Anyway, League Cup fun with Everton tonight. As my season ticket doesn't cover Cup games I'm going to pay at the gate with the great unwashed. It'll be like a proper little adventure.

Out of interest, how much are they charging for tonights match?

Arsenal only charged a tenner for last nights match against the Baggies while Man Utd are asking the Wolves fans to stump up £41 for a match that is also live on Sky! :eek:

Indeed, I believe the Wolves fans are boycotting that fixture.

It's £15 for grown ups At the KC tonight - however, it's also kids for a quid. Unfortunately though, I'm not a kid and don't have a responsible adult with me...

I heard there was something on Talk Sport about a boycott. Supposedly, the ticket only costs £36, but there's a £5 extra charge for non-members. That's rather convenient for the Glazers, because I doubt that many away fans are Man U members. :rolleyes:

I suppose it all helps to pay off those big loans.

£15 doesn't sound too bad....tonight's CONCACAF Champions League match between Columbus and Cruz Azul is about the same at $25.

Interestingly enough, league games for Columbus are only $20 though, which probably is a factor in the low attendance for the Champions League matches (plus the fact that it's a midweek match). And of course, in the US you can walk right up to the gate on match day and buy a ticket - no buying history required.

£36? Now that's crazy. You can get a $14 ticket to see the Yankees vs the Red Sox in the cheap seats (though prices for the best seats are over $2500), and NFL tickets start in the $45ish range...

Time - if you are worried about being late, better not go to Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea - all topping Manchester United for time added on.

Penalties awarded 1999/2000 to 2008/2009 -

Manchester United = 46

Liverpool = 53

Chelsea = 39

Arsenal = 55

Chelsea put the others to shame with a 94.9% success rate.

No charge for G Neville or Bellamy! Maybe the FA thought Bellamy would use the 'Gerrard Defence'.

Cheers,
OW

Ah, but what do the stats look like for the teams when chasing a result?

It's true that Liverpool have left it late quite a few times in the last couple seasons.

I wonder how the rest of the prem sides compare in terms of time added on.

I can live with £15 - and it's an opportunity to sit in a different part of the ground. I'm still in the East Stand, although the south-east rather than north-east end. I've got a good view of the lads warming up - it's a mix of experience and youth. Ghilas and Vennegoor of Hesselink start up front, I think Jozy is on the bench.

A number were - plenty of boos at half and full time.

As I've said before, the four fixtures after Liverpool are key for me. If we fail to perform adequately in those four matches and we show little or no sign of improvement, at that point there needs to be a frank assessment of where we're going wrong and what needs to be done to rectify it. The manager's position naturally is part of this.

However, at this point we're only six games into the season and some of the knee jerk reactions from some sections of the support aren't helpful in the slightest. Getting rid of a manager is a big decision and a lot of factors have to be taken into account before we arrive at that.

I'd be interested to see how many of those were at Old Trafford, and how many were awarded against the Mancs there ?

Found on a certain cafe culture Manchester United forum - the post was February 2008 -

We won a penalty in a Premier League match at Old Trafford last season, at our first attempt. I don't see why everyone reckons it's so hard.

I can't remember how much injury time was added on, mind. We were battering them for the last ten minutes while Fergie pointed frantically at his wrist, so it can't have been that long. :p

I cant believe it...I drop Titus Bramble from my fantasy squad and then he scores...against Chelsea! :eek:

Shock result for Chelsea.

A game of two halves at Anfield. I thought Hull City were very much in it until Liverpool's third. Geovanni's goal was set up and taken well, Glen Johnson maybe a little at fault? Later in the game it looked like some of the City players had given up though. Steven Hunt looked good, he kept his work rate up until the final whistle and seemed to keep on playing when other players had packed it in. Shame to see Altidore in so late, I think he touched the ball only once. I should also add that Gerard's goal was lucky and Babel's second a complete fluke as Riera's driven shot took a massive deflection off Babel to go in.

Torres is just a monster though...

Definitely a good week to make Torres the captain of my fantasy team. Have Bramble on the bench, but I think he'll end up counting since one of my starters didn't play.

First time Wigan have won against one of the 'big 4'. Only took them 35 attempts.

Upon arriving home (we watched the game on a dubious satellite feed in the pub), I received a phone call from my father (a Chelsea fan) who is currently down in that there London visiting my brother Cheese Cake (a Liverpool fan) so they could both have a good mock. He was however totally unaware of Chelsea's result as they'd been on a boat all afternoon, and I had to put Miss Jaffa Cake on the phone to confirm the scoreline as he thought I was winding him up. :p

Anyway, we move on.

Ha! Sweet revenge. :D

People have made rumblings about calling for Brown's head again, but I don't think it's fair to judge him on performances against Liverpool and Chelsea. Still those matches come at a time when the Tigers really need a result to raise morale, so it's tough.

It was even better when I told him Bramble scored. :p

Indeed, your Lordship – what some people fail to remember is that for teams at our level matches against the big four clubs are opportunities for bonus points, if you would – we don't really expect to get anything out of those games, if we do pick up draw or even a win then it's a bonus. As swiftaw mentioned, his Wigan boys today picked up their first Premier League win against the big four - it took them 35 attempts to register that victory. That's the gulf in class we're dealing with.

Some people though – who may be relatively new to this – will look at us beating Arsenal last season, and picking up draws away at Liverpool and Chelsea, and view those sort of results as the norm. They most certainly aren't. We have to be realistic, and as I've said before it's the next four fixtures that are really going to show us where we're at.

For today, a good first half performance I thought but it all fell apart after the break as Liverpool's class showed through, and they ran rampant. Our first half performance encourages me, the collapse of the second is a concern though. We'll see what Brown can do for the visit of Wigan next Saturday.

Watched the second half of the Fulham - Arsenal match, and it was a good one. RVP's goal was outstanding. Fulham will be disappointed they didn't come away with a better result, they had a lot of good chances. Dempsey and Zamora both had very good chances to equalize.

Yes, even when the big four play each other it seems a draw usually considered good enough, so to expect a bottom half team to draw or win against a big four club, especially away from home, sounds a bit unreasonable.
