Poor old Bentley, story of his life so far, but if he keeps the hard work up he just might make it into the top four list of players to get arrested...

Looks like AW is putting it on his players to deliver a title this year:

The team we have now gets there, and by that I mean it wins the championship. At 22 or 23 I think a team is mature enough to deliver and it is a massively important year for our club. I am conscious of that.

I know people have no patience any more but I agreed on a structure at the club that I believed could work, and we are at the period now when we will see whether I was right. To talk of winning the league is an audacious statement but I built this team and I want to deliver.

How are your FF team selections going? Pretty much settled or still tinkering like mad? :)

Adjusted for injuries/viruses and not a Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City player in sight :)

Wenger - five years is a fair amount of time to build a team, I can understand why the natives are getting restless. Arshavin seems more direct, but they need to know when to put the 'Beautiful Football' to one side and stick the boot in.

Not a Gooner but a gonner, Gunn has gone at Norwich.

Cheers,
OW

I've had my 'core' team sorted since the start, but have tweaked the fringe players due to injuries and trying to end up with a small cash reserve for a rainy day.

In other news, it seems that LA Galaxy soccerballer Landon Donovan has contracted swine flu. I do hope he didn't sneeze on Jozy midweek...

I thought I was all set but I thought of something today that caused me to make lots of changes. Can't say what though, got to keep my edge somehow.

From what I've heard, he was actually suffering symptoms during the game...which explains why he was beaten for pace on that last goal.

I'm still recovering from that USA loss, but I'm going to an MLS game tomorrow after watching the prem games on TV - the best cure!

I am jealous!!! that usa loss was horrible, i could tell Mexico had that all important late momentum, and that they were probably going to steal the 3 points. what mls game are you going to?

I'm ready for the season.

Caved and ordered Canal+ yesterday**, the predominately movie channels who also has exclusive right for Premiere League in Norway (and Scandinavia), so now I can see most games live, if I want to... :)

Actually bought it because a) we're not renting or downloading movies (and iTunes music store doesn't have movies in Norway, yet) and b) I'm so effing fed up with commercial breaks - especially in movies - on the "normal" channels that I wanted an ad free option.

And the first goal of the new Premiership season goes to...

Hmm, I've got Cech in goal in my FF team :(

Ooh...nasty looking injury on Marney. When my knee did that I was out for 6 months (and ended up retiring from football all together after trying to play a match again a bit too soon).

Hope his ligaments are stronger than mine was...

This scoreline and second half run of play is too similar to the USA-Mexico game. I hope the Tigers have better luck than we did.

EDIT: Bollocks. Looks like the game is following the USA Mexico script exactly. Bad luck Jaffa...but a solid defensive display overall against a top four side.

I'm not too downhearted. We defended solidly enough, and it certainly wasn't the whitewash folk were predicting (Paul Merson sneeringly predicted a 4-0 thrashing before the match, I hope he didn't have a lot of money on that result given that he likes a flutter :p).

Games like this a potentially dangerous for teams in our position because a heavy defeat or two can cause serious damage to your goal difference, and given how tight it can get at the bottom of the division this can prove potentially damaging. So I'll take a loss by a single goal, and the encouragement of a spirited display ta muchly. I don't think we'll be in the bottom three come the end of the afternoon, for one thing.
