So many sports teams have been screwed by unscrupulous, incompetent or disinterested owners that you have to approach any big plans with some caution.

General Franco is..... oh wait a minute. Rangers finally got taken over. If I knew they could be bought for £1 I might have put in a bid for them myself. Promises of a £5m spending spree this summer, that'll be one player then?

We once paid £5m for a player, if you can match the price he's yours!

We'll even carry him to Glasgow for you.

The 2009 edition of Man Utd was superior to the current article, while Barca are arguably the same or better. The Spaniards are the better team by some distance and should lift the cup.

As for Wembley, does any team actually feel at home in Wembley? I get the impression from some that the English have yet to truly settle in their own national stadium...

I like the collar on the current one, but the new shirt still looks smart.

Yes, Barca should win the game.. however they are beatable, as we showed - especially over one game. Steve Mclaren actually did a very good blog on the BBC Sport site which I'll try and find in a bit analysing how United could beat Barcelona... saying they need to try and do what we did, press them, stay compact, and try and hit them on the very fast counter, 4 seconds one end to the other - like Arshavin's goal, Bendtner's golden chance at Camp Nou...

Wembley is in London of course, the heartland of Manchester United's support.

I'm sorry, but someone was going to have a cheap pop and make the obvious tired joke. It might as well be me.

Someone had to

Hmm, perhaps it did. West Ham showed a few years ago that crime does indeed pay, since the penalty for playing Tevez was much less painful than relegation. Player registration irregularities are never really adequately punished.

West Ham were fined a rather substantial amount of money though. Seem to remember it added up to c. £25m?

Boy are we pathetic to watch. Zero confidence, playing tippy tappy and running out of ideas, falling over, miscontrols and miskicks...no one looks fired up for this game.

Dreadful. I got up at 6:45 to see a match, but instead I got Manchester United's 19th title party.

Chelsea did not even show up, it isn't even a contest. Bah.

Yup game over for Chelsea and arguably Carlo.

I think Ancelotti should keep his job. Abramovich is following the Real Madrid model, hiring and firing managers at the drop of a hat. He needs to make a choice and stick with it. He's running the club like the corrupt Russian plutocrat that he is, demanding instant results and occasionally (allegedly) meddling with details he should be leaving to subordinates.

All i'll say is: we're Man United and we will win when we want to :p

I'm really hoping Man City get 3rd Place, it would be sweet for the rubbish London clubs to be out of the CL next year.

Man U, Man City + Liverpool to finish 1st, 2nd & 3rd next season, don't care about the rest :)

CHI-CHA-RI-TO! :D :p :D

Now that ManUtd are *this* close to winning the league… time to rest players and start thinking about Barcelona?

You do appear to be the epitome of a modern day United "fan"... show up every now and then after a big win to spout some rubbish, presumably hardly ever go anywhere near Old Trafford (or Manchester?), and now bizarrely, want United's two main traditional rivals in City and Liverpool to do well?!

:( Had a fiver on 2-0 United, Hernandez first goal scorer... there goes £300, thanks fat Frank..

I also dislike him, and, for this weekend, his teammates Walters and van Persie.;):(

Hernandez on too long; needed someone to hold the ball and pass better with about half an hour to go. Not a single bonus point for Park, laughable. And remember, it isn't over.

* Looks back to page 114 *

No Man U fans were posting back then when they had slipped up.
Funny how they all manage to find their way to this thread now.

There are at least a couple of interested parties.

Other matters:

Jack Wilshere; he's an angry elf.

And the big question; will Nile Ranger score?

Cheers,
OW

We're all just front-running glory hunters.

Oh well, I was on page 114 FWLIW, and OW has been ever-present as well.

Anyway, my own alarm bells go off when a United support refers to the club as "Man U". But, XIII, you'll be pleased to know that the majority of BPL newbie followers in America that I'm acquainted with have mostly coalesced around supporting Arsenal.

Hopefully the complete lack of success will soon put them off us! :D Silver lining and all that...

I've been a fan for 25 years, I go to a lot of Home and some away games (when I get the chance). I am from Manchester and I only came on because it's full of you lot who seem to revel in the delight of .... and i'll quote.... "manure's" downfall. So yep, I didn't come here for page 114, but I'll admit Arsenal spanked us last game, but we came back that's what great teams do, they put losses behind them and come back.

Arsenal need to spend BIG next season to be even close to winning anything.

I doubt "manure" is quoted from me.

You must be the only United fan of 25 years, from Manchester, who rather likes Liverpool and Man City!

Personally, I don't think a team which beat the Champions elect last weekend, not to mention Barcelona, needs huge changes.. some changes, certainly, but there are a lot of good things already about this Arsenal team. Finally, talks of spending BIG are irrelevant anyway, as it will never happen... not everyone can afford to go and spend £30 million on Veron whenever they want.

^
Plus spending big doesn't always get you anything...at least not immediately anyway, ask Real Madrid and Man City.

Spending smartly however does. One of the most effective players in their team this season cost them 6m and has effectively helped them to a trophy.

the spending part is too true: just spending big numbers for a big name simply makes no sense if he doesn't fit the team

best 'value' transfer this season IMHO: Dortmund buying midfielder Kagawa from a 2. japanese league team for a whopping 350.000 euros. he fit the team perfectly and scored 8 league and 4 goals in europe in the first season half until he had an injury

sometimes i wonder wether a club like real is actual doing any scouting on their own or if they are just looking who "is popular at the moment": it sure looks like the german league is currently all the rage with real scouts: last year Khedira, and Özil and now defensive midfielder Sahin from champion Dortmund is again confirmed for 10 million through a release clause in his contract: dortmund didn't want to sell him

negative example Wolfsburg: they spent 35 millions in the winter transfer window after the catastrophic first half of the season and now with the last league game coming up they are fighting against regelation (personally i'm hoping for it, because i pretty much prefer having a traditional club like Mönchengladbach up and a VW sponsored "money is everything" club like Wolfsburg go down)

Apologies, I hadn't pegged you as being specifically a Man Utd fan, you seem knowledgeable about all teams and post comments regardless of results.

I have no problem with Man Utd fans (or anybody else for that matter) I just detest it when people post only when they are winning.

* EDIT I've set myself up for a fall haven't I? If Rangers get spanked on Sunday I'd better make sure I show my face in here! ;)

Torres has shown he can do it, Luiz is looking dodgy.

As all have suffered, I prefer a good moan.:)

They and FC Bayern München are the two German clubs I remember from an early age; European Cup.

Want me to quote you?

We also have to face Man Ure next Sunday.

But, that could also spark a revival. A good win at Old Trafford, will kick-start our season.

(Taken from the earlier Football thread....)

I don't hate Man City nor Liverpool, they were our biggest rivals but I don't hate them like many do, and my other half is a city fan.

I do like the north/south divide though; it makes for good competition.
