I didn't watch much of the Horns' game. I flipped back and forth a little but they took control of it so early I lost interest. Was is still mostly good special teams and defense or did the offense finally show up for a whole game?

Well, since I'm stuck over here in Pac-10 land, I didn't get to see the game. I could have gone to the sports bar where the OC chapter of the Texas Exes meet, but I've been sick and decided to stay home. :(

One of the touchdowns was on a punt block, but for the most part the offense seemed to actually play well from the start. Colt was pulled at the end of the 3rd. It was a good win for us, but next week will be a tough one.

Yeah next week should be a great game. That's one (along with the OU game) I've really thought could bite UT this year. They jumped that first hurdle, though.

How about this for proof that you can't use the transitive property in football? Three consecutive weeks:

Texas Tech beats Kansas State, 66-14
Kansas State beats Texas A&M, 62-14
Texas A&M beats Texas Tech, 52-30

Heh! :D

God tech sucked tonight. They had 5 turnovers.

2 of them interceptions. Sucks that Sheffield was injured and Potts had to go back in as the starter.

I will say I think it is funny. The Sheffield was the back up QB and he was never planned on being a Starter for Tech. Potts Starts this year. The guy the red shirted is back up next year and then takes over. Pott turned out to be a pretty poor QB for Tech and Sheffield turns out to be a really good one. Personally I want Sheffield back on the field and Potts on the bench.

As much as I hate to say it just looking at the stats Tech deserved to loss that game. They played sloppy. They had crappy defense but there is only so much the defense can do against 5 turnovers. Over all I blame the offence for losing that game. They played poorly and gave the ball to A&M 5 times

Reading over the recap I am glad Tech pulled Potts out of the game and put in the 3rd string QB to replace him and he did better than the original starter. I find it funny Potts was going to be great and is turning out to be a dude. Sheffield who was never expect to do great things is turning out to be great and I hope he gets back soon and starts running the show.

Pretty good game yesterday, P-Worm. AF kept it close, we just can't close it out (also lost to Navy in OT).

Haha. I was at the game yesterday and I don't have any fingernails anymore! I will tell you, though, that the Air Force game makes me nervous every single year and the lead up to this game was no exception. Air Force has a solid team this year and it's too bad they aren't getting more respect. You run the option really well and kept pushing it down the field a few yards at a time.

Rankings?

Can someone logically explain why #4 USC (6-1; loss to 3-5 Washington) is ranked ahead of ALL OF the following:
  • Boise State (7-0)
  • TCU (7-0)
  • Cincinnati (7-0)
  • Iowa (8-0)
  • LSU (6-1; loss to #1 Florida)
  • Oregon (6-1; loss to #5 Boise St.)
  • Georgia Tech (7-1; loss to #18 Miami)
  • Penn State (7-1; loss to #7 Iowa)
  • Oklahoma State (6-1; loss to #16 Houston)
  • Utah (6-1; loss to #12 Oregon)

Now if you want to bring up strength of schedule, here are the current rankings as of today (based on opponents played):

  • Iowa (#6)
  • Oregon (#21)
  • TCU (#28)
  • Georgia Tech (#32)
  • LSU (#44)
  • Penn State (#47)
  • USC (#56)
  • Oklahoma State (#64)
  • Boise State (#79)
  • Cincinnati (#89)
  • Utah (#106)

I'd say that Iowa, Oregon, TCU, Georgia Tech, LSU, and Penn State have good arguments.

I'd also say that Boise State, Cincinnati, & Utah haven't helped themselves so far when it comes to favor at the end of the year when BCS talks begin.

^^^ I think you're seeing a case where the human polls are doing a little speculation based on USC's reputation. They tend to finish strong, and perform well in their bowl games. USC was also not playing with their starting QB against UW (not that it should have mattered).

I'll admit that I'm suspect to this kind of thinking too. If they were to match Iowa up with USC right now and I had to take a straight up bet between the two - I'd be mighty tempted to take USC - even though I know Iowa has a better body of work so far this season.

So any thoughts on the new BCS standings?

I fully expected Boise State to drop, as did everyone else, so that's not a big deal to me. Although I don't think TCU should have jumped us yet. I expected them to jump us if they beat Utah, but to jump us now seems a little premature. But I'm honestly not worried. If we win out convincingly then I think this could be the year two non-BCS teams get in to the BCS party.

What really surprises me this week is Iowa's jump to #4. Is their near escape over Michigan State really that much more impressive than Cincinnati's domination over Louisville?

I don't think Iowa should be as high as they are. Their only impressive win was over Penn State. I think Cincinnati and USC should be ranked higher.

I think Cincinnati and USC should be ranked higher.

I don't think USC should be. I don't think their wins have been that impressive this year and that loss to Washington is a mighty ugly stain on their record. In fact, I have my doubts that they will get past Oregon.

TCU has good road wins over Clemson and BYU and other road wins over Virginia and Air Force. Boise has an ugly home win over Oregon and a road win over Fresno. I think, at this point (especially given how TCU won in Provo), the Frogs have the better resume.

Meh. I just don't see how those are quality wins for TCU. Just because a team is in the BCS doesn't automatically mean they're any good.

I don't mean to take anything away from TCU. I've always respected TCU for what they've done, and they did beat us by one last year in the Poinsettia Bowl. I just don't agree with the idea of their resume being so much better than ours so far. But like I said, I can see this year as being the year two non-BCS teams get in. That would be awesome.

I'll also be the first to say our schedule isn't exactly exciting. Heh. But to discount our win over Oregon by calling it "ugly" is ridiculous. The aftermath of the game was ugly, but the only reason Oregon's offense looked ugly is because our defense completely shut them down. They didn't make a ton of mistakes, there weren't a bunch of unforced turnovers. We just shut them down. I was there. I saw our defense not allow a single first down until halfway through the third quarter. I was there to see our defense hold Oregon to a paltry 152 yards, the fewest yards for an Oregon team in nearly 15 years.

I don't mean to go off on this, but I just get tired of hearing how Oregon only lost because their offense "just wasn't clicking". Well, it wasn't clicking, but it was because our defense WAS.

The Oregon game was ugly because Boise's offense crapped away numerous chances to put the game away and let the Ducks hang around. BSU's defense was awesome.

And I agree that the TCU win over UVA was so-so (and said as much), but Clemson is a good team (maybe you didn't hear, but they beat Miami in Miami yesterday) and it was on the road. If Boise had beaten Oregon in Eugene the argument would be different.

I just think that, right now, TCU's ROAD wins over BYU, Clemson, Virginia and Air Force are more impressive than Boise's HOME win over Oregon and ROAD win over Fresno. Who else has Boise played?

Meh. I just don't see how those are quality wins for TCU. Just because a team is in the BCS doesn't automatically mean they're any good.

And yet Boise State fans have used the "We beat X teams from BCS conferences" as a reason for their high status the last few years. You want the BCS conference status of teams when you win but not when another team is using it for such?

Fact is, their schedule to date has more impressive wins than BSU's.

Glad to see the Tide pulled out a nice victory over the mighty "T". That was freaking way to close if you ask me. But I will take it.

My Big Blue, got there a$$ handed to them by Penn state. It has been a better season then I expected so I am happy about that. I just wish we could win one more big game. We still have "Ohio" coming up. :D

One can dream right!

Yes,we actually play defense in the mighty SEC!

Go Vols!!!

You know, I'm still trying to decide if the defenses are that good, or if the offenses are that bad. Last season, the SEC had something like 3 teams in the top 10 in total defense. However, the conference also had 3 teams in the bottom 10 in the country in offense. I'm just happy we're no longer in that category, thanks to Dan Mullen. Now, if he can just get a decent QB recruited.

And, as always, the SEC officials did such a wonderful job. People are acting like this is a new thing this year, but SEC officials have a long history of blowing calls. I guess it's just more noticable this year thanks to all the TV time.

I think Michigan has a better than average chance of beating Ohio State this year. The Buckeyes just aren't very good and Navy & Purdue have already proved their defense isn't all that special.

I think it's a little of both. A lot of the SEC's offenses are pedestrian, but you need only look at what Florida did to OU, Ole Miss did to Texas Tech, etc. in the bowls last year to see that some of those better defenses are for real.

That would be a good game. Iowa hangs around on the strength of their defense and special teams. Offense pulls through when necessary. It'd be good to see USC up against a defensive team like Iowa.

I am praying we beat them. This is really the only team I want to beat this year,,,,,well ok, I lied, them and ND. But ohhhh how this would make my year!
