The only thing that sucks is Theo couldn't do another deal to get more bullpen help.

Exactly..That's where the Sox need help most, esp for the stretch run. They tried to move Hanson last July and there were no takers.I think they've known that he wasn't going to make it here..How Bay does adjusting to the AL will remain to be seen..At least the soap opera is over and hopefully the team get can get back to and focus on baseball instead of having every question from the media be about Manny..
The dynamic of the team and clubhouse the past few weeks were a carbon copy of the weeks before the Nomar trade..

My thoughts on Manny's value are no secret, but I really think Boston made out like bandits on this trade. Dodgers pick up an aging PITA who has (poorly) played half of left field (the other half played by the Green Giant) to augment their already solid lineup of outfielders, giving up a younger talent with near identical offensive numbers.

The only interesting thing: if there was a manager in MLB who could reign in Manny, it would be Torre. Will be fun to see where that goes.

definitely going to miss him, but getting jason bay in exchange for a guy who's going to be a FA in 2 months is great.

The Dodgers haven't given up any outfielders -- yet, and none of the younger (or older) talent can match Ramirez's power numbers -- yet.

Torre is going to have his hands full, that's for sure. I wonder if Ramirez will be available for tonight's game against Arizona. I assume he's flying coast to coast at this very moment.

Guarantee you that either Joe Torree is leaving at the end of the season or manny is cause they will not get along at all!

He'll probably show up a few days late. :p

Well, he's a free agent, and I'd say its less than 5% that the Dodgers sign him to his 4 year $100 million deal.

I think it's a safe bet that the Dodgers aren't going to sign Ramirez as a free agent. He's a rental, pure and simple. Could be a valuable rental if the Dodgers make it into the post-season.

All I gotta say is the thorn in the Yankees side is gone.:D

Chew on this Sox fans, Manny hits great in Yankee Stadium, They can afford to pay him. Arod Manny batting 3 4 next year. How does that sound.

Not to mention Manny's D on the road..It was always an adventure whenever a ball was hit to Manny away from Fenway..Not to mention that the some of the NL parks have huge outfields...That's going to be interesting to watch..

Sounds like the Yankees overpaying another old man past his prime.

Yeah Manny was hitting something like .450 vs. their biggest rival over the last two years. Great plan getting rid of him and Hansen.

Agreed.

Manny still can hit, I'll give him that. But we don't need another weak arm in the outfield.

His fielding may be in slo-mo at times, but his arm isn't weak. He's a pretty accurate mother...

Yeah, but nowhere near as good as he did back in his prime.

Some of the things I have read keep saying "Bay isn't anywhere near the hitter Manny has been." While obviously Manny was one of the best hitters ever when he was in his prime, he's 36 now. You have to compare what Manny is going to do now that he's old to what Bay is doing now. I think Bay is definitely an adequate replacement (and possibly an upgrade) to 36/37 year old Manny.

2008 Bay: .282/.375/.519/.894 22HR 64RBI 59BB 86K
2008 Manny: .299/.398/.529/.927 20HR 68RBI 52BB 86K

Pretty even. This doesn't take in to account that the Pirates lineup is much weaker than the Red Sox and PNC Park is also the #28 hitters park (according to ESPN) in the league. Hopefully, hitting in the lineup with guys like Ortiz, Pedroia, Drew, Youks, and Lowell, Bay will get some better pitches to hit. Also, having the monster out in LF instead of the huge LF in PNC will help.. I'd expect his SLG to increase because he will definitely take advantage of Fenway.

I was at the Apple store around 4 and I asked a Red Sox fan so is Manny gone, he says no. I go to espn and it says Manny still there. I go down stairs to the sports store and the guy says Manny to the Dodgers, I say you must be wrong I just looked. So I go back and check and it says Manny to the Dodgers. I find that Red Sox fan and he's like oh ****.:p

He probably won't start for a week at least. Have you ever bought a jersey from MLB.com? It takes forever...
