So. Canucks are without a Sedin for a few weeks, Detroit with Franzen... those two missing will hurt their respective clubs a LOT. Not jsut a little, but a LOT. The Canucks don't have nearly enough depth without both the Sedins, and while Detroit has a ton of depth, they've lost their net battler. Franzen could take a beating to ensure the puck got in there.

I also see that Detroit now has Brad May. Way to go Detroit. Let's see if those two (Bertuzzi and May) can egg each other on to break someone else's neck! Asinine.

Not to mention Chicago took Hossa from Detroit for a whopping 12 yr/68 mil deal over the summer. Didn't believe it even when I read it.

Detroit will actually be playable this year, instead of god like as usualy, haha

**** yeah Avalanche! Already looking better than last year! Let's keep healthy and go spank the Leafs tomorrow! :p Sorry, Surely, I just had to.

Well, you certainly spanked us.

McDonald didn't play badly though- I'd say only one of the goals were his fault. Another one went off of Tucker's skate as he was stopping in front of the net, and another bounced off of Komisarek's shoulder.

The Leafs just have no confidence. They're a team defeated. Hopefully the week off they have next week will help them reorganize (yes, a whole week without a game scheduled in an Olympic year- WTF is that about?).

when in the God forsaken hockey world did Darcy, the aggitator little, Tucker become a penalty killer and on the power play line. Did I miss something?
I was at the B's Avs game. the Avs looked really really good.
Excellent puck movement thru nuetral ice, their wings were always in position, seem to always have someone in front of the Bs net, put pressure on the B's Defense (led to 2 goals) in the nuetral zone. drove hard to the net.
The Avs seem to have some great chemistry early on.
The Bs were extremely slow getting to the puck, did not play the man as much as normal, played in front of Rask like it was a pick up game, extremely sloppy with the puck, no outlet passes whatsoever, the power play had decent puck movement but unable to really work it down low. many times there were 3 players in the corner and no one in the slot.
They were making mistakes of a undisciplined team.
Seasons young but seeing the bruins look the same in the last 3 games, Claude needs to get the boys attention.

Go B's

How about that Chicago Edmonton game? I thought it was over after the first. Good for Chicago,

The wings looked horrible against Buffalo.
The schedule has been hard for them I am hoping that a decent homestand will get them back on pace.

The Hossa deal, yikes!!!!!

Hossa has such a presence on the ice, he is wicked

I'm glad that Tucker is doing well with his new team. He was great when he was playing as a Leaf, but it was time for him to move on. Apparently, he was one of the sources of trouble in the dressing room.

Crazy comeback by the Blackhawks, but I think you meant to type Calgary instead of Edmonton. Probably the comeback of the season.

Unfortunately, he won't be on the ice for another few months. I hope that incredibly huge deal pays off for the Blackhawks.

I'm just not a fan of these long-ass contracts. I don't think GM's should sign players for longer than 5 or 6 years. Anything longer seems irresponsible.

Well man, I dunno. Seems that there's some strange things going on. Blues, Blue Jackets, Kings, Avs are all doing pretty well this year. And sometimes it's a lucky bounce is all that it takes to turn a game upside down. The Leafs will win soon, and get their groove. One thing their coach can't doa gain is bench their top two goal scorers. That's no way to boost morale.

The Avs are playing like the old squads of past (Deadmarsh, Drury, Forseberg, Sakic, Foot, Tanguay, etc) finally. I think it's because of the new management, the new kids on the team, and the loss of some worthless bums (Leopold and Arnason). As for Tucker, it's about time he started earning his keep. Last season he was worthless.

I jsut wish they kept Ian Laperriere. He's such a nice guy (met him) and just a great presence for a team. I've seen him get his team back in by goals and fights so many times. I just wish they would have kept him...

Chicago came back from 5-0 to beat the Flames 6-5 the other night. I'm not sure if I've EVER seen a 6 goal come-back game. If I had it's escaped memory but damn, that is impressive!

And the Sabers SPANKED the Redwings last night. They didn't televise the Avs game so I was stuck watching that game, and man did they just light them up.

yes calgary.
The last time that happened Edmonton did it. They were talking about on Versus the other night.

Ian Laperriere what a great player. He surely would have been a very good fit with this years team. Flyers, damn I hate them!!!!

Dallas sure did play a heck of a game last night against the Preds. We had good puck control and got in quick goals. Turco was actually on his game, so that helped alot. Sure was a smack in the face for the Preds beating them a while ago for the home opener.

I am anxious to see Ribeiro start pounding in the goals. He was our goal leader last year, and should expect the same this year, with Morrow up there with him.

I love that Milan Michalek scored a hat trick tonight seemingly in response to the hat trick that Dany Heatley scored last week.

The Leafs played dodgeball in practice today. With tennis balls on the ice. In two teams. Seriously. Hell, if they start winning games, they can play friggin' duck-duck-goose.

*sigh*

I just checked our game against the Bruins (first thing that comes to mind is that Chara fella)......Looks like we aren't doing so great tonight being down 3-0 :(

I dunno if anyone caught the Colorado-Montreal game last night, but what a ****ing joke the officiation was. Check this: On the Habs second goal, the puck had hit the netting above the glass, when it came down, one of the Habs knocked Ryan O'Reilly's stick out of his hand and then they scored. Play should have been called dead.

Then, at the end of the game, the Habs had SEVEN men on the ice. WTF?! I'm not kidding either. Seven guys all in the offensive zone, and none of the refs bothered to call it.

Seems as though someone was getting a little money under the table. Not to mention quite a few extremely soft calls. And all the Frogs started screaming about how the refs screwed their team on "tripping and hooking" calls.

This has to be the 2nd or 3rd game this season that I've seen where Refs are doing a terrible job (league-wide, this was the first in an Avs game).

When will they get some decent officials on the ice?

I didn't see the game, but sometimes, the refs don't see everything. They just can't. That's just the way things go. When you have humans officiating a game, calls can be missed.

BTW, I think that the derogatory term that you used to refer to Quebecers was unnecessary and is totally antiquated.

Interesting how bad officiating is noticed by both sides, isn't it?

The Avs are certainly tearing the league up so far. It's still early though.

Why were there no games scheduled today? Is the NHL really that afraid of the NFL?

There was some good hockey yesterday. I'm really enjoying the NHLHD channel, I was able to watch the Leafs game again- I think it's the third one I've been able to catch this season. And 4pm Pacific is the perfect time to watch hockey...........

I used to ref a mens league.
Even at that level it was exhausting.
it's a tough job and it is difficult to see and call everything.
The reffing is always a complaint. Let the boys play or they're not calling anything.
The call in Montreal was a blantant dumbass missed called.

have you noticed there are a lot of very young refs out there?

Seeing the Avs live there wings positioning is incredible. this allows fast bing bang passes through the nuetral zone. Once the teams catch on to that their advantage will be gone. Give it another month and the Avs wil be cellar dwellers.

Yup, lots of young refs. And a couple more vets are retiring after this season, so there will be even more next season.

I haven't seen enough of the Avs' play to notice that. Good pickup. I'll have to see if I could catch their next game (or at least highlights) to see if I notice. Did you see Duchene's goal yesterday? Yikes.

Teams are still trying to mesh together. 7 to8 games in isn't enough time to provide a good representation of the way a team will play for 82 games. For example, the Rangers had the same record last season that they have now, and look how they ended up.

Honestly, I think everyone underestimated the club (myself included), but the additions of Quincy, Duchene, and O'Reilly are quite noticeable, as is the goal tending from Craig Anderson. They're in a re-building mode, but they've finally got some good defense (getting rid of Leopold was a good start to this), re-signing Hejduk was intelligent, and getting rid of Tyler Arnason was the best thing they've done in a long time. I think the Avs, if they continue their play will make it to the playoffs. How far they'll go, I don't know, but they've been up against tough teams already and have proven that they're finally willing to give it their all, which was not the case last year.

I can understand missed calls, but when two huge things happen RIGHT IN FRONT of at least 1 ref, things like this shouldn't be missed. I've never reffed hockey but I've reffed tournament level paintball and I can say for certain things get missed, but christ, pay a bit more attention.

I am really hoping Ovie gets 50 or more goals in 50 games. He can do it. He's at 9 goals in 8 games. God knows he's the best player on the ice right now, and I'm hoping to see him accomplish this.

Toronto needs to fire their coach or come up with something that will help their team. Whatever they're doing now isn't helping them at all in the slightest.

It's still early in the season and there's still lots to prove. It will be interesting to see which teams are solid this year. I think all of the analysts will be wrong and we'll see some not-so-familiar teams rounding out good overall seasons.

I didn't see the game, so I can't specifically comment on those plays. But, it's possible that what you were able to see on television and on replays wasn't visible to the ref in the heat of the moment. Was it in front of the ref, or in front of the linesman?

In one paragraph you say that the Leafs need to fire their coach, in the next you say it's still early in the season. Does the fact that it's early in the season not apply to the Leafs?

The Leafs do not need to fire Ron Wilson. That's would be a ridiculous knee-jerk reaction to a losing streak. Ron Wilson is a solid coach. I'd sooner have them trade a bunch of guys and send some guys down to the Marlies than fire the coach. Things will come together for them, and by the end of the season, the Leafs will either barely make the playoffs, or they'll barely miss the playoffs. Exactly where I would expect them to be.

For Ron Wilson to bench his top two scorers in a game cos the entire team isn't playing up to par is such a farce that if I were the GM I'd fire his ass the second he told me he was doing it. Change lines up, call up some minors, send some guys down. What he did would be like the Penguins saying "our team has lost 5 straight, so we benched Crosby and Malkin to 'shake things up' and 'send a message.'

Lunacy. That's what that is. If a player isn't playing up to his level, you bench him. You don't make the rest of your team suffer for benching guys who are producing.

And no, it happened in front of 1 Ref and there was 1 linesman opposite of said ref from the play happening when the puck hit the net above the glass and the stick was knocked out of the players hands. This all happening within 5 seconds.

Monkeys? Where?

I respectfully disagree. He had his reasons for benching those two. I still have trust in Wilson's methods. He'll get them out of this rut.

And please don't try to compare Stajan and Hagman to Crosby and Malkin.

Anyway.....

Anyone catch the end to the Canucks/Oilers game? If that puck would have crossed the line half a second earlier, the game would have gone to OT.

Refs

Speaking about refs, I used to ref for a hockey league, and it is very difficult to catch everything. I always had coaches and parents screaming at me.

Did you guys see the hit that Mitchell put on Toews (spelling?) OUCH!!! I felt it when I saw it.

I saw it....BAM! That'll teach Toews for watching his pass instead of watching where he's skating.

Toews missed his second practice today...... hopefully there won't be any long-term issues for him.

As a rec league player... thanks for what you do. Good refs are hard to find, and yeah, you guys put up with a lot. We're so short of refs, we use players from teams who aren't playing to officiate. Not great.

I always appreciated consistency and a ref who wasn't easily swayed by whining players.

Nasty, but clean.

Good young player - hope he comes back strong.

My thoughts exactly, the timing of that pass and Mitchell coming out of the box couldn't have been more perfect for him to lay him out. A split second earlier and I am sure he would have had his head up to avoid him.

No problem, It was always fun to do that because I played in the same association as I would referee for. Nothing better than watching/ref'ing for a sport you love and enjoy and also playing it.

I haven't done the referee'ing part in a while, but my next season will be starting soon...I will be playing for two teams to get double the play during the week. (Just a rec roller hockey league). Ice hockey is way expensive here in Texas where snow does not exist.

LEAFS WIN! LEAFS WIN! Break up the Leafs!

*sigh*

Ahhhh....... finally. Nowhere to go but up, right? Right?!?!?

Now we have 3. Whole. Points.

I hope the Buds can finally pull it together now that they've got their first win under their belt.

I think it's gonna be a loooooooong season.

Yes, littleman23408, Dallas on Wednesday. I hope they can make it two in a row! BTW, Hagman scored a hat trick tonight.
