Miami is about a year away from being a top 10 team, and a possible BCS contender. They started over a dozen true freshman last year, and most of the skill players are sophmores and juniors. The ACC comes down to them and Tech, and if the Canes can win against Tech in a few weeks, they will have a real shot at winning the conference.

Here's a question for those of you who think the Bradford injury had no bearing on the game whatsoever. Would BYU have won the game if Max Hall had not played in the second half, or even if he had been replaced by a freshman for the last drive of the game?

If BYU had their offensive line and Harvey Unga back, then I believe so. In fact, with the way OU was playing in the first half, I would expect BYU to be up by 14 at the half.

But if you're saying, "If BYU lost their offensive line AND their star runner AND their QB," then I would say no, BYU would lose. But if you're going to theory that, you might as well ask, "Would BYU win if all their players were out and they had to forfeit?"

The way I see it, if there's a team that will lose every time their star player is injured, they don't belong in the top 10.

The way they played, they probably don't belong in the top 10. They are replacing most of their O-line, they were missing their best offensive weapon (Gresham) other than Bradford and they were breaking in some new WRs. Perhaps everyone's opinion of them was over-inflated because of what they were returning (rather than being realistic about what they had lost), but clearly Bradford would not have gone 6-12 for 51 yards in the second half.

Let's not forget, despite OU's offense being horrible, BYU still had to come from behind to win the game.

If a backup QB was in the game for BYU, the odds of them moving the ball 78 yards in 16 plays, converting a 4th Down and winning the game on a TD pass in the closing minutes goes down exponentially.

I think most people would agree that, had Bradford been in the game--even if everything else was exactly the same--the field goal OU had to attempt on their final play would have probably been shorter than 54 yards.

All of that, I think, points to the idea that losing a QB (especially one that is a star of Bradford's or Hall's caliber) can dramatically affect the outcome of a close game.

And I don't know why nobody else is willing to admit that had OU's offensive line not committed so many penalties, that 54 yard field goal would have been shorter as well. The 4th-and goal would have been at the 1-foot line, not at the 5-yard line.

I just like watching OU loses because they are among the over valued teams. UT being another team who always gets over rated. Yes both teams are historicly good but they are still over rated.

Biggest problem with this is other schools like OSU (Oklahoma) and Texas Tech get historically under rated and both those schools have to play a lot harder because a minor mistep by either one of them causes a huge drop in ranks. And yes I expect Texas Tech to suck this year. They lost to many of their stars players.

I like watching schools like OU loses for no other reason to show that the system over rates them way to much.

Now a team in a single game getting multiple ones of there star players injured I would expect them to have trouble holding on to a win. Losing 1 star should not kill a team but lets say you lose 3-4 of them in a in single game then it is hard to make up that loss off the field.

You are right. It was an ugly game for penalties, and that includes BYU as well. However, I think both teams will have a lot of that sorted out in the next few weeks. :)

To be honest, the only game I watched where the team looked disciplined and very mid-season was Colorado State. I'm getting kind of nervous for when the Utes have to play them at Colorado State.

The new AP polls are out.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings

A few rankings of interest (to me at least, feel free to chime in):
Oregon drops from the rankings.
Oklahoma falls to 13 while BYU skyrockets to 9.
Ohio St at 8 (though I feel they should have fallen harder. That near miss to Navy was embarrassing)
Notre Dame now at 18.
And Colorado State gets some votes (congrats dukebound!)

BYU skyrockets to 9.

This is why I hate the Coaches Poll. The AP gives the smaller schools more credit whereas the Coaches Poll is so bias it's ridiculous. Not to say the media is unbias, but it's definitely less than the coaches.

I just wish the AP poll actually mattered. I say kick out the Coaches Poll and put in the AP.

We're going to find out this weekend whether that Navy game was a fluke or not. I don't think they have a chance in hell against USC, but if they at least avoid getting run out of their own stadium, I'll think a little better of them. :)

I'm so excited for this game it's unbelievable. I'm going to Las Vegas to watch the game. I'm betting USC whatever the spread is (within reason).

Man this FLA vs. Miami game just keeps getting better. Another classic.

Just to be clear, it was FLA STATE vs. Miami. Florida and Florida State are two completely different schools, and the fans of either don't take kindly to be confused one with the other.

Great game though!

Don't understand this argument about what would have happened if Bradford hadn't got injured. Might as well argue about what would have happened if Princip Gavrilo had been a lousy shot. Coulda, woulda, shoulda,...didn't. OU had injuries, as did BYU. BYU won. Kudos to BYU.

Thought Boise State looked pretty good, would have looked better perhaps if Oregon hadn't looked so completely inept. Good punch at the end though. Don't know who came off worse there, the running back who's college career is over, or the defensive lineman who will forever be remembered for the look on his face as his eyes rolled back in his head.....( Don't ya' just love it when smack talk runs headlong into smackdown!)

Don't think we'll see much of MacDawg this year, looks to be a bad year for the Pups. ( Oh, he'll probably come in if Georgia can pull an upset on Florida!)

Right but did you hear about OU's waterboy being hurt? I heard an assistant trainer was hurt as well. You have to factor that in with the Max Hall injury!

I don't think MacDawg really should worry too much.

For as bad as UGA's O looked, their D looked quite good (especially with how poor their O played) against a solid offense.

Whether it is Cox playing or some younger guy, I can't imagine their QB play being worse under Richt for TOO LONG

UGA won't win the East or SEC but I still see them winning 9 games.

I think he's trying to imply that having your team's starting offensive line injured is the equivalent of having your waterboy injured?

Eh, you are only slightly off.

BYU's fans and/or people who support the Non-BCS schools are trying their best to find ways to downplay Bradford's injury. Whether it is stating that BYU had a few injuries thus that equaled the playing field or that the 1st half was the end all (even though they were losing), none of them really make much sense other than the people WANTING to believe it.

I have never been to Oklahoma and the only game I attended with OU playing in it (bowl game) was not a particularly fun one with most of their fans making me want to stab my eye out due to hearing their stupidity. I am not saying that is the way all their fans are but just making the point that I have nothing FOR Oklahoma.

With that said, Bradford/Tebow run their teams through and through and their stats and W's show it. With a healthy Bradford, BYU doesn't win the game. Someone asked me to prove it....I told them what I told people before Florida played Charleston Southern....I can't prove to you that UF will win....it is just common sense and reality that they will.

The weekend is once again fast approaching, so what's the most anticipated matchup?

Obviously USC at Ohio State will gain all of the media attention, but does anyone actually expect that to be a game?

What games are you looking forward to?

I think USC is going to expose Ohio State as an overrated team, so I'll be watching that one. My Utes take on San Jose State and even though they got creamed by USC last week, I think they are going to end up putting up a fight. They will be at home and now they have something to prove.

Lastly, TCU plays their first game of the season against Virginia. TCU is suppose to have a monster team this year so I'm interested to see if all the hype is warranted.

I have no doubts about USC-tOSU. Seeing as how Virginia just lost to William & Mary, I think TCU will walk all over them. Overall, the selection this weekend isn't quite as good. The Notre Dame-Michigan game could be interesting. I want to see if Michigan is back on track, and if ND is for real.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Mississippi Sate-Auburn. It's the battle of the new coaches. Time to see if coach Mullen really has improved things. Sadly, I think it may be a battle to stay out of the SEC West cellar.
