Yes, littleman23408, Dallas on Wednesday. I hope they can make it two in a row! BTW, Hagman scored a hat trick tonight.

Congrats on the win!

Excellent! I sure hope he gets better and better. Break out and be consistent with points every night he plays.

The Leafs are finally playing well.

They beat the Red Wings tonight 5-1, and they beat the 'Canes last night.... so two wins in a row!

Kessel is already looking good, and he's only been back for a few games. I can't wait until he's got his legs back.

The Monster is just awesome. Some of the saves he made tonight were amazing. This guy is huge and so athletic. I think he's finally starting to get used to NHL hockey.....

I love that the NHL Channel shows the Leafs game every Saturday!

Congrats on the win, especially over those damned 'wings! :)

I hope for a better season for the Leafs. It's just one of those legendary teams you hope to see up there, ya know?

The Avs aren't too shabby themselves, eh? Beating everyone's expectations.

And how about the Kings upending the Pens? Anytime the Pens lose, it's a good night.

Congratulations, I just saw that you won, and knew you would post it here!

Glad the Caps are still doing good without Ovechkin, and Dallas just needs to pick up the pace, to many 1/2 goal games

The Avs are exceeding everyone's expectations. Unbelievable. It would be great if they could keep it up.

Except they lost to the Oilers tonight......

The Caps scored 7 goals without Ovie yesterday!

Hopefully the return of Modano will give the Stars a lift.

Some thoughts on the year so far:

I can honestly say that I and I think every writer or blogger completely and utterly blew their predictions of the Avs; on the flip side I am not at all surprised by the Kings so far this year; they are going to make life for us Sharks Fans very difficult. My Sharks are starting to find their groove and looking good (for now........). Anahiem; well you lose Christina Pronger and Beauchemin and we see that you are really not such a great team.

Chicago is the real deal and has an excellent chance to win their division. The wings will find their wheels and their say in 10th will be very short.

Surely; you and the rest of Leaf Nation have my sympathies; Ron Wilson is a prick and is the reason your team is a mess; please encourage all your fans to make his life miserable so he can realize he is not the greatest coach since Scott Bowman; maybe then he will lower his arrogance and become a decent coach.

As for the Caps; well apparently they can score without Ovie.

All I can say is;
I cannot wait for the Olympics; the hockey is going to be out of this world!

QFT.

Chris Pronger and Dion Phanuef should get married. Couple of low-life goony pricks.

Hopefully the return of Modano will give the Stars a lift.

He's to old, they need to get rid of him, but he will most likely retire here. He gave a sweet pass to Benn the other night, but he (Benn) didn't put the puck in the net.

I hate to say it, as he is a fantastic player, but he's old and all the kids in the NHL these days are just dragging the older veterans out of it. Modano is not even very physical. He can create some plays though. He never even speaks to the fans when he is signing auto graphs...lol

Thats my $.02 on Modano.....:(

I've heard (and can tell) that Wilson is a prick, but he's not going anywhere for a while. Him and Burke are good friends and go way back. However, I don't think that he's the reason the team is a mess. There were a mess before Wilson got here.

The Leafs' record is definitely worse than it should be, but I think they're starting to come around.

Holy crap, I can't wait until February!

GO CANADA!

Wow, has it really been that long since my last post here?!?

Where did all the NHL fans go? :(

I can't believe how bad the Leafs are this year. They just can't finish anything. It's not a lack of effort- they're playing hard. A lot of bad bounces and bad plays. They had 58 shots against the Isles last night! 58! And they still lost 4-3 in OT (TDD, if you're out there somewhere, I'm sure you're happy about that). It seems like they're just aiming for the logo......
Hopefully they'll turn things around and get some W's, but I'm not holding my breath. The only shining lights seem to be Phil Kessel and Jonas Gustavsson.

Lots of good and bad going on in the NHL this month. Way too many injuries, and way too many attempts to injure. It looks like the Sharks top line may be Canada's top line come the Olympics.

Is there anybody out there?

I have watched a number of games and one team stands out to be extremely cheap this year.

The knee to knees can kill a players season. 2 or 5 games suspensions are not going to cut it. I am not a big proponent of suspensions but I am starting to lean towards favoring match injury to suspension for what the league considers attempt to injure or the result of an injure; knee to knee, boarding, hit from behind, elbow to the head and so on.

late hits auto 10 game suspension
attempt to injure with the stick 10 to 20 game suspension
attempt to injure 5 game
result in injury matched suspension to time missed for injury.

There are plenty of opportunity to crush players and keep the physical aspect of the game intact. There isn't room to start having teams missing their keyplayers due to gooning or irresponsibility

I'm out of the country, so I haven't even seen a game yet. I've been somewhat following the Wings, but they haven't been doing so hot.

they have stepped up their game as of late.
puck possession
controlling the neutral zone
center playing d in the high slot for 2 pass breakout
they need to work on body on body in front of their goal.

Yeah, they got off to a rough start, but they are getting there. They'll make the playoffs, but I don't see them in the Cup this year.

Which is the cheap-shot team you're referring to?

Kneeing is inexcusable. Did you see how far Laroque stuck his knee out? Ridiculous.

It just amazes me at how many elbows to the head and hits from behind have happened this year. Do the players really have that little respect for each other?

The player on the receiving end of the hit has to take some responsibility as well though. He has to be aware of where he is on the ice, and WHO from the other team is on the ice. There have been a few hits that led to injury that could have been avoided if the hit player would have had his head up or if didn't turn his back while he was facing the boards.

Never count out the Wings.

Flyers are nothing but classless filth and it start from the top of their organization.
I agree with the pplayer being hit has a responsibility but they can not control the other players knees, elbows and sticks.
In todays game with the speed of the players and the overall game players absolutely can not put themselves square into the boards. Even at the slow games I play in its much easier said than done.

Players have lost the respect. elbows knees and sticks are the beginning.
When the big names start missing quantitive games and tickets sales dwindle maybe buttman will call the owners in for a "WTF over" meeting

I would agree with the Exception of Briere and Lapperriere. The rest are goons. And The FLyers have been that way for a long, long time.

And Laroque is one of the biggest ******* in the NHL. I remember him playing for the Nucks and it was always a pleasure to see someone knock him on his ass.

hey thanks for the redirect to this thread Surely. I have to say I've been quite happy with my isles this year. We had no business winning that game against Toronto the other night. 61 shots...58 saves by Roli. But at this point, some very nice progression by the young guys. If we just had a solid blueline we could really consider playoff's this year. Well hope they beat the Flyers tonight.!

Lets Go Islanders!!

I agree- there's one thing in ensuring that you're in a good position on the ice to take a hit, but elbows, knees, and sticks are another story. I don't think that you can really prepare yourself for an elbow, knee, or high stick.

Ticket sales are already dwindling in certain markets. There are some arenas that are only pulling in 6-8000 per game.

The blame isn't squarely on Bettman here..... the morons at the NHLPA are to blame as well.

No problem nyisles84! Sorry your Isles lost yesterday.... looks like it was a close game though.

As much as I love Ovechkin, what the hell is with him and his propensity to give cheap shots?

Tonight he chose to knee Tim Gleason while playing the Hurricanes. Both Gleason and Ovechkin were injured on the play, and Ovechkin was given a five minute kneeing penalty. Looks like he may be suspended on this one, as he's a repeat offender. Good.

The NHL needs to do what's right and show that it's unacceptable for any player, superstar or thug, to purposely injure another player.

Leafs were shut out against Miller and the Sabres tonight.:(
