Some student sections jingle their keys on a "key" play. The first time I can ever remember seeing it was as a little kid at a Rice football game in the early 80's.

Huh. That would definitely make sense. We used to do it at the end of a win to tell the opposing fans 'goodbye'.

Sloppy first half against Wyoming today, but fortunately we got it together. Tough day for the Big 12 overall, though.

Well I'm sure glad I didn't take that easy money USC bet I was bragging about earlier. Holy crap.

Yeah, OSU really redeemed themselves tonight. Yeah, they lost, but it was a lot closer than Big 10 beatdowns in the past. I'm still trying to decide if the defenses were that good, or the offenses were that bad. I also wonder why USC couldn't do what they did on that last drive earlier in the game. That was one heck of a drive to get the game winning TD.

CSU got luuuuuucky today

Your game provided us with some halftime talk at the Boise State game tonight. Heh. I can't believe it was that close with Weber. Yikes! Must have still been running high off the Colorado win?

So I'm pleasantly surprised to see that I suddenly have ESPN U on Direct TV! So I'm watching the Utah/San Jose game.

Utah just missed a field goal from 36. Our kicker/punter missed his first PAT of his career tonight. He was Mr. Automatic for a season and a half, but now I think he's psyching himself out.

San Jose is driving! I'm sorry P-Worm, but the WAC needs a win!

EDIT: ....was driving. ;)

Utah finally woke up in the fourth. Heh. Oh well. At least the WAC got another win over the PAC-10 today. :)

Gee, thanks for that shot. :)

Anyway, I don't really know how that rumor got started, but it was all over the MSU message boards for a while. I think our headhunter firm made contact with his agent, and Peterson basically said he was a west coast kind of guy. It never went any further than that. He could have just been politely blowing MSU off, but I don't know.

On another note, is anyone watching what Houston is doing to OK State? Ouch. And this makes me want slap our former AD. Two of our out of conference games are against Georgia Tech and Houston. Oh yeah, and we get Florida out of the East this year. This is gonna be a long season. :(

Didn't really mean it as a shot but more that MSU is probably the toughest place to build a powerhouse football program in the SEC, imo. Even over Vandy because I am absolutely in love with Nashville as I have a fantastic time every time I go there for work.

I actually went to a game at MSU and enjoyed Starkville....the opposing team wasn't mine but I went with a Co-Worker whose team was a patsy playing MSU to start the season off in the 90's.

evilgEEk, don't get me started on that San Jose game, that was U-G-L-Y for us. Seriously. I went to a sports restaurant to watch it with a bunch of other Utah fans and by the end everyone was shaking their heads and just dreading our game with Oregon next week.

Our kicker looked horrible. Misses a 50 and a 55 (which is pretty expected though they were ugly kicks), but then kicks the ugliest 36 yard attempt I have ever seen. Not even close. I want Sakoda back... :(

And defensive tackles...wow...

I'm just hoping that this game will be a good wake-up call for my Utes. They have the longest win streak in the nation right now and they need to realize that every team is going to bring their A-game to give us our first loss. It doesn't matter who the opponent is, we need to bring it.

P-Worm

So.....did Oklahoma State forget to practice this week?

I thought it was actually a pretty typical game for them. Their defense has been terrible for years, Gundy's game management is always suspect and they clearly thought Houston was just going to lay down for them.

Kevin Sumlin is 10 times the coach Mike Gundy is.

Yeah, I know what you meant. I know our place in the SEC. We have the second smallest stadium and budget in the SEC. It's a statement on our program when our best coach in school history still only has a .500 winning percentage. For some reason, though, Sherrill seemed to forget how to coach or recruit, or discipline the last three years of his tenure. I won't even get into the whole Croom thing. And, of course, trying to build an SEC level program in a state with 3 million people and three D1A level schools doesn't help, either. I have long believed that if we only had one major D1-A program like Tennessee or Louisiana, we could have a major contender. This state produces a crazy level football talent.

Just woke up - had to shake off all the beer from yesterday. Holy crap, what a great day of college ball. Lots of close games. That USC game was great - I love good defensive football.

Joe McKnight

He's the man. Great game but FAR too close for comfort.

Barkley seemed pretty average. I'm impressed with his composure, and by the end of the season (and next year) he's going to be something really special. Until then, lean on Joe. Joe will carry us.

Did you get out to Vegas, badandy? Barkley will be good - that defensive line of OSU didn't give him a lot of time to work with. He seemed hurried for much of the game.

No real surprises here. Everyone in the top 12 that was behind Oklahoma State and Ohio State move up one or two spots.

Newcomers Houston(21) and Michigan(25) replace Notre Dame and Missouri.

EDIT: Posted the Coaches poll, but ESPN doesn't have the right one up. Heh.

I'm in the Vegas airport now leaving for LA in 45 minutes. I watched it at Lagasse Stadium sports book at the Palazzo. It was an amazing environment. I saw some people from USC there (students that I know I mean)!

There were some Ohio State fans too, and they were talking a lot of trash. USC didn't cover the spread so I lost a bit of money but I'm just happy we won the game.

Our offensive line, for all the hype, didn't play that well against OSU's d-line for most of the game but I guess they came through when it counted. Overall an amazing day. Barkley starts his legend and Joe McKnight establishes himself as one of the premier tailbacks in the nation. He's got like 1000 moves, it's unbelievable.

I'm hoping to see Barkley mature a lot through this season.

I also believe you all have the right man to do what Nutt did at Arkansas....which is to have some very good years every few years (2 SECCG appearences in 9-10 years). Not sure MSU will ever be more than that unless Tebow has a child and he plays at MSU.

Now, why you hired Torbush is beyond me. That man is terrible.

That one baffled me as well. Right after he was hired, some Texas A&M fans posted on some MSU message boards about how much he sucked, and that he had problems covering the spread offense. I figured they were just bitter, so I took it with a grain of salt. Last night showed they were right. Yeah, our talent is down, and we are replacing most of the secondary, but the play calls last night were terrible. It seems the man has never heard of blitzing or applying pressure of any sort. Ouch.

I never understood this scenario

when a 1 vs 2 game is played and it is a nailbiter and 1 wins

Why does 2 drop in the rankings?

I ask as the USC/OSU game was close so I am baffled why a OSU team who ALMOST beat USC would drop from 8 to 11. In my mind, they should MOVE UP even though they loss....

Arent the rankings supposed to be a measure of a team? If so, why should a close loss drop them in the polls when they play a higher ranked team?
