I think that it's funny that the local NBC news here in LA just did a whole news story about the Canada/USA game. It's funny because NBC didn't even think that the game was important enough to put on their main channel (they showed it on MSNBC). And it's funny because when the Kings or the Ducks are playing, they show around 2 seconds worth of footage and maybe flash the score on the screen (if they mention them at all).
And the report was by one of their regular reporters, not one of their sports reporters.
She's making it seem like the US just won the most important hockey game ever..... like they just won the Gold. I wouldn't be surprised if some viewers who don't follow the Winter Olympics or hockey (imagine that in SoCal

) think that they won the gold because of the report.
She just said that "33 million people in Canada embrace hockey". I don't think that everyone in Canada is a hockey fan.

EDIT: Now the sports reporter did his report in the sports segment on the same news channel about the game.
He called Ryan Kesler: "Greg Kesler".
