I'm still undecided who I want to win the title. However, if Chelsea win at least there'd be less gloating southerners singing 'We are the champions' ;)

Looks like Liverpool are set to "pull an Everton" on Thursday - N'Gog and Kuyt both picked up knocks so we may start our Europa League match on Thursay with no strikers (Babel up top in all likelyhood). If El Nino were starting I'd say we are going to the final for sure, but Gerrard is going to have to carry the squad on his back again.

EDIT: I was reading about Jozy Altidore's little spat with Alan Hutton that earned both players red cards....Steve Bruce really makes it sound like Hutton is such a victim... Maybe he'll think next time before chucking a ball at Jozy.

That being said, I'm disappointed in our (big) boy lashing out like that, it was idiotic. Hull City might be essentially down, but he should still be keeping his head and doing his job. He's still young, hopefully he learns from this.

Altidore has publicly apologised via Twitter...

I'm so sorry about yesterday. Made a stupid, immature and costly mistake. I apologize to hull city and the fans who I let down. I let my emotions get the best of me and lost my composure. Believe it or not this year playing for hull was to date the best trip I've ever been on.

...but it was sheer stupidity, and there was no way he was going to escape a red card. He has shown a tendency to let his temper get the better of him at times, picking up a few yellow cards for petulance, and it's something he needs to sort out. Unfortunately, it's almost certain that the last we see of him in a City shirt is him trudging off down the tunnel in disgrace.

I expect Hutton's red card will be rescinded, his actions were childish but not worthy of a red card.

That's a huge shame. I was very excited to see him in the Premier League, and while I am a bit disappointed in his results he is still developing and showed flashes of great potential. He needs maturity though. Hopefully Bob Bradley will remind him that missing games due to suspension is not good for the upcoming World Cup campaign.

I suppose it depends on the ref's report, but if all he did was throw the ball it sounds like a yellow for unsporting conduct, not a red. If he also used offensive language though, and the ref heard it, it could be a red.

I'd love to see it come down to the last match and United hand Chelsea the title by drawing 1-1 with Stoke after Gary Neville heads a Rory Delap throw into his own net in Fergie Time. Couldn't happen to a bigger ****. :D

Yet how much do you love a guy like Carragher, who is basically the Scouse equivalent to Red Nev? They're both guys that are adored by the fans of their club, but loathed by everyone else.

Nev can be a jackass, but he's our jackass, and a dedicated servant to the club and a real warrior. And I have to say his contributions on the pitch this season far exceeded my expectations. The guy can still play, even if his pace is totally shot.

Sunderland away might be a little tricky, but I don't expect problems against Stoke @ OT, especially if Chelsea could beat them 7-0. However, Man Utd already dropped the title-deciding points by failing to get a win against Blackburn. (Oddly enough, I saw little 8-9 year old boy in San Francisco yesterday wearing a cute little Blackburn kit. Not sure if his parents are fans or if there's a pee-wee league around where they all wear replica kids.)

It was a straight red, so it wasn't for two yellow card offences – it was definitely for the tussle with Altidore.

Anyway, Bruce can keep quiet given that he himself was 'sent off' and had to watch much of the second half from the stands. He was constantly encroaching out of his area, indeed he raced over (well, as much as he can these days given his increasing portliness) to the Altidore-Hutton face off to stick his nose in. The naughty fat-headed chap.

He apologised afterwards, saying...

"I was outside my technical area a few times but, in the grand scheme of things, does it make that much difference that you step out by half a yard?"

Come along, Steve – you wobbled a good 30 yards or so along the touchline to have your say at the double-sending off. :p

As a player, he's the backbone of our defense. That's about all I'm concerned with. I'd probably be cheering on Neville just as much if I was a United fan, even if everyone else in the world couldn't stand the sight of him.

I think I'm justified in being annoyed with Neville - but I won't pretend Liverpool's boys are angels. Gerrard is a diver and a fighter (witness his ridiculous "defense" against a DJ by smashing his face), Mascherano is a loose cannon etc etc.

At least neither of us are trying to defend Joey Barton. :D

I expect United to win out...but the question is, can Chelsea do the same? if they do they have it. But that's a big ask, given this season's inconsistencies. Still, the victory against Stoke shows good form at the moment.

I see shirts/logos in strange places. I just saw a guy with the Besiktas logo on his car up here in Alaska. That ranks as my strangest football-related sighting ever.

Ha! He's lucky Jozy didn't head butt him too, that would have made my day. :D

Fizzoid - got 'The Little Book Of Calm' for Sunday' ?

Cheers,
OW
No, know where I can get a copy urgently, I'm sure I'm going to need it? :)
Seems silly to say it, but I'm glad Palace went into administration, otherwise we'd be down already, and it seems our alleged 'investment' may hang on the fact we stay in the Championship and we really need some sort of investment or we'll simply go backwards again. That said, we do deserve to be relegated though and while I'll be gutted to see us go down, I won't be devestated.

Any predictions on Bayern vs Lyon today?

I believe Bayern will score that precious away goal and go through with a 1-1 tie or 2-1 Lyon win...:D

-J.-

i have my doubts on bayern going through .. not because of the offense but on the defense .. with van buyten being unclear and contento playing bandaged it very likely means today they are running out of options

according to reports in the last training van gaal was training only with 14 players because evrybody else was injured or out

Re: Lyon v Bayern: I am convinced Bayern are going to score an away goal or two, and I'm thinking they will go through on away goals.

But as takao said, Bayern are down to an understrength squad and they've lost Ribery, so they probably won't possess the ball as well as last time. If Lyon can bag a goal or two they will go through.

That's a bit rich coming from a fan of one of the Scouse teams. :p

Heheh. Yeah, it's funny. Out of all of the football podcasts I listen to and newspaper columns I read, Liverpool seems to be either hated or held in contempt. I might go so far as to say they come off as being the most disliked team in the Premier League. People wax lyrical over Torres, but that's about it.

Maybe I gravitate towards them because I come from a rough industrial salt-of-the-earth town myself, and I feel like a kindred spirit. Maybe that will change when I go to Liverpool someday and get mugged. <shrugs>

Funny that Andy Gray was just on spy sports news saying the same thing; if you also get him in Alaska LB then i fear there's nowhere safe from him. :D

The only good thing I can see for Lyon is that they can't possible play any worse than they did last time... or can they?

Nah, it's just that mastering this whole "sports journalism" thing is easier than you might think. You repeat the same few observations over and over and it sounds like analysis. :D

I have to assume Lyon will play more aggressively this time, BUT that's why I think Bayern will score. The key to the match will be whether Lyon can score and maintain their advantage.

There's a Liverpool joke in there somewhere but I just can't put my finger on it. :D

I gotta agree with you there although I do fancy Lyon's left back keeping Robben fairly quiet and have a feeling someone else will "pop up with the goods" (as a certain sports journalist would say)

true especially since for keeping robben in chek you need 2 players at least and thus some space will open up für Müller or Schweinsteiger in the middle

on the left i suspect Panjic jumping in for Ribery for the game
