As much as I love Ovechkin, what the hell is with him and his propensity to give cheap shots?

Tonight he chose to knee Tim Gleason while playing the Hurricanes. Both Gleason and Ovechkin were injured on the play, and Ovechkin was given a five minute kneeing penalty. Looks like he may be suspended on this one, as he's a repeat offender. Good.

The NHL needs to do what's right and show that it's unacceptable for any player, superstar or thug, to purposely injure another player.



Leafs were shut out against Miller and the Sabres tonight.

I'm not sure if he intentionally caused a knee-on-knee collision. From the replay I saw it looked as if Ovechkin was lining him up for a hit and Gleason moved to his left and Ovechkin made a poor reaction by sticking his knee out there while trying to hit with his shoulder. Hard to say, but you're right, he's probably going to be suspended and it should be enforced.

I see the Leafs are no longer the worst in their conference. Moved up a spot and Carolina is down below. Better keep praying man, I think it's working. And you know hell has frozen over when you've made it a quarter way through a season and Phoenix is in the top 8 in the Western conference.

It's gonna be an odd season for a lot of teams man. I'm still wondering why the Panthers are even still a team anymore. Can't we move them to a place that will love them and give them the money to get a good team goin? When's the last time they were good, 97? 98?

Detroit needed some time to get new players aquainted with their system and to overcome some of the injuries.

The AVs and Blues both have solid teams that were playing mid season hockey at the beginning of the season and the other teams are catching up.

Chicago now has their secret weapon that is sure to make an impact and give their fams a long deserved chance for an excting season and playoff run.

I HATE the schedule and hope Buttman changes it next year. The regional over load is making for soe boring hockey. I want to seethe Bruins play the west coast teams more than once a year. Give us at least a home and an away game.

The chatter on O was always been that he has issued his due of cheap shots but has gotten away with it. Its catching up and tonight the cat was let out of the bag for everyone to see.

The Leafs looked like @s5 tonight. Buffalo seems to hae a little magic going on.

I think the next 3 weeks the separation between playoff teams and cup contenders will start becoming apparent.

I think Bertuzzi has paid his dues for the incident. I thought our culture was about paying your dues and getting a second chance?

Yeah, the Leafs aren't even coming to LA this season. I went to the game last season, it was awesome. The Habs are coming in the new year, and I'll be going to that game.

Yeah, we're at the time of year where the separation will begin. I'm glad that I'm just about to start my month-long break from school (had a crazy intense final exam today), so I'll be able to pay closer attention to more games.

I must say though, Brenden Witt is awesome. From the article:

He's lucky he just played for the Isles. If a citizen of Philadelphia had hit a Rangers player, they'd have backed up to hit him again.

That said, Witt's a tough cookie. I'm glad my Flyers won last night (finally) but it would have been karma if he had the winning goal.

In addition, let's not forget the knee-on-knee hit he made on Sergei Gonchar in the playoffs last season. That was up for debate on whether it was intentional.

So I was looking at the standings today, and HOLY **** the Kings are at the top of the West! That's quite surprising. The Avs are one point behind them! Woot!

Some things I'm finding interesting:

The Thrashers are in the Top 8 in the East. The Rangers and Flyers are not.
The Coyotes and Preds are in the Top 8 in the West. The Wild, Ducks, and Nucks are not.

What a wacky year!

What do you guys think of the "intent to blow whistle" rule on goals? Also, I haven't seen a "Diving" call made YET this season. WTF? Two Seasons ago they were everywhere.

Ok, I would just like to say that Versus and DirecTV need to get their crap together and play nicely.

I can't watch the Pens/Flyers tonight because of their spat. My friends (Pens fans) have kids, so we can't go out to watch the game tonight.

I am a big Flyers fan, but I'd kind of like them to just fire half the team, give up and take the draft pick. I can't stand Briere, Pronger, Hartnell, or half the other goons on the team.

I feel bad for the NHL that the Flyers have fallen apart so badly in time for the outdoor game. It should have been two successful clubs. Now it's Boston and an expensive AHL team.

Agreed. They've got a good core of individual players. Laviolette just needs to find a way to get them to be a team. They are a bunch of cliques right now.

Apparently the main problem is discipline...... a number of the younger players have too much new money and too much fun in Philly and on the road. I've heard that Pronger has attempted to get things in order, but to no avail.

When Laviolette runs drills in practice, he does them with the players.... that's pretty cool....

Briere needs to start playing smarter..... he's taking too many penalties.



I never thought I'd be saying this, but the Leafs are two points out of 8th place in the East. Crazy. 7-3 in the last 10 games.....
And Ottawa just lost Spezza for around 8 weeks, so that could free up one of the 8 top spots....

I've been away, wallowing in shame due to the play of the Flyers. (well that, and moving to a new state) Have you heard anything new?

I'm thinking at some point, we're going to trade the whole team to Kansas City for a bunch of BBQ.
