Poor UGA. :(

I should have known giving you so much crap about those missed field goals would come back to haunt me, I got schooled in the rose bowl TCU proved me wrong about non-bcs schools  glad to see you back man

Heh heh. It still should have been us schooling you. ;)

My regional boss at work is a Oregon alum, and we were talking about the Boise State season and how crazy it is that going 12-1 was such a HUGE disappointment. If there wouldn't have been such high hopes then it wouldn't have been so bad...

But, I still love my Broncos, and I'm really excited to see some of our young guys step up and fill some holes left by graduation. My only "real" concern is our receiving corp. Pettis and Young carried it for two years, and now they're gone. I hope someone steps up. Two years ago no one really knew who Pettis was, so hopefully we can recreate that unexpected surprise. :)

You should have caught the Dawgs last year (like everybody else did)
This coming year you are going to get hit by the freight train as it runs through the SEC
Hate it for ya! Not!
:D

TCU turns down season opening rematch at Wisconsin. Kind of a bummer on one side because if they had elected to play the Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium it would at the least provide credibility to the idea that they relish in their 'soft' schedule. On the other hand it makes complete sense as they are in the their last season before the jump to the Big East and 'rebuilding' with a ton of seniors moving on.

A sad note: Emory Bellard, former Texas A&M and Mississippi State head coach has passed away. His bigger impact overall was that he was the innovator of the wishbone offense. His overall record at MSU may not have been the best, but he did lead the team to its biggest win ever, a 1980 win over #1 Alabama. The Tide had won 26 straight SEC games and 28 games overall when they lost that game. MSU hadn't beaten Alabama since the 50s. Check out this article from one of our local sports writers, written on the 25th anniversary of the win.

The win over Bama was a few years before my time at MSU, but I do remember seeing these "MSU: 6 Bama: 3 I was there!" bumper stickers when I was a kid. Judging by how many of those I saw, I estimated half the state was there for that game. :)

Oh I remember the game vividly, even though I wasn't at it :)
Huge win, and at the time, a Bama loss was a cause for jubilation throughout the SEC land

It also helped the Dawgs to the National Championship that year ;)
That and Ga Tech's tie with Notre Dame as I recall
Along with the Buck Belue to Lindsay Scott win over the Gators
But I digress

Sad news indeed. He was a great coach at A&M who got forced out by some unrealistic alumni who weren't satisfied with the team going 8-4 one year after going 10-6 and finishing 6th in the country. After a 4-0 start to the next season, A&M lost back to back games at the beginning of conference play and Bullard "resigned" as coach. His top assistant, Tom Wilson, took over and led the team to another 8-4 season, but the program completely fell off the map after that. I was a very small child when he left, but looking at that period in our history has always infuriated me.

Sadly, some of the same clowns who forced Bullard out are still running the show behind the curtains; we can thank them for the non-move to the SEC last summer.

Mark Richt is truly a class act.

Georgia may have fallen on some tough times recently, but they need to keep Richt.

No one questions Richt's character or his positive influence on the players, program and community. But the bottom line as Al Davis put it is, "just win baby". The SEC is soooo competitive, and Richt is the dean of SEC coaches I believe with more tenure than any of them. This season is big for them. The Gators are down. The Vols are not a factor. The schedule is the best it will be (No LSU, No Alabama and No Arkansas, South Carolina and Auburn are home games). Murray has a year under him. We have the #1 running back in the country signed. We got the DC his nose tackle from JUCO. New strength and conditioning coach and OL coach. If not now, when?

I am a Richt supporter, but if he has another disaster for a season, being a great guy may not be enough to save him.

Is there a college basketball thread? I tried looking for one but couldn't find it.

What is basketball??

Looks like the Dawg are FINALLY recovering from the hell that was Jim Harrick. They should be a mid-seed in the tournament this year

As you know, I have no love for Auburn... but this is beyond belief to me

Toomer's Corner oaks poisoned with herbicide; unlikely to survive

Excerpt from full article...
AUBURN – Auburn University today confirmed that an herbicide commonly used to kill trees was deliberately applied in lethal amounts to the soil around the Toomer's Corner live oaks on campus, and there is little chance to save the trees. More information and ongoing updates as to treatment and prognosis are available on this site.

The City of Auburn Police Division is investigating the situation, and the application of this herbicide, known as Spike 80DF, or tebuthiuron, is also governed by state agricultural laws and the Environmental Protection Agency. The university does not use Spike herbicide. There is no reason to suspect any human danger from the herbicide, which manufacturer Dow Chemical says should be applied with proper clothing protection; a typical use of the herbicide is to kill trees along fence lines.

The university learned that a caller to The Paul Finebaum Show, a nationally syndicated radio show based in Birmingham, on Jan. 27, claimed he had applied the herbicide. As a precaution, soil samples were taken the next day and sent to the Alabama State Pesticide Residue Laboratory on campus for analysis. Due to a small fire that occurred in the Alabama lab in December, the tests were sent to the lab at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss., to expedite results.

The lowest amount detected was 0.78 parts per million, described by horticulture experts as a "very lethal dose." The highest amount detected was 51 parts per million, or 65 times the lowest dose. Experts believe a normal application by itself would have been enough to kill the trees, which are estimated to be more than 130 years old.

Heh, and Auburn is supposed to be the agriculture school in Alabama. HA-HA! We should have charged them $180k to use our lab. :)

Edit: I just thought about it. What are the poor Auburn people going use to string up all that toilet paper after those trees die off?

Speaking of Auburn...the NCAA is warming up their banhammer as they expand the investigation into Auburn recruiting.

Edit#2: This pic is very wrong, but very funny.

I'm all for inter-collegiate shenanigans, and I'm no hippie, but destroying 130 year old trees goes waaay too far.

Paint/deface a logo, burn some grass. Toilet paper the trees with used toilet paper...

But don't kill something that has been growing for 130 years. There's no humor in that at all.

...and MacDawg, I'm sure Georgia will have a great upcoming season. After all, Va Tech lost their first game and still played in the Orange Bowl. So there's hope for you!

:D:cool::D

At least you won't have to go through your whole season with silly dreams of BCS games dancing in your head this year and have your heart broken at the end of the season again. We will burst that bubble right off so you can go back to blue-land and get on with your season.

To be fair though, Georgia does actually play in a real conference so that probably won't happen. Plus, they will have at least one SEC loss when they lose a Dawg fight. :)
