IMO, he's acting selfishly and doesn't show that he has any desire to win the Cup. However, you can't really fault the guy for wanting to get as much money as he can. However, you can fault him and his agent for not having the foresight on how such a large contract will affect the rest of the team.

I agree completely. It's just like the people who get mad at CEOs for being paid a huge pile of money. Nobody is ever going to say no.

I keep expecting the Rangers to buy the Islanders, keep players like me on the Isles, making $50K/year, and then just average the two team salaries. :D SEE! We're BOTH under the cap by a good bit...

1. Stupid Flyers.
2. Wow, that was a heck of a game played by Toronto tonight.
3. Craig Anderson in with his 3rd shutout of the Oilers. Wow.
4. Stupid Flyers.

And it's Sunday! Which means I get to see the nationally televised NHL game of the week. I wonder which team they'll televise this week. Surely it won't be the same one as the previous several weeks...

Dude
What can I say about the Flyers, average at best. You can't blame the coach. Look at the roster. They cannot finish period.

Sorry for the rant,I just got finished watching the Caps/Pens game:)

They did this time. Which shocked the hell out of me. Against Brodeur? Really?

But yes, average at best. I've never liked Briere, and to borrow a quote from "The Sting", he's lived up to all of my expectations.

And I have always thought very highly of Gagne, but he's just not cutting it anymore.

I was at the game last night:) The guys that needed to finish DID...And the hit by Carter was legal:D I'm not impressed with Emery or Pronger for that matter:( They started moving there legs in the third period imagine that:D Still too many dumb penalty's

Lucky! The only Flyers game I've ever been to in Philly ended up being a Thrashers game. I've seen them out here in Colorado several times though.

For me, it's still early to judge Emery. He's looked good to me. Leighton has been awesome though.

Pronger is a bum. He's always been a bum. Just another bad trade in our history of picking up big guys that underperform.

I agree, if Scott Stevens can be a hero to the Devils for the same kind of hit, then Carter's hit is fine. The guy he hit said it was just hockey as well. If it had been dirty, I would have expected somebody to take Carter out.

I watched some of this game.....

Yeah, Carter's hit was technically legal, but that doesn't make it a good or necessary hit. Carter didn't need to lay out Salmela like that. From Carter's perspective, it was pretty obvious that Salmela was completely unaware that he was about to get hit. Knowing that, Carter should have let up a little- he could have simply bumped him which would have taken him out of the play. He didn't need to throw his shoulder as hard as he could into Salmela and then raise his arm for that extra little bit of momentum. That was a dangerous hit. And it was pointless- NJ scored on the play anyway.

These players really don't have any respect for each other.

How shocking that it was a Philly player......

Surely
I don't know if you ever played but it called finishing your check.I tell my two sons who play D3 college hockey the same thing. It looked like the damage was done when Samela's head hit the ice. Hockey's a violent game dude. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP...

Carter's a class guy,not a headhunter...

Honestly.... why should it matter if I've played or not? That doesn't make me more or less qualified as a knowledgeable hockey fan.

I know hockey is a violent game, dude. Part of the reason I enjoy hockey so much is because of the big hits. I even enjoy a good scrap (if it's called for). I don't want the NHL to be turned into a non-contact league. I just want the players to actually give a sh*t about each other's lives.

Finishing checks is important. However, if you ask some of the players that used to play, they used to give warnings to the player they were about to hit (if it seemed like it was going to be dangerous), so that he would be ready for it. That wouldn't ruin the hit.... it would ensure that the player about to be hit wouldn't get injured badly. They used to have respect for each other.

Regardless if Carter is a class guy or not, he hit Samela harder than he needed too. He hit him with everything he had. It was perfectly obvious that Samela did not see Carter coming. In that case, Carter should have hit him, but he didn't need to put as much force into that hit.

The hit was technically clean, and I don't think that the league should suspend players based on the outcome of a hit. A clean hit that causes an injury is legal.

And yes, I do think that Samela should have had his head up as well. As soon as you put your head down, you get into trouble.

However, this is about respect.

If these guys don't respect each other, someone is going to get really badly hurt..... or killed.

If you don't have respect for the other players on the ice, then you don't have respect for the Game. That goes for both Carter and Samela.

They may not respect each other as people (or like each other), but I'm sure that they respect each other's abilities and talent. If they didn't, they wouldn't put much effort into preparing to play against each other. Each of them know what the other is capable of on the ice. Part of having respect for other players is being aware of the other players on the ice and what they are capable of.

Plus, I'm sure that they respect each other's lives.

Getting back to Carter and Samela:

Carter should have respected Samela's life, and the fact that Samela was in a vulnerable position.
Samela should have respected his own life, and the fact that he was playing against the Flyers, who are known to be a very physical team with a bad reputation.

Tell that to Scott Stevens when he laid out Eric Lindros in the neutral zone and basically ended his career. And that was a clean hit.

It should indeed be about respecting other people.

The league has decided it doesn't care about dirty hits or repeat offenders. Bertuzzi still gets an NHL paycheck. He shouldn't be allowed to play rec. league in North America. If he still wants to play hockey, go to Germany or something. No spotlight or pay for you.

Carter's hit wasn't necessary, but is normal. This one ended badly. The (non-call) cross check on Ovechkin this weekend could have been really bad.

I will tell you this though. On the Carter hit, when it happened, I yelled at the TV "AND if any NJ fan mouths off about this after venerating Scott Stevens, they can kiss my butt!" Any other team's fans can complain about hits from behind to the head. The Devils don't get that luxury for another 10 years. That length of time increases every time that hit on Lindros gets aired as a highlight.

Stevens played with a lack of respect for the well-being of other players. I remember watching that game when that hit happened. I blame both players for Lindros' injury.

And there is a lack of that in the league these days.

Ha! That's funny...... but Samela (and the rest of the Devils) doesn't deserve the payback for Stevens' behavior. Hmmmm.....maybe someone should hide in Stevens' front yard and bodycheck him into the wall when he comes out of the house.....now that's good payback:D

So I really don't know what to say Surely. I am an honest enough fan to know when he got lucky. While I didnt see the game I followed the live updates from work and on my way home. I then watched the highlights. We did not play well and we only won because of physics and an extremely lucky bounce. The Leafs are improving and we just got lucky. That game should have been 7-3 Leafs and Nabby was the only reason it wasn't so.

I listened to most of that game, and the Leafs played well. It makes me hopeful that the Leafs can actually compete with a team like the Sharks. I'm also happy that the Leafs got Giggy..... hopefully he'll find some of his old Conn Smythe shine, and the Leafs will finally have some consistent goaltending. A team plays differently when they know that they can trust their goalie. The Leafs played like that when Belfour was between the pipes.

Burke is doing what he said he would do: build from the net out. I guess the next step will be to get a proper center to play with Kessel.....

I'm friggin' psyched for the Olympics. Hockey starts next Tuesday!

I'm watching NHL highlights right now.... and holy crap, Steven Stamkos is on fire. 33 goals! Why isn't this guy on Team Canada? Maybe with the Getzlaf injury, they'll name Stamkos to the team. I know he says that he'll be back to playing this week and be ready for the Olympics, but who knows if he'll actually be ready. The way his leg bent was nasty....

Stamkos is scary good. I wish he played somewhere with better coverage. Maybe he'll get lucky and escape the south like Kovalchuk did.

Olympic hockey actually starts on Sunday. The USA Womens team plays China. :) I've seen that in an exhibition form once in Denver. It was a great (but way too small) crowd.

So, rematch between the Devils and Flyers on Wednesday night. We'll see if they go after Carter now that they're at home. I wonder if Cote will get a start, just in case. I really don't like having goons on my team, but this might be one of the nights to have him on the bench.

Now I can just hope that Briere decides to find religion, leave the NHL, and walk away from the contracts so the Flyers can get a real player. Or at least some new nets. MAN I hate Briere.

I can't wait for the Olymipics:D Watch out for team Sweden;) Right now, I'm more into watching college hockey:)

Tonight's Flyers/Devils should be interesting:D

I'm still pissed they let Knuble go:mad:,because Hartnett isn't cutting it:eek:

Peace

Hartnell is a bum. He shouldn't be in the NHL. With his skillset, he should probably be in prison. I miss Hextall, LeClair and Brind'Amour.

I've never been able to get into College Hockey, or any other college sport for that matter. When I've watched it seems like hitting only to hit, not to help the play. It just doesn't work for me.

I have season tickets to a minor-minor league team, and it's a blast. Some of these guys get called up to the AHL when the AHL player gets pulled up to the NHL.

I like the Olympic hockey series. There are a lot of teams that could pull it out. Sweden is excellent. Canada is incredible. The US team is pretty good. But then there's still Russia, the Czechs, the Slovaks, the Fins, etc. LOVE IT!!!

Any time we beat the Dev's is a good thing:D Gagne goal in OT was great:D The Hab's home at home series will be cool too:)

Surely
Who's going to be Team Canada's goalie? Marty been a little shaky lately:eek::D

Peace

It's Marty's job to lose. They'll play him and see how he does, and if he's still shaky, they'll put Luongo in.

Marty will come through.....

Meanwhile Luongo gets a shutout. =)

Gold:Canada
Silver:Russia
Bronze:Sweden

I'd go with that too. Although, I'd like my neighbours to the south to put on a good show... perhaps third. Anything that will help the NHL grow down in the US.

Luongo is so good. As an Avs fan (when I'm not cheering for my hometown Flyers), I see him way too often.

I would of course love for the USA to show well. I don't have high hopes though. The teams ahead of them are just excellent this year.

And we did get Junior gold this year, in Canada. I think if we took Olympic gold as well, in Canada, you guys would invade or something. :D
