Ha! I guess they are slow to report what's happening on Humberside. :D

Shame that he never made a contribution, she showed good form for Wigan early on.

In more scary football news, defending champs Iraq have been grouped with Iran in the draw for the 2011 Asian Cup...if you thought fan violence in Italy was bad...

Bloody useless Spurs...can't do anyone a decent favor. That said, Utd played well.

Looks like it might be another Utd title after all given the fact that Chelsea still have to face Liverpool...away

Well done Hull City, two seasons in the Prem against the odds and despite all the crap thrown at them by overdog-supporting fans and the press. Hopefully the parachute payments will stabilize the club's finances and Jaffa's boys can get down to the business of winning back promotion in a season or two.

As for United...Ugh. No offense to United fans, but I'm sick, sick, sick of them winning. I couldn't care less.

One of those "hmmm, ugh" days.
0-0 against City (wasn't the best game), Spurs lost to Man Utd, and Hull really are relegated now (sorry Jaffa...)

Me thinks this will the top 4:
1. Chelsea
2. Man Utd
3. Arsenal
4. Man City

... and TBO, I think we have the new big four. I have this feeling Liverpool are a bit in trouble... or will it be the big 5. ;)

Yes it's been quite a roller coaster ride for the last 2 seasons. Let's hope you can do "an Albion" and bounce straight back up.

To be fair I can remember when your team dominated the English (and European) game in just the same way.

The only difference was most of their players had permed hair. :p :D

Sorry for the result today Jaffa, I was hoping you'd stay up.
Thanks chaps. It's funny, but I'm not feeling particularly bad about it. It's a big disappointment and incredibly frustrating of course, but it doesn't feel like previous relegations that I've experienced. We've been chucked out the bottom of better leagues than this. :p

The atmosphere today was incredible, we were standing and singing non-stop for the whole of the second half, both showing support for the boys and telling anyone listening in no uncertain terms where they could stick the Premier League. A show of defiance if you will, and two fingers to anyone who wants to have a smirk about our relegation. I'm actually quite proud of the way the supporters responded – you can take the Premier League patches off our sleeves but we Hull folk are used to a bit of adversity, we just pick ourselves up and get on with it regardless. One thing's for sure though, the press are going to relish this but they're welcome to their glee – we don't give two hoots what they think to us, and they've certainly struggled to say anything of value about us over the past two seasons.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to going to Wigan now. :D

Unfortunately that's unlikely.

We've already taken an advance on our parachute payment, and things are looking a little bleak to say the least. Administration has been suggested by some in the media, however it looks like that isn't going to happen and instead at some point over the next few weeks we're very likely going to enter into a Company Voluntary Arrangement. This differs from administration (as far as I understand it) insofar as the board retain control of the club and the payment of our debts rather than the reins being handed over to a third party administrator, as has happened with Portsmouth for example.

This gives us a degree of control over our affairs (we're not forced into accepting silly offers for our better players, for example) but it's still a poor state of affairs to be in to put it lightly, and under Football League rules we'll suffer the same 10 point deduction next season as if we'd entered administration. One thing's for certain, it's going to be a morbidly interesting summer and basically our priority is to balance the books and begin the slow process of rebuilding. A problem we're going to face so far as our playing staff are concerned is that we have some high wage earners we're going to struggle to shift.

As we've discussed previously, Pearson has laid the blame for our financial straits firmly at the feet of his predecessor Paul Duffen, who responded this week claiming that we enjoy 'one of the lowest squad wage bills in the Premier League and amongst the lowest levels of debt'. Pearson was on the radio post-match sounding very cross to put it mildly, repeating his views on Duffen and inviting him to pop back up to Hull and 'take a look at our bloody balance sheet'.

I don't think he'll be taking Pearson up on the offer, mind.

Who are your highest wage earners? Geovanni and Bullard?

Geovanni is apparently on circa £25,000, while Bullard is on a reported £45,000 a week basic. Their contracts expire in June 2012 and June 2013 respectively, by the way.

Bullard is I believe our highest earner, Stephen Hunt is reckoned to get around £35,000. I would imagine that Vennegoor of Hesselink and Boateng are key earners too along with Bernard Mendy, albeit I suspect towards the Geovanni end of the scale rather than the Bullard.

It's a good job that Duffen stuck firm and insisted on relegation clauses in these contracts. What – you mean he didn't?

Oh.

Did you see that Boateng blamed the famous Half Time team talk for Hull's collapse?

Before my time...I'm a Johnny-come-lately, and don't care who knows it. :)

I will continue to strongly dislike United (along with pretty much everyone except United fans ;) ), but I'll also be the first to admit I support a big club, one of the biggest. They are overdogs in the grand scheme of things (just not right now). If I could do it all over again I would have picked a smaller club to support in Europe, or remained a neutral. But once the choice was made, I decided to stick to it.

Plus, out of the top four, they are due a title. But as someone else pointed out, the landscape of the league has changed. Either we now have a Top Five, or Liverpool is no longer a top four club....

Did you see that Boateng blamed the famous Half Time team talk for Hull's collapse?

Seems an odd thing to blame, all things considered.

Commiserations Jaffa :( I wasn't aware of the financial problems.

Glad I managed to make it up for a game, you can be sure if we cross paths in the Cups next season I'll come and make another visit :)

Columbus finally got revenge on Real Salt Lake last night, we beat the MLS cup winners with a Giullermo Barros Scheletto penalty on a rain-soaked night in Columbus. My brother was there and said Robbie Rogers had a good match, so that bodes well for his quest World Cup berth. A decent 2-0-1 start for Columbus's 2010 campaign.

Chelsea vs Liverpool will have mixed emotions...

Indeed. It's ironic that Manchester United need Liverpool's help to win a title that will drop Liverpool to second place in title count.

On paper, Chelsea should be able to beat us. They are the better team. But, on the day, Liverpool is capable of pulling off a shock result - after all, we beat Man United earlier this season.

I don't want to lose to Chelsea just so we can prevent United from winning the title. I never want to lose, ever. But I CAN say that I would be less upset if Chelsea won it as opposed to United.

I hope the games are played fairly, and I hope Man U doesn't win the title. That's all I can say.

Did you see that Boateng blamed the famous Half Time team talk for Hull's collapse?
Well, he gave a long post-match interview (around 12 minutes in length) in which he was highly critical of Phil Brown's general approach to man management, and the Eastlands team talk was mentioned as part of that...

'After the situation with the team-talk on the pitch at Manchester City, everybody tried to stay together and say that it wasn’t a problem, but it was. After that we found it difficult to have confidence in the manager at the time, Phil Brown.

That killed the confidence of everybody in the team. People will say 'why did you not say anything?' but he was our manager.'

Naturally the media have leapt on this, Sky Sports News have been referring to it throughout the day.

His comments differ from those of a number of players no longer at the club (Dean Windass and Michael Turner, for example) who have stated that this incident had no negative effect. It also ignores the fact that we'd been playing poorly for a good month before Boxing Day 2008.

If Boateng and others were that put out by the teamtalk, then they've had ample opportunity to leave the club and Phil Brown far behind – there have been three transfer windows since then in which players have had the opportunity to ask to be transfer listed, but they're still here – indeed, a number of them have signed lengthy new contracts since then, not really the actions of players desperate to get away. In fact, Boateng himself had the chance to leave when Ipswich came in to get him on loan – Brown was open to the move but Boateng vetoed it. If he was as unhappy as he says then you would have thought he'd have left, unless he's pathologically afraid of Roy Keane which is fully understandable.

Boateng was full of praise for Dowie and the change in atmosphere since he arrived, however his record has been no better than Brown's despite an apparent better style of management and lack of talking to his players on the pitch. If we were cynical we could also suggest that Boateng's praise for Dowie might have something to do with the fact that the Dutchman's contract expires in the summer and he'd like to renew it. But we're not that cynical, so we won't mention it. ;)

Ultimately, Phil Brown's management deficiencies – in terms of his treatment of players, his tactics and selections – are a key reason why we've been relegated. However, Boateng's assertion that a single event that occurred some 18 months ago is the reason for these problems is incredibly tenuous to say the least. Eastlands was a symptom of the problem, not the cause.

Hmmm....think I'd rather be relegated than help Utd win their 19th title....almost

If it's level after 90 minutes, I like to think I could rely on Carragher leathering one past Reina - he does have quite a good record for Utd against Liverpool :D

I wouldn't worry, Manchester United aren't guaranteed to take advantage of a Liverpool victory - Oh Andy 'Andrew' Cole :( Besides, the Liverpool defence didn't look too hot against Burnley, and there's Atletico Madrid to entertain.

Cheers,

My thoughts exactly. United are not guaranteed 6 points in the last two games, and you can see it now, Liverpool hold Chelsea to a 1-1 draw, and United slip up against Stoke or Sunderland to hand Chelsea the title...

You just know that Steve Bruce will make sure that Sunderland are no obstacle to the title. He'll make weird substitutions or play an ineffective formation and Sunderland will capitulate.

I'd love to see it come down to the last match and United hand Chelsea the title by drawing 1-1 with Stoke after Gary Neville heads a Rory Delap throw into his own net in Fergie Time. Couldn't happen to a bigger ****. :D
