Twins picked up a HUGE win from the White Sox tonight. 2 more against the Chisox at the Dome.

Twins are now 1.5 back, if they sweep they're a half game up and looking real good. If they don't sweep it's looking rough. Luckily the White Sox still face Cliff Lee (Their last game)

Dodgers' magic number is 3. If they win tonight or the Diamondbacks lose (or both) I have a chance to watch the Dodgers clinch at home Thursday night. I've already got tickets to games 3 and 4 of the division playoffs, so this had better happen!

Those amazing Rays spotted the Orioles six runs after two innings, but have just gone ahead 7-6. :D

Well, I'll be rooting for the Dbacks losing for you since they're playing the Cardinals tonight :D (Even though I vaguely know the Dback's pitcher tonight since we went to the same high school and he graduated a year or two before me, I'm still hoping we kick his ass ;))

Brewers back into it thanks to CC and Prince. No thanks to the pen. We got one more against the Pirates and three at home against the cubbies. win 3 of the last 4 and the crew will be in the playoffs.

Huge game for the Twins and White Sox tonight. This has been a ton of fun to follow. So much for this being a rebuilding year for the Twins! Anybody going to tonight's game at the Dome?

Thanks, it seems to have worked! Arizona lost, Dodgers won -- magic number is now uno. I get to be at a game Thursday night where the Dodgers can clinch the division. Of course I wouldn't too disappointed if your Cards beat the Diamondbacks in the afternoon and did the job for us.

I can't wait to watch it. From home, I mean. I was at the last home game a couple years ago when Nomar won it with a walkoff grand slam. Pretty cool!

I'd like to see Furcal get in a couple games over the weekend to see if he can contribute anything.

Looking more and more like Nostra Ditty every day..True to form, the Mets blow a 5-1 lead.

Mwhahahaha! :cues Under Pressure:

It really is amazing to me that they can't close it out. I mean honestly they had like a 4 game lead like 2/3 weeks ago. The Phils have been decent as of late, but just like the Mets they are entirely too inconsistent.

@IJ - I hope you get to see the Dodgers clinch at home. I told you they would do it (also doesn't hurt that the D'backs are playing craptastic as well). Kudos to the Dodgers.

Wonder what Minaya will do in the off season if they don't make it??Spend a bundle for Manny probably..

Yes, that is one of the more interesting variables of the end of season, Kent and Saito being the others. I thought Joe might play Siato last night but it turns out his arm was a little sore. Which of the three will make the playoff roster? That's the big question. I think everybody was wondering if Joe would consider starting Kershaw in a playoff game, but last night in a short interview after the game he said that he would. If he can concentrate and pitch like he did in last night's raucous game, probably the playoffs wouldn't be such a big deal.

Thanks. Arizona was actually playing really well for about a week. I think they won five or six in a row and knocked two games off the Dodger lead.

Peavy vs. Maddux tonight. Sold out game. It will either be a complete madhouse or a big fan party, depending on what Arizona does this afternoon in St. Louis.

It won't bother me if Kershaw started a playoff game, but I don't see how it gets in the postseason rotation. Between Maddux, Lowe, Kuroda and Billingsley, they already have four better starters to work with. On the other hand, Kershaw is a lefty and the others aren't. Torre has a reputation for shuffling his playoff rotations, always looking for matchup advantages. So while I think Kershaw will end up in long relief for October, Torre still might start him.

This is true, a four-man rotation is usually all that is needed for postseason play, but I have to wonder about whether Kershaw or Maddux would be the fourth starter in the rotation. It seems whenever Maddux comes up against a home plate umpire who calls a tight strike zone, he gets pounded.

That does seem to be what's happening this year. I wonder if maybe his control has slipped just enough that he's not close enough to get those calls. Or maybe umps stopped giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I also saw it when he pitched for the Dodgers two years ago. Actually Maddux is a lot like Kuroda in this way -- he has to be right around the strike zone to be effective, so the difference between success and failure can be hair's breadth in accuracy, and the size of the zone being called by the ump. I have also heard it said that plate umpires call a smaller strike zone during the postseason, but I don't know if this is really true.

Kazmir has given up three homers to the Tigers already. Luckily, they were all with the bases empty, so the deficit is only 3-1 in the fourth. :(
