I think Rich Rod is canned too
and depending on how LSU does this year, they will probably want Miles

I think Les Miles is a joke of a coach
His clock management alone is enough to fire him... the Ole Miss game wasn't the first
Remember the pass against Auburn to end the game?
That one worked out for him, but it was still as stupid call

He won the NC with 2 losses and the Dawgs were clearly the best team from the SEC that year down the stretch
The NC that year should have been UGA and USC, not LSU and Ohio State

I actually hope he stays at LSU, cause I don't think they will ever win big with him

UGA got smoked by Tennessee that year and pummeling a weak (by BCS bowl standards) Hawaii team doesn't mean much compared to LSU's domination of Ohio State. Yeah, the Tigers had two losses, but they were both in overtime to good teams (at #17 UK and vs. rival Arkansas). As for USC, they had two losses, too, including that loss to a Stanford team that finished 4-8.

LSU would have beaten UGA or USC that year. Sorry.

You are dreaming on that one
Yes, they lost to Tennessee early in the year in a bad loss, but came on strong
And beat that Kentucky team that beat LSU

LSU had several ugly wins that year and could have easily lost 5, not 2

LSU was extremely thankful to get Tennessee in the Championship game and not UGA, and didn't exactly spank them either

Your judgement is clouded by your fandom.

Ha, Ha
Most everyone in the country and all of the sportswriters agreed with me on that one

It is why the Dawgs finished ranked #2 and were preseason #1
No, they did not live up to the their ranking, but they were decimated by injuries on the offensive and defensive lines that year

But that is all in the past

I am looking forward to this year and seeing if our defense can improve under Grantham
and what our red shirt freshman QB can do

I think Michigan will go after Jim Harbaugh next. He's a UM alum, and he's turning out to be a pretty good coach.

Don't you mean without Tebow and Urban Meyer?

I actually think the Urban Legend will be back on the sideline for the 2010 season. You could see in the Sugar Bowl that although he was more relaxed (almost zoned out), but I think that is causing more stress than actually coaching. It's like an addiction for some of these guys.

You are probably right about that
I think he is a better coach than Miles and would be a better choice

Yeah, I don't get it. First, the job is causing all these health problems (or at least making them worse), then all of a sudden it doesn't? It seems insulting to his family to talk about wanting to spend time with them and improve his health, then turn around and say he is coming back at some point. If the job caused all those problems in the past, what makes him think it won't cause problems when he comes back?

Oh yeah, the hits keep coming for Tennessee.

Harbaugh is a great coach (certainly a great job with a lot less talent than other places), but there has been a lot of friction between Harbaugh and Michigan in recent years, so he might not be as ideal a fit as he seems. Still, he has turned down several jobs that have to be considered better than Stanford, so he might just be holding out for his alma mater.

Miles is a UM guy, too.

I also don't think Pellini would leave Nebraska for LSU. NU is the job he wanted all along (he was the interim coach in the bowl game after Solich got canned and, from all accounts, was very upset when he didn't get the head job).

Pelini will definitely not go to lsu. Bo loves the nebraska program and his family loves lincoln. Pelini is not a man who would jump after extra $. He also has Tom Osborne as his mentor and AD (who he has a great relationship with). But if it did come down to $, Nebraska can out bid any team in the country.

That being said, I think the only job that Pelini would leave for would be the ohio state job when tressel retires. (alma mater)

I would be embarrassed to be a Trojan fan

I've never known one to be embarrassed. They just stop rooting for the team when things don't go well, then slap the license plate frames or whatever back on when the team starts to make them look good again. ;)

That clown isn't going to be able to do anything without it coming out because so many people hate him. I really think that if the NCAA is going to have these rules about what you can and can't do in recruiting, they need to sanction the people that violate them, not just the schools those people work for.

That's at least seven secondary violations for Kiffin in a year. At what point does the NCAA go from a laughingstock to a complete sham? Disgraceful.

I wouldn't know - I got there in '96. :p

I bet 1997 was a banner year for attendance.

It's not already?

I personally like our recruiting method: Take recruits to strip clubs. :)

It seems a couple of our current players took a couple of recruits to a local strip club during a recruiting visit. Now some people are getting bent out of shape over it. Supposedly it's a secondary violation, which makes no sense to me. University staff knew nothing about this. Do they expect university officials to follow them around 24 hours a day or something?

Until things change (which is to say, never) it can't be considered a complete sham because they still slap the schools that aren't royalty. The NCAA is one of the most corrupt organizations I've ever seen.

Since official visits fall into the category of official university activities (or whatever terminology they use), everything that happens while a kid is in town has to be supervised by the school. It used to be that the recruits got their BJ's from the girls that hosted the recruiting visits, but CU and others abused this so badly that it's not allowed anymore.

I know. Because we are Mississippi State and not, say Florida or Alabama, we'll probably get probation because of this crap. Alabama got slapped with probation twice within 5 years, one of the qualifiers for the death penalty, but the NCAA didn't do jack to them. They are on probation right now for athletes selling buy textbooks for others, but you didn't hear anything about that. Oh yeah, they were still within the 5 year window from the last probation. It's the same reason I think nothing will come of the whole Reggie Bush or O.J. Mayo thing at USC.

The mentality of montioring recruits is another example of the NCAA's silliness. The rules are so nit-picky that it's almost impossible to NOT commit at least secondary violations on a regular basis. When I first joined the athletic club, I got this booklet describing what I could and couldn't do as an alum, and it was crazy. In the case of the strip club thing: what is the university staff supposed to do? Strap an ankle monitoring device on the recruits? The school gets in trouble due to the hormones of 18-21 year old kids. Of course, if an alum or university staff takes them to a club, then yeah, nail the school. But already enrolled students doing it? Come on.

The current players are supposed to know what they can and can't do with recruits. It's the athletic department's/compliance department's job to make sure they understand the rules. The rules may be stupid, but there is no shortage of information about them (as you illustrated with your anecdote about the booklet you received).

Yeah, I know. It's just bloody annoying.

In other news, it appears that Urban Meyer is turning into the Brett Favre of college coaches. It appears that his leave of absence is going to be short lived. I swear, he is just going to drop dead on the sideline one day.

We still averaged over 74,000. And yes, I was at every one of them. :)

We're not as crazed as A&M for football, but there's a big difference between Texas and pretty much anywhere in the Pac-10. It's just not as big a deal out here - especially when teams aren't winning.

Nah I'm just kidding. I've been to several games in Austin (though not since the latest remodel) and it's a great venue for football. The only Pac-10 stadium I've ever been to was the Rose Bowl (for a UCLA game) and I was not as impressed as I have been with A&M, Texas, LSU and OU.
