Red Sox starter Josh Beckett has been scratched from his scheduled start tomorrow night and will be sent to see Dr. James Andrews in Alabama.

In a postgame interview, manager Terry Francona said Beckett was seeing Andrews as a precaution. There was no indication the tingling sensation he felt in his pitching hand had returned.

"I think the best word I can use is we're just trying to get some closure," Francona said. "We never want to send anyone out there that's not 100 percent. We're no more pessimistic about him today ..."

Beckett had been given the thumbs up to pitch Friday night at Fenway Park against the White Sox after his side session on Tuesday, but now will be pushed back for the second time in a week. He hasn't pitched since an Aug. 17 start in Toronto in which he gave up 8 runs in 2 1/3 innings.

"I think scary is probably a good word for it," Beckett said Wednesday. "I've had some sleepless nights thinking about all kinds of stuff. You generally think the worst."

Elbow tenderness and an awkward sleeping position may have contributed to the tingling, but no one claims to know the source of the problem.

"We're trying to figure out what's causing it and go from there," Beckett said Wednesday. "Right now it's just day to day and I'm dealing with it. We have a great medical staff. We're trying to be cautious. We're not talking about just the end of a season, but about the end of a career. Some organizations would do anything they could to get a player back out there. I appreciate what they are doing for me here."

The Globe's Dan Shaughnessy contributed to this report..

As you said before about Joba... anyone who sees Dr. Andrews is done.

I'm really hoping that Beckett will be as lucky as Joba. I'm really worried. Beckett was having numbness/tingling in his pinky and ring finger, which is usually caused by some problem with the ulnar nerve.. which is right next to the ulnar collateral ligament.. if he's got some ligament damage that's putting pressure on his ulnar nerve, he'll need tommy john surgery.

If Beckett needs Tommy John surgery, his career as an ace is effectively over.

No it isn't. He will just be out for probably this year, next year, and will come back the year after at 75% and than the year after that he will be back to normal. Look at Liriano.

The news on Josh Beckett is becoming a little clearer. Beckett visited with Dr. James Andrews today and tests on his right elbow all came back clean, according to Terry Francona. If all goes well, Francona said he expects Beckett to be back to start the first game of the Rangers series, which is Friday in Texas.

"If he doesn’t come through [get a clean bill of health], we'll try something else," Francona said on the chance of Beckett starting Friday.

Great news.

Michael Bowden is going to make his MLB debut tomorrow... should be exciting.

Also, one stat I noticed that really caught my eye:

"Another note, Dustin Pedroia just scored Boston's eighth run of the night and his 104 of the season, a new record, erasing Bobby Doerr's old mark of 103."

Hall of Famer Bobby Doerr, the #1 on the RF facade at Fenway...

Dice-BB with a 8IP 2H 0R 2BB 7K performance tonight.. might be his best game in a sox uniform.

went to the rays game last night, and man it was awesome. finally, the folks agreed to go to a game (we're 3 1/2 hours from the stadium) after watching the rays for 5 years on tv. and man, it was a great winning atmosphere out there. it was bells everywhere, and everyone believed in a winning team. the biggest inning was the fourth, when zobrist hit a grand slam and scored 7 runs. cowbells everywhere. most left after the sixth due to long game and a blowout. and their winning song was fun to dance to and gave fans that watched this team for years being bad. 50th home win and 82nd win, first winning season ever. more details later.

Dustin Pedroia for MVP. He just had his second straight 4-4 1BB night.

Now up to .327 (1st in AL), 182 hits (1st in AL), 106 runs (1st in AL), 15 HR, 68 RBI. He's had 53 multi-hit games, 20 3-hit games, and 7 4-hit games.

AAARRRRGGHHH! Joe Nathan blows his second save in his last three chances! I know that pitchers, like hitters, go through slumps but c'mon... It's Joe Freakin Nathan! This just doesn't happen to him. He's one of, if not the best closers in the game. Just go on and get them tomorrow! Still just a half game behind the White Sox so we're still in good shape but man, the Twins bullpen has lost 3 games during this road trip. Not good.

Best world series:

Milwaukee Brewers VS. Minnesota Twins

Twins offense and bullpen has just been horrible. This road trip is going to continue to be painful until we call up some bullpen help for September 1st.

that would be sweet, epic really. our bullpen needs help too but we keep winning with the bats and we have a pretty light road in september (except for the 6 games against chi)

CC Sabathia has just been dominating, your offense has been dominating, you guys are definitely going to go far for this season, I can't see you guys competing after this season when a lot of your rented players leave. I love your GM though, he knows what he wants, and he wants to win NOW. The Twins are always getting into the playoffs, but are missing just one thing each time to get them very far in the playoffs.

complete game one hitter!!! the man is a missile launcher... hopefully benny sheets pitches well next game and the bats stay hot. it seems its either brauny or hardys big bats that win the game or the second half of the order getting on a hot streak like today....
