It appears we're headed towards Texas versus Florida at the BCS Championship Game. And Texas will win a squeaker over Florida because Texas has a more consistent offense, unless Tim Tebow starts to play really well over the next few weeks.

Really, you think so? Because before last night, I've YET to see UT's offense show any consistency this season. They seem to struggle in the first half and come to life in the second; not my idea of consistency.

I refuse to get involved in this conversation because I don't want to jinx us, but I'll tempt fate just a smidge to point out that we hung 35 on Missouri by halftime a week prior.

But your point is still valid, and I'll go back to knocking on wood now. ;)

Hey does anyone know what all the black uniforms was about in the SEC? Georgia was wearing black helmets for the first time in school history and Tennessee wore black jerseys. Was it just for Halloween or was there something else to it? I thought the Georgia uni's looked good, but I didn't like my Vols in black at all. It just looked too goofy.

True enough about Missouri - but to be fair to myself, I didn't watch that one.

Another reason why I hate Florida...

Did anyone else see Brandon Spikes' cheap eye gouge on Georgia's RB Washaun Ealey??

Absolutely pathetic and so obviously intentional with how he brought his arm around and felt for the gap in the helmet.

I hate Florida even more after seeing this. The SEC had better do something about this.

Yeah that was dirty, no doubt about it. Looks like he's out the first half against Vanderbilt only as punishment. I'd think the NCAA could/should impose something more.

It was for Halloween. Utah did the same thing for our second annual "Blackout" game where the team and fans wear black instead of red. Maybe I'm just biased, but I think the Utes' uniforms looked a lot better than Georgia's or Tennessee (Tennessee's looked like practice jerseys). Check out some of these pictures:

No kidding. This was beyond classless and a half game penalty just isn't enough.

Just imagine..you try and gouge a guy's eye and :::shudder::: the punishment is to sit two quarters of football. A whole two quarters  Could've ruined that guy's career and caused permanent eye damage.

Yeah, I saw that. The Vols looked like big pieces of candy corn. That orange is obnoxious enough, but the black just made it worse. One of these days, UGA is going to learn not to wear black. They wore black uniforms one time last year, and lost, and then they did it again for this game. Maybe I'm just too much of a traditionalist, but I tend to agree with Rich Brooks. If it isn't part of your school colors, don't wear it. I don't get the fascination with the black uniforms.

I would say Texas may have a more consistent passing offense. They have no real running game.

Texas is ranked 49th in rush offense, Florida is 6th.
Texas is ranked 27th in pass offense, Florida is 90th.
Texas is ranked 31st in total offense, Florida is 13th.

Don't mind me though. I'm just a really bitter OU fan :)

I'm not sure anyone can "handle" Florida's defense and I also agree that Texas needs to be less one dimensional. OU gave teams the roadmap to beat Texas but couldn't close the deal because their offense has been ineffectual against better teams.

Texas' defense has been better than I thought they'd be this year, but they do have some weaknesses. That being said, I'm not sure Tebow and his underwhelming WR's would be able to exploit them.

I honestly thought Texas would lose a couple of games this year, but the Big 12 has been weaker than anticipated and key personnel losses by OU (Bradford, Gresham, etc.) and OSU (Bryant, Hunter) ruined their chances of upsetting the Horns. Only A&M really stands between Texas and another trip to the National Championship Game, and that's a really long shot (and only because it's a home game).

Texas wouldn't be able to handle Florida's defense.

Big12 doesn't know what defense is

As much as it pains me to stick up for Texas, you aren't basing that on reality. I could easily say that Florida and their 90th ranked pass offense couldn't handle the Texas defense.

Texas Defense
  • Run Defense - 1st - 52.8yds/gm
  • Pass Defense - 29th - 187.8 yds/gm
  • Total Defense - 3rd - 240.75 yds/gm
  • Scoring Defense - 11th - 13.6 pts/gm
  • Pass Efficiency Defense - 5th - 95.15
  • INTs Defense - 2nd - 16
  • Fumble Recoveries - 13th - 10
  • Tackles for loss - 8th - 63
  • Sacks - 14th - 23

Florida Defense
  • Run Defense - 11th - 97.8yds/gm
  • Pass Defense - 2nd - 138.75 yds/gm
  • Total Defense - 2nd - 236.6 yds/gm
  • Scoring Defense - 2nd - 11.0 pts/gm
  • Pass Efficiency Defense - 5th - 88.43
  • INTs Defense - 6th - 14
  • Fumble Recoveries - 13th - 118th - 2
  • Tackles for loss - 43rd - 51
  • Sacks - 37th - 19

So Texas stacks up quite nicely to Florida's D.

This would be an interesting matchup because Texas' passing offense is really good and Florida's passing D is really good. Likewise, Florida's run offense is good versus a really good Texas run D.

you also realize Florida plays a much tougher schedule?

Texas SOS is 40
Florida SOS is 16

Texas really hasn't played one good team yet, and won't for the rest of the season. They have been struggling/slow to start in practically every game this year.

Also, I am not too sure Florida will be able to beat Bama in the SEC championship.

You use our SOS and the idea that we 'haven't played a single good team yet' as a reason we can't beat Florida, then turn around and say Florida might get beat by Alabama - a team that has an SOS that's worse than ours?

Heh.

They've each played one good team (LSU, OU) and two better-than-average teams (Tennessee & UGA, Texas Tech & OSU). The non-conference scheduling for both was beyond pathetic.

Actually, if you go by cumulative schedule, Texas is 35th, Florida is 42nd

GBE Ratings has Texas 27th, Florida is 28th

Phil Steele has Texas at 40th, Florida at 34th

So, you overstate things when you say "a much tougher schedule", depending on who you ask.

As to your struggling comment, Florida looked pretty blah against Miss. St. and Arkansas while Alabama has looked human in a couple of games including vs. Tennessee.

I wouldn't consider OU a good team.

And the SEC winner will destroy Texas

Considering OU lost a damn good linebacker, an All-American TE, & reigning Heisman QB for the season, yet only lost to the AP #2, #16 & #25 teams (all away from Norman) by a combined 5 points, I would say they are better than you give credit.

Nobody has been dominant all season. Even Florida and Alabama looked mediocre against Tennessee, a team that was beaten at home by a UCLA squad that has yet to win a game in the Pac-10.

I do think that Florida probably has a better team than Texas, but I haven't seen anything from Florida that would make me think a big Florida win is a foregone conclusion. Even less so from Alabama.

That's just plain WRONG! Okay, it made me smile... :p

I can't tell what he has written in the eye black. Is it the same thing Tebow has or something else for increased humor?
