So Willie came back to the Stadium for Old Timers Day and the fans gave him a huge ovation. Take that Met fans. :p

I still think he'll be a coach there next year, if not sooner.

He's a class act, of course he got an ovation. Same way that, while I have only actively "cheered" for the Yankees once in my life, I have always been a Joe Torre fan.

But I think a lot of what the fans did today was a big F U to the Mets for how they treated him.

After an amazing double-play in the 7th from Dan Murphy, playing left field in his first ever ML game, to keep the Mets' lead at 2, Billy-Blown-Saves strikes again!

On we go to the 10th.

Mets are two games out of first now, actually in third even. Horrible way to lose... Santana pitches well for 6+ only for Billy Blown Saves to blow it in the 9th.

The Phillies are just too scrappy this year. The NL East is going to be tight through the end of the season and, worse, with no one breaking out we won't have a wildcard invite considering the top of the NL Central.

Manny hit his first homer as a Dodger tonight, a two-run bomb that ended up being the difference in the game. Now he's talking about finishing up his career in LA. I doubt that's going to happen, but so far Manny as a Dodger is a happy match.

i think he is bipolar...

More like bicoastal.

Anyway, we don't give a flying you-know-what through a rolling doughnut if he wears the square root of pi on the back of his uniform, so long as he murders the baseball.

BTW, he's sticking with 99. Once again, Joe Buck doesn't know what he's talking about.

He seems to reaffirm that every single time he does a game....

Well, right. Always on top of the story is Joe. There was apparently a suggestion on his first day that he wanted number 30, which is currently worn by Casey Blake. Blake offered to give up the number but Ramirez said he'd stick with 99.

Hey! I didn't notice there was a MLB thread here!

I love the Twins! Who else does? My favorite player is probably Justin Morneau or Denard Span.

Pardon the slight hijack, but seriously... how does he keep getting work? I thought he was bad calling NFL, but he's even worse with baseball. /shudder

And Joe Morgan is any better, just to name another? Hardly a day goes by when we don't thank our lucky stars that Vin Scully is still calling our games. It makes up some for years of disappointing team performance.

Welcome, TSE.

Joe Morgan is certainly better, but not by much. :) I admit I do usually enjoy Jon Miller though. His unique voice gives me comfort.

I was just speaking with a friend the other day with how much I love Vin Scully. He's my favorite solo-caller. Thankfully, I also enjoy the Mets' announcers.

simple, fox wants to be like the home of the all star jr. announcing club. look at how many sons of broadcasters fox has. joe buck, kenny albert, thom brennaman, used to have chip caray. they lose buck, they lose their cash. seriously, buck is pretty bad and i have no clue why fox keeps his sorry butt, but chip caray is way worse, especially since coming to tbs.

I think the most recent worst announcers were the ones TBS had doing the early playoff rounds last year  Dreadful is an understatement...

Seeing as a I follow the Mets via MLB.tv I get the home television announcers of whomever they are visiting while away. The Cardinals and Nationals come to mind as having awful announcers.
