Correction, without Manny and Ortiz healthy, the Red Sox are not making the playoffs. I dare you to make that pink hat comment to my cousins that have been following the team for 60 plus years and get their response. Manny is a great hitter yes, but he is also a cancer to the team. I bet you the rest of the clubhouse is not happy with it either. They will not say it publicly but I bet they are not amused by his antics. There is no "I" in team and all Manny is about is himself at this point.Tell them they should be Yankees fans instead then.
He had an MRI, not an x-ray. And many times an MRI won't show tendinitis.
All these Red Sox "fans" who are pissed at Manny need to shut the **** up or put their pink hats away. There is no ****ing way that the Sox will even make the playoffs without Manny, because there's no way to replace his production in the lineup without giving up the farm.
He's also 2nd on the team in games played (Pedey is 1st), so it's not like he's tanking it..

Dodgers acquire Blake from Indians
LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers landed the bat they've been seeking on Saturday, acquiring Cleveland Indians infielder Casey Blake for Triple-A pitcher Jon Meloan and Class A catcher Carlos Santana. Blake, a free agent after this year, has a salary of $6.1 million, and the Indians will pay all of what remains.
Blake's name surfaced earlier this year when the Dodgers were in talks with the Indians to acquire left-handed pitcher CC Sabathia.
The Dodgers have been looking for a veteran bat at either shortstop, because of the back injury to Rafael Furcal, or at third base, which has been handled this year by rookies Andy LaRoche and Blake DeWitt, whose offense has tailed off badly since June.

Well said. Manny is a cancer, and will be until he grows up and/or gets over himself. His offense comes at a cost, and at some point that cost will be too much, to both the team and the fans.
I don't know much about this player. Any Cleveland fans out there who can give me the heads up on Blake?
From what I saw last year in the ALCS, he's pretty good. He's got a little bit of power, probably around 20HR a year (currently at 11). .289 with a .830 OPS is not jaw-dropping, but it's definitely solid.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=mlb_trade_deadlineL.A. teams a good fit for Teixeira

The market for Mark Teixeira seems to be slowly heating up. The two L.A. clubs have shown the strongest interest, although Boston and Tampa Bay are waiting in the wings.
Arizona is a "highly unlikely" destination, according to one source. Teixeira is an ideal fit for the Angels, who are getting no production from their DH spot this year (except when Vlad Guerrero is in it, which means they get no production from right field).
The fit for the Dodgers is less obvious because a trade would either include James Loney or push him to the bench. Teixeira has been as good or better in the second half of every season he has played in the majors since his first season in 2003, and he has a career second-half OPS of .943.
To the extent that a "second-half player" exists, Teixeira would be it. And there's no doubt that he'll command two draft picks -- probably a late first-round pick and a sandwich pick -- when he leaves as a free agent this offseason.

Now that the Dodgers have dealt for a bat, they'll also now turn their attention to pitching. Among names they're believed to be still pursuing: Colorado's Brian Fuentes, Baltimore's George Sherrill, Cincinnati's David Weathers and Oakland's Alan Embree. They're not believed to be interested in Oakland closer Huston Street.
Another possibility could be trading for Greg Maddux, who has told San Diego he would only waive his no-trade clause to accept a deal to L.A. The Dodgers could then move one of their current starters to the bullpen.
Red Sox In Trade Talks For Juan Uribe
By Tim Dierkes [July 23, 2008 at 8:02pm CST]
According to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com, the Red Sox are "deep in conversations" for White Sox infielder Juan Uribe. Knobler says the return is unclear but the White Sox want to shed Uribe's salary. Uribe has about $1.7MM left on his contract this year.
Uribe's White Sox career has been on life support several times this year, but he's managed to stick around. With Joe Crede's back ailing, Uribe is currently filling in at third base.

By Nat Boyle [July 27 at 12:44pm CST]
Should the Jarrod Washburn deal fall apart, the Yankees are exploring an alternative in Brian Bannister for Melky Cabrera. Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star writes,
"Nothing appears imminent, but the framework for a deal seems to exist because New York has already shown a willingness to part with [Melky] Cabrera. Add this: The Royals nearly obtained Cabrera in a trade-deadline swap two years ago for veteran outfielder Reggie Sanders before Sanders suffered an injury."
In this scenario, David Dejesus moves to left to make room for Cabrera in center. And Mark Teahen would get back to his natural position at first base. Cabrera is making $461,200, only $40,200 more than Bannister, and both are set to reach arbitration after this season.
The Yanks prefer Washburn but are in negotiations after the Mariners rejected an offer of Cabrera and Kei Igawa for the lefty veteran. Seattle might want Brett Gardner as well as for the Yankees to take on all of Washburn's $14MM contract through next year.

I think you are giving Manny to much credit. The fact is without Ortiz the Red Sox would not have won those games. They pitch around Ortiz and face Manny. I think he is bad for the team. He is not classy and is pulling the team apart from the inside out. We don't know what goes on in the clubhouse but Im sure the talk there is that Manny needs to grow up.'Cancer' implies he's somehow bad for the team and making the team worse as a whole. This just isn't true. The Red Sox wouldn't have won either of those two championships without Manny. This stuff gets blown way out of proportion.

didn't you just completely contradict yourself here?I think you are giving Manny to much credit.

I'm scratching my head to that one too.Why the hell did the Yankees sign Richie Sexson?![]()
