going to Sunday night's BoSox/Yankees game or Tuesday's Mets/Giants?

Thank you. I'm pretty amped about it. Getting home, not so much.
