So, apparently there is some big sex scandal in France that is focused on some of their world cup players, including Ribery.
I didn't know the French had a newspaper called Le Soleil :)

Obviously curious as to what comes out of this, but it's good to know it's not just us English that cause their players distractions by sensationalist journalism right before a World Cup :D

Pearson's placing the ultimate blame firmly on Paul Duffen.

Morally abhorrent, whereas Dowie is facially abhorrent. Hmm.

Well, Dowie can't help the fact that he looks like Sloth - that's his ancestors' fault. So I'll say the Duffens and Pearsons are to blame.

Apparently some fans were chanting Phil Brown's name last night. I have to say, poor Dowie has not improved on his predecessor. There's still time to escape the drop though. Put your shootin' boots on Jozy!!

Portsmouth Europa League appeal rejected by FA
Can't say I'm surprised really and it's probably good news for Liverpool fans ;)

I'm hoping we won't need that kind of help!

But, apart from sympathizing with the fans (bar one) to a certain extent, you have to say justice is served. Portsmouth was run in a totally irresponsible manner, and they are getting their just desserts.

This doesn't bode well with the already weakened French team...

Ribbery got himself red carded y'day and will prob miss the final if Bayern goes through...

-J.-

If Ribery misses the final (assuming Bayern go through), it will make the match a rout. Lyon is one thing, Inter or Barca is something else. Without "Robbery", Bayern are not a Champions League caliber team. Something tells me that UEFA will chicken out and settle for a 1 match ban.

The scandal is not good news for Les Bleus either...their form is already rubbish, this will just make it worse. Group stage exit perhaps?

Just found this thread! Wow, soccer and Apple fans? This must be the cream of the crop. :D

Aston Villa fan here. Good to see them leap into 6th. I don't think they have a chance to top Spurs for Champions League. 3 games left and they both have Man City. Spurs get Burnley and Bolton (both should be wins) and AV have Birmingham City (ugh they better win this one!) and Blackburn. Either way, I'm glad to see 4 teams vying for that 4th spot in the last weeks!

Up the Villa!

Underage hookers, apparently.

There were indeed, a lot of them I'm sure were the same folk calling for Brown's head not so long ago.

I don't think the decision to remove Brown was necessarily a bad one, but the timing of it was. A key problem is that Dowie just doesn't seem to know the squad, and he's not got the time to.

There's still time to escape the drop though.
If we lose on Saturday and West Ham win, we're effectively relegated. We'd be six points behind with six points available from the remaining games, but the goal difference involved would be neigh on impossible to overcome. Meanwhile, my Wigan tickets have arrived. :p

Aye, that'll be us. Who do you support then? Just as long as it's not Aston Villa or owt, not after last night.

Aston Villa fan here.
<Mutters to self darkly>

Remember – any lip, and the nekkid Phil Brown pictures get posted.

Phil's up for it. As it were...

I agree that the timing on the Phil Brown sacking strikes me as odd. The suits must have been totally convinced that Ian Dowie could save the club. I think it would have been wiser to let Brown finish out the season, and then take it from there.

That's called supporting a club. Fair play to ya. :D

Wouldn't be the first time (see Korea/Japan WC)...I'm counting on it...Mexico and Uruguay will come out of that group...

Personally, I'd like to see France beat Mexico, with a dodgy Henry handball leading to a score.

Alternatively, Pearson has been doing a lot of digging into the things that went on behind the scenes at the club during Duffen's tenure – there's the possibility that something has been discovered that has made Brown's position untenable. That's just conjecture, of course... whatever the reason, getting shut and appointing Dowie was a huge gamble and – unless something remarkable happens – it hasn't paid off.

People are talking about administration being a real possibility, but we'll have to see. We don't actually owe a great deal of money (in football terms, at least) but the finances are in such a mess it could happen. Hmm.

We tried to knock £5 million off your debt a couple of months ago but you weren't interested. :p
Oi, pack it in you. I've got more Brown pictures, you know. :p

He's been injured for a while now of course, had he stayed fit he might just have helped us get a couple more crucial points and justified the decision to hang onto him – but we'll never know. One thing's for certain – if you still want Hunt, you're likely to get him in the summer.

Well done Fulham! I was hoping Dempsey could grab an away goal. Fulham still have a job to do though, a scored draw will knock them out so they have to attack.

As for Liverpool, meh, I guess a decent result all things considered (our form is poor, bus/train journey, no Torres etc etc). Oh, and Benayoun's goal was onside. But we will require a strong performance at Anfield to win this tie - i.e. another 4-1 like we handed out to Benfica. And Athletico are more dangerous than Benfica. The lack of an away goal will haunt us.

P.S. our 17th defeat of the season.

Yeah, pity about the Benayoun goal, it was onside. Apart from that though, Liverpool never looked like scoring. Putting Babel on seemed like a step backwards, he just didn't look like he knew what to do with the ball

I have lost patience with Babel. Perhaps we ask to much of him, but he is not the kind of player a top four side can rely on for results on the pitch. He's decent, but not good enough. Nor is N'Gog, for that matter, but that's what we have to work with right now.

He'd be the sort of player that might do better out on loan for a while, give him some regular first team football. Liverpool have a few players like that, unfortunately they're needed in the squad to make up the numbers

Suffice to say, Liverpool are not a top four side. We need better players, better ownership, more money and arguably a better manager. Thats a lot of problems.

All in all though, a pretty cagey round of European semifinals apart from the Inter/Barca tie. the remaining three matches featured all of two goals.

Man City are openly talking of poaching Torres...I hope if Torres goes he goes to Spain or Serie A, not another Premier League club.

Charles N'Zogbia has been arrested after he apparently got someone else to take the theory portion of his driving test. What a fool.

Jaffa Cake - quote - "...Remember – any lip, and the nekkid Phil Brown pictures get posted."

Finally, evidence to end the raging debate 'All over tan, or not?'.:)

Lord Blackadder - Torres - selling him will be bad enough, I can't see them letting him go to another Permier League club. Hard cheese on the disallowed goal.

H00513R - hello. Re Birmingham City, sorry, hoping for an entertaining 0-0

Cheers,
OW

The decision to sell Torres will ultimately be with the Americans though, and if they're looking to get out would they, a) sell him to the highest bidder (i.e. Citeh), or b) keep him as an asset of the club in a hope to get more money for Liverpool?

If Torres goes, he certainly won't go to Real, since he's an ex-Athletico Madrid player. If he went to Spain it would be Barca. If he went to Italy it would probably be one of the Milan teams. Nobody else outside England has the money for him (possibly Bayern? But I can't see him going to the Bundesliga).

I think he'll stay as long as Benitez does, and as long as our form improves. I can't see him staying if we fail to get back in the CL next season. We need to get the team up and running again while Gerrard and Carragher are still in top form. Those two plus Reina and Torres are a world-class skeleton to build a squad around.

If Man City were to get him I think I'd become physically ill.

Zaki's loan spell at Hull City has been ended by Dowie.
