I really love the "Trade Manny NOW!" crowd. It's hilarious.

Tell them they should be Yankees fans instead then.

He had an MRI, not an x-ray. And many times an MRI won't show tendinitis.

All these Red Sox "fans" who are pissed at Manny need to shut the **** up or put their pink hats away. There is no ****ing way that the Sox will even make the playoffs without Manny, because there's no way to replace his production in the lineup without giving up the farm.

He's also 2nd on the team in games played (Pedey is 1st), so it's not like he's tanking it..
Correction, without Manny and Ortiz healthy, the Red Sox are not making the playoffs. I dare you to make that pink hat comment to my cousins that have been following the team for 60 plus years and get their response. Manny is a great hitter yes, but he is also a cancer to the team. I bet you the rest of the clubhouse is not happy with it either. They will not say it publicly but I bet they are not amused by his antics. There is no "I" in team and all Manny is about is himself at this point.

Well said. Manny is a cancer, and will be until he grows up and/or gets over himself. His offense comes at a cost, and at some point that cost will be too much, to both the team and the fans.

Dodgers acquire Blake from Indians

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers landed the bat they've been seeking on Saturday, acquiring Cleveland Indians infielder Casey Blake for Triple-A pitcher Jon Meloan and Class A catcher Carlos Santana. Blake, a free agent after this year, has a salary of $6.1 million, and the Indians will pay all of what remains.

Blake's name surfaced earlier this year when the Dodgers were in talks with the Indians to acquire left-handed pitcher CC Sabathia.

The Dodgers have been looking for a veteran bat at either shortstop, because of the back injury to Rafael Furcal, or at third base, which has been handled this year by rookies Andy LaRoche and Blake DeWitt, whose offense has tailed off badly since June.

I don't know much about this player. Any Cleveland fans out there who can give me the heads up on Blake?

Maybe, but right now the worse cancer on the team is the bottom 3rd of the order, who are pretty much guaranteed outs.

I'll take Manny with his little quirks and occasionally acting retarded if he's putting up .300/30hr/100rbi with a .932 OPS and the 3rd highest WPA in all of MLB.

The only thing that pissed me off that he did was when he had the altercation with Jack McCormick. The Youk incident was nothing.. if it would have happened in the clubhouse instead of the dugout, it wouldn't have mattered at all.

He didn't "leave the bat on his shoulders and completely give up" in that at-bat against Rivera... that was one hall of famer fooling another hall of famer on 3 nasty pitches. He didn't fake an injury to get a couple days off... that's complete ********.

The worst thing the Red Sox could do right now would be to get rid of him. That's just going to make the team way worse.

Like I said, the real cancer on the team is bottom 3 and also the bullpen.

Tek in the last month: .156/.247/.219
Coco: .147/.310/.147
Ellsbury: .222/.260/.273
Lugo: .237/.302/.237

Just for comparison: Ramirez .364/.506/.621 1.127 OPS

The front office had this same "i'm sick of this player" ******** before they got rid of Nomar and Pedro.

From what I saw last year in the ALCS, he's pretty good. He's got a little bit of power, probably around 20HR a year (currently at 11). .289 with a .830 OPS is not jaw-dropping, but it's definitely solid.

Thanks, I'm also wondering about his defensive skills. I assume he's at least competent or the Dodgers would not have wanted him. I was also kind of surprised that the Indians were willing to cover the balance of his salary for the year. Makes it look like they were in a hurry to dump him.

Trade rumors seem to be heating up:
L.A. teams a good fit for Teixeira

Saturday, July 26, 2008 | Print Entry

The market for Mark Teixeira seems to be slowly heating up. The two L.A. clubs have shown the strongest interest, although Boston and Tampa Bay are waiting in the wings.

Arizona is a "highly unlikely" destination, according to one source. Teixeira is an ideal fit for the Angels, who are getting no production from their DH spot this year (except when Vlad Guerrero is in it, which means they get no production from right field).

The fit for the Dodgers is less obvious because a trade would either include James Loney or push him to the bench. Teixeira has been as good or better in the second half of every season he has played in the majors since his first season in 2003, and he has a career second-half OPS of .943.

To the extent that a "second-half player" exists, Teixeira would be it. And there's no doubt that he'll command two draft picks -- probably a late first-round pick and a sandwich pick -- when he leaves as a free agent this offseason.

Dodgers hunting for relief help
Now that the Dodgers have dealt for a bat, they'll also now turn their attention to pitching. Among names they're believed to be still pursuing: Colorado's Brian Fuentes, Baltimore's George Sherrill, Cincinnati's David Weathers and Oakland's Alan Embree. They're not believed to be interested in Oakland closer Huston Street.

Another possibility could be trading for Greg Maddux, who has told San Diego he would only waive his no-trade clause to accept a deal to L.A. The Dodgers could then move one of their current starters to the bullpen.

Red Sox In Trade Talks For Juan Uribe
By Tim Dierkes [July 23, 2008 at 8:02pm CST]

According to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com, the Red Sox are "deep in conversations" for White Sox infielder Juan Uribe. Knobler says the return is unclear but the White Sox want to shed Uribe's salary. Uribe has about $1.7MM left on his contract this year.

Uribe's White Sox career has been on life support several times this year, but he's managed to stick around. With Joe Crede's back ailing, Uribe is currently filling in at third base.

Yankees Eyeing Bannister?
By Nat Boyle [July 27 at 12:44pm CST]

Should the Jarrod Washburn deal fall apart, the Yankees are exploring an alternative in Brian Bannister for Melky Cabrera. Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star writes,

"Nothing appears imminent, but the framework for a deal seems to exist because New York has already shown a willingness to part with [Melky] Cabrera. Add this: The Royals nearly obtained Cabrera in a trade-deadline swap two years ago for veteran outfielder Reggie Sanders before Sanders suffered an injury."

In this scenario, David Dejesus moves to left to make room for Cabrera in center. And Mark Teahen would get back to his natural position at first base. Cabrera is making $461,200, only $40,200 more than Bannister, and both are set to reach arbitration after this season.

The Yanks prefer Washburn but are in negotiations after the Mariners rejected an offer of Cabrera and Kei Igawa for the lefty veteran. Seattle might want Brett Gardner as well as for the Yankees to take on all of Washburn's $14MM contract through next year.

It's hard to take any Dodger trade rumors involving Teixeira or Maddux seriously, at least if it involves them giving up anything of consequence. I assume given his years of service that Teixeira is on the verge of free agency, and Maddux is playing out the very end of his career and has not been tremendously effective this year.

He won't have to grow up or get over himself until he's not making a bloated paycheck to do what he does. What's the incentive?

As an Indians fan, I was glad to see him go. I was disappointed he didn't give Boston the same lackluster performance in post season play he did the Indians.

'Cancer' implies he's somehow bad for the team and making the team worse as a whole. This just isn't true. The Red Sox wouldn't have won either of those two championships without Manny. This stuff gets blown way out of proportion.

I think you are giving Manny to much credit. The fact is without Ortiz the Red Sox would not have won those games. They pitch around Ortiz and face Manny. I think he is bad for the team. He is not classy and is pulling the team apart from the inside out. We don't know what goes on in the clubhouse but Im sure the talk there is that Manny needs to grow up.

On another note, is this game going to play tonight? We have been getting bad storms here all day and I think they are moving into Boston now.

No that's not actually a fact. But yes, they're both great. Certainly not cancerous.

Also- the doppler looks like the rain should be through by 8, or soon thereafter. I'm sure they'll play.

didn't you just completely contradict yourself here?

David Ortiz is only a good hitter because he's been protected by Manny Ramirez. He wouldn't put up half his numbers if he wasn't.

Manny was a hall of famer before he started playing with Ortiz.. Ortiz was a nobody until he started playing with Manny.

As for tonights game, Lester stepped up huge again. He's the ****ing man.

That is exactly what I'm implying. It's all conjecture, to be sure. Neither you or I know what Boston could be without his negative presence, neither you or I know who Boston could have in his place if they were paying a portion of his salary to another player, and neither you or I are fully aware of how much he is disliked throughout the organization considering most of his Red Sox colleagues have some class and aren't bad mouthing him.

And also, I'm not talking about the World Championship Red Sox teams, I'm talking about this year. This year when Manny has assaulted members of the organization, potentially exaggerated injuries, badmouthed his team and a myriad of other distracting antics... all while the BoSox are in second place and only two games over the Yankees.

I'm not huge Boston fan, and certainly not a Boston hater, but the majority of the long time fans that I know want him gone. And I think his "being tired of Boston" rant yesterday is more than a little telling as well.

Posada to shut season down, have surgery on right shoulder

NEW YORK -- Jorge Posada will have season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, ending his attempt to return to the New York Yankees' lineup for the team's playoff push.
The All-Star catcher has struggled with shoulder pain most of the season, weakening his throws and limiting his playing time behind the plate.

On the disabled list for the second time this year, Posada was trying to rehabilitate his shoulder enough to come back as a DH or first baseman this season. But after the Yankees acquired slugger Xavier Nady in a trade with Pittsburgh on Saturday, they decided it was best for Posada to have surgery, general manager Brian Cashman said.
