And we did get Junior gold this year, in Canada. I think if we took Olympic gold as well, in Canada, you guys would invade or something. :D

I think you may be right, haha :D

Although you beat us fair and square. Man... those two games with Canada and the US were amazing.

It's so sad that it doesn't get better coverage here. Hockey coverage down here is so bad. The channel that *COULD* be playing one or two games a night, is too busy showing bull riding, cage fighting or NBA developmental league games.

That was a wicked series. I wish I could say I enjoyed every minute, but I think I gave birth to puppies when Canada tied it at the end of the game. Again.

Yeah that's a shame they don't show it more. I hope next year when it's hosted in Buffalo it will get the exposure it deserves. I bet there is a huge potential untapped market of hockey fans in the US.

That would be great, but I doubt it. I don't think the fact that the games will be in Buffalo will make NBC or Fox or even ESPN want to cover the tourny.

I watched it on the NHL Network, so it was available to existing hockey fans (or whoever has that channel).

That's where I watched it this year.

And I don't think Fox/ESPN/NBC will even mention the Buffalo tournament is happening, let alone what the scores are.

Sorry, but it bugs the living crap out of me when people say "Farve" instead of "Favre" Sure its pronounced Farve but spell it right please

Anyway. The Blues had a HUGE win last night. Shut out the Maple Leafs 4-0. Too bad Ovechkin & the Capitals are gunna tear them up tonight :( As long as he doesn't get a hat trick I'll be happy. If the Blues can keep it to a small loss I'll be happy, but then, if they win, I'll be ecstatic!

Farve. Farve Farve Farve Farve Farve Farve Farve Farve Farve Farve. Farve.

Farve your Blues.:D

Canucks play their last game tomorrow... They've won 4 and lost 3 on this road trip so far. Which isn't bad. Hopefully Luongo doesn't get hurt. :)

Hey Decrepit
Like I said, the Flyers are on a little bit of a roll.:D Way to go into the break:cool:

Peace

so since all olympic hockey discussion will happen here and not the olympics thread, I have to ask:

did anyone see any part of the Canadian women destruction of Slovakia today? That was just sad.. 18- ZERO??

I'll amend the thread title for now to include Olympic Hockey.:)

I saw the end of the game. Yeah, that was quite the ass whooping. It was classy that they didn't celebrate after each goal once the score got out of hand. They have to keep scoring because if there's a tie in the standings, they determine who advances by the number of goals scored.

The Canadian Women broke their record of 16-0 against Italy in the Turin Olympics. The significance of the 18-0 win over Slovakia is that Slovakia had to qualify for the tourny, and Italy did not (they automatically qualified because they were the host country).

That's a rough loss for Slovakia....

I watched it until it was 9:0, at which point I turned the TV off because it was just boring. I just noticed the final score. Man, that had to be just sad.

Why yes they are. That was a lot more relaxing than the last several games.

Subban looked good for the Habs. And Briere decided to play today, which was nice. Great penalty shot.

It's a shame we waited to get hot until right before two weeks off.

So what are everyone's picks for medals ?

I say

Gold:
Canada

Silver:
Russia

Bronze:
Sweden
We (Fins) just whooped Sweds 7-0 on EHT tournament (was there to watch it, yay!!!), and now we have almost all the greats from NHL, so id say (or wish)

1. Fin/Can
2. Fin/Can
3. Rus (unfortunately, but they are great)

Cant wait for mens hockey to start! The time difference will mess up my head though, but oh well... :)

Mercy rules? Are they any?

Surely???

Nope, no mercy rules:

Goal differential is a tiebreaker in determining placement if two teams are equal in points.

They have to keep trying to score, no matter how ugly the score is.

I don't think that there should be a mercy rule. The players know what they're up against (I doubt that the Slovaks were surprised by the score), and it wouldn't be fair to the ticket holders if a game was ended after 10 minutes.

Besides, the Slovaks had it coming: they beat Bulgaria 82-0 in an Olympic qualifying game in September, 2008. We got your back, Bulgaria.:D

I'm looking forward to a great tournament. We get decent time of day stuff this time around. I'm unemployed, so I get to watch a lot of stuff this year. Otherwise, I'd miss stuff like the USA/Switzerland game tomorrow at 1:00 or 2:00 depending on tape delays and that kind of stuff.

I'm of course cheering for the USA, but as a Flyers/Avs fan, I want the Swedes do do well with Forsberg.

But overall, I want awesome hockey. If USA comes in 8th because everybody else is awesome, ok with me. I'd like Canada to do well at home, but not THAT well. :D If USA could beat them, even if we didn't medal, it would be a great sticking point.

Does anyone know what channel and time the US vs Switzerland mens hockey game is on tomorrow? I'm trying to DVR it, but the NBC website and the U-Verse program guide don't match up and I want to make sure I record the right one.

It's on at 12pm PST (3pm EST). Sorry I don't know what channel it is though

I'm going with Russia,Canada and Sweden. I think Russia has too much firepower:D Who's the starting goalie going to be for the Russians?

Peace

I can agree with this:

Gold: Canada

Silver: Russia

Bronze: Sweden

Well, looks like Luongo is going to get the start in the first game after all. Babcock said that he was planning on splitting the first two games between Brodeur and Luongo anyway, so he decided to let Luongo play in his home arena for the first game. I think it's a good move (give the fans what they want), and I'd bet that Marty has no problem with it.
