New coach... same Gators

Florida's Janoris Jenkins cited

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins, who decided to return to school rather than declare for the NFL draft earlier this month, was cited for possession of marijuana over the weekend.

Jenkins' brush with the law is the first under new coach Will Muschamp, who vowed to have players represent the university "the Florida way."

It is Jenkins' second incident with police. He was arrested in May 2009 as well.

Perhaps you conveniently missed the post where I compared the Dawgs' infractions with the Gators. The difference in severity of offense and how they were handled was quite revealing.

In addition, in case you haven't noticed, it is now 2011

As far as BBall is concerned, the Dawgs are on the rise with Fox, while the Gators are on the way down. A 30 foot 3 to tie the game in the first OT and a win in double OT against the Dawgs would have been a travesty over the past few years. But both squads are on the move. They are just going in different directions.

Sorry I have no interest in digging back through pages of this thread to read about Georgia..

And how do you get Florida is on the way down? This is their best team in 3 years..

Five star Ray Drew DE

On ‘Revelation Day,’ Rev. Ray Drew Jr. chooses Georgia

THOMASVILLE – The runaway freight train that has become Georgia’s 2011 recruiting class just added another heavy boxcar Friday morning as Ray Drew committed to the Bulldogs.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive end made the announcement to a gathering of friends, family, faculty, coaches, teammates and media crammed into a large meeting room next to the gymnasium at Thomas County Central.

With his commitment, Drew became the highest-ranking member of the so-called “Dream Team” that UGA has talked about assembling since last summer. He is a consensus five-star prospect, according to the three primary ranking services, and is ranked No. 1 in the nation at his position by Rivals and No. 2 by ESPN. He’s the No. 2-ranked player in the AJC Fab 50.

When it was all said and done, Drew ended up with more than 50 scholarship offers. But he said he chose the Bulldogs over finalists Auburn, LSU, Clemson and Miami — in that order.

WEIRD.

Yeah, that one was really weird. It seems his mom was a fan for some odd reason, and wanted him to go there. Recruiting has gotten insane.

The Dawgs (the real ones) did very well in light of their current state
Ray Drew and Isaiah Crowell should both make a big impact immediately

Mitch Mustain arrested on drug charge

LOS ANGELES -- Former USC quarterback Mitch Mustain was arrested late Tuesday night for a felony narcotics charge on suspicion of selling prescription drugs, Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Bruce Borihanh said.

Mustain was released on $10,000 bail shortly after 6 p.m. PT Wednesday for the felony narcotics charge. The arrest occurred shortly after 8 p.m. PT Tuesday in the San Fernando Valley by the West Valley division of the LAPD, and Mustain was booked at the Van Nuys jail at 10:44 p.m.

Mustain, 22, was preparing for the upcoming NFL draft and had been on campus at USC to work out in the school's athletic facilities late last week. He started only one game in four seasons at USC, a 20-16 home loss to Notre Dame in November, after transferring from Arkansas in 2007.

The Arkansas native was one of the most sought-after high school players in history.

He's set to appear at Van Nuys Municipal Court Feb. 25.

Lane Kiffin is the gift that keeps on giving to the Tennessee Vols

Reports: Vols to be cited for recruiting violations

Former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin is about to become even more unpopular in Knoxville.

The university's football program will be cited by the NCAA for improper recruiting contacts by Volunteer coaches and by hostesses affiliated with the now-defunct Orange Pride program, according to FanHouse. The violations occurred during the tumultuous one-year tenure of Kiffin, who bolted for Southern Cal after the 2009 season.

The Trojans head coach will also be cited by the NCAA for a failure to monitor, as will former assistant quarterbacks coach David Reaves, Kiffin's brother-in-law who's now an assistant at the University of New Mexico, FanHouse reports.

The violations extend beyond the controversial Orange Pride program, disbanded in 2010 in advance of an NCAA investigation into its practices. According to the website, Reaves made improper contact with recruits and instructed the Orange Pride hostesses to build a relationship with top recruits.

The program first attracted scrutiny in December 2009 when the New York Times ran a story detailing Orange Pride's role in recruiting.

Noted NCAA attorney Mark Jones told FanHouse the "failure to monitor allegations are almost always classified as a major violation," but that punishments can vary depending on the severity of the charges.

The investigation into the violations couldn't come at a worse time for Kiffin's old team and current one. USC just served the first of a four-year probation that cost them 30 scholarships over three years. The Trojans will also be prohibited from playing in a bowl game until the 2012 season.

Tennessee, meanwhile, faces NCAA sanctions for admitted violations by its basketball program.

Kiffin, who required a police escort off campus after word leaked that he was taking the USC job, was loathed by Vols fans even before news of the recruiting violations. Fans of the school's football program sought to rename a sewage treatment plant in his honor.

Uga VIII Passes Away

ScreenHunter_01%20Feb.%2004%2017.21.gif

ATHENS -- Uga VIII, the white male English Bulldog mascot of the University of Georgia, passed away early Friday. He had been diagnosed with lymphoma in early January of this year.

No formal funeral ceremony is scheduled.

Born Sept. 12, 2009, Uga VIII had been introduced to the Bulldog Nation Saturday, Oct. 16, during pre-game ceremonies of the Georgia-Vanderbilt game in Sanford Stadium. He served the final six regular season games of 2010.

According to the Frank W. "Sonny" Seiler family, long-time owners of the Bulldog line of mascots, "Russ" will serve again as the interim mascot. Russ served as interim mascot the final two games of 2009 and the first six games of 2010 prior to Uga VIII being introduced. The continuous line of Georgia Bulldog mascots have been owned by the Seiler family for more than 50 years.

Poor puppy :( But if roles were reversed, you would say it was good news..

Totally not true, although I have yet to see a universally beloved gator on the sidelines of games lounging on a bag of ice

I may hate the Gators but would never rejoice over the loss of a mascot

Former Buckeye Schlichter suspect in probe

Excerpt... read the whole article!
Who the hell would give money to Schlichter as an investment opportunity??

Former Ohio State quarterback Art Schlichter, already known as one of the nation's most-notorious compulsive gamblers, is the target of an investigation by local and federal authorities centering on a sports-ticket scheme that has swindled numerous people out of several million dollars, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Sources said Schlichter began soliciting people for money as part of an "investment opportunity" involving brokering and selling tickets for Ohio State football games and other prominent sporting events to various people about two years ago.

The money collected by Schlichter was being used to gamble and make large bets that two sources close to the investigation say exceeded six figures in some cases.
