Well, Hodgson is in then. Now what? I know they stated that "no players are for sale", but I'm sure that if they get strong enough offers for Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano (or anyone else) they will be off. The club needs money badly. We can't afford to refuse.

I think football clubs need to be run like businesses, the problem is many of them aren't and that's why football is in the financial mess it's in. I just think they are trying to run it like the wrong kind of business.

Hicks and Gillette treat Liverpool as a for-profit investment. Their first rule is make money off the club. Keeping the club solvent is a secondary consideration and winning things a distant third.

I suppose every club needs to be run like a business to a certain extent, but a special kind of business. Big profits should not be the primary goal.

Liverpool perhaps? :)

If that was to happen I'd be sick. :(

Seems like a decent choice. How are the fans reacting?
The general mood seems to be cautiously positive. Some folk want a 'bigger name' but quite who they reckon we'd get is another matter.

He's done okay at Leicester under quite tight financial constraints so that's promising, the main concern would be though that Pearson (Adam) doesn't have the best track record when it comes to selecting managers. But we'll see.

Those players are the key to Liverpool's success and in returning to the top 4. Biggest problem will be the fans, I think. They are over expecting and Hodgson' appointment in many ways brings them down to earth and may have them lowering their sights. Strangely enough, I think he will do a lot better there than the Scousers themselves think which is why his appointment is very shrewd.

The upshot of this situation is we will spend the next season talking about "Adam" and "Nigel" in order to keep things straight. :D Here's hoping the Tigers' return campaign in the Championship is a good one.

Our top players certainly have a big effect on our form, but if we can get a huge fee for Torres why keep him? He can't win trophies on his own and we have debt due now. Still, I hope we can deal with the debt without selling players. One thing I think Hodgson will be good at is taking stock of all of our squad/fringe players, developing the ones he thinks are worth it and offloading those he doesn't rate. He managed that very well at Fulham, and I think he will probably be able to create a more efficient squad, given time.

I think the Hodgson appointement is a good one, but unfortunately Liverpool's manager was not the biggest problem. As long as Hicks and Gillette are running things, there will be some trouble.

Much has been made of our finances and whether we'll have any transfer kitty to speak of, but I reckon the new manager will be looking to bring in lots of temporary transfers from other clubs to strengthen our side. After all, "Nigel Pearson' is an anagram of 'Loaning Spree'. :D

A much nicer, if less amusing, sobriquet than Neil Warnock's. ;)

EDIT: Reuters is reporting that Chelski has poached Benayoun from us. :( He was one of our better players over the last couple seasons, excellent work rate, good touch and a decent shot.

For Jaffa...

And badly treated re selection.

Edit - Hull City away - did the designer spill Tipp-Ex on the arm section of their design?

I'm going to see LA Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders FC tomorrow..... First place in the western conference LA Galaxy will try to win it against 7th place Seattle on July 4th....ohh and there will be fireworks.

It's going to be exciting, Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle return from their world cup campaign.

It's gonna be a great match:)

That Hull City away shirt seems to be using the same Adidas template as many of the MLS teams. I don't like the shoulder patch thing.

Interested to see if the Galaxy can maintain the momentum from their strong early season run...Donovan is in top form - but he's been playing nonstop since spring 2009, he might be getting tired by the time the playoffs roll around.

Yep, it's a bog-standard template. I'm not massively taken with it — a bit of black to add some contrast would have been nice, as I think just amber on white looks a little insipid.

It may grow on me, but it's frustrating that we've moved from Umbro just as they're rolling out their rather splendid 'Tailored' range across their club sides. Bah.

I think the arm patches look better when the shirt has a competition patch in place to fill the space, but that's not much good for us replica shirt wearing types.

I've seen worse but I agree with jaffa 100%

Looking forward to this one.

He did well enough to start off with, but then his awesomeness drained away. Of course, it didn't stop the more buffoonish sections of our support spending matches singing for him to be brought on – and when he was subbed on he did bugger all.

Anyway, our abiding memory of him will be this little cutting from XIII and MacsRgr8's soccerball scrapbook... :D

Brazilians just don't do England, do they?

Yes, but English often have Brazilians!:D

Little to look forward to here, no signings for Rangers and we've lost the SPL's greatest career goal scorer (Kris Boyd) to Middlesbrough, which unfortunately is where I'm currently sitting.:( At least I got peace to watch the Holland game, which was ace.

Anybody know where Madjid Bougherra is likely to end up? He had a good game against England, expect him to go to the Championship or maybe Blackpool.

I will be disappointed to see Torres go, but he'd better not go to Chelski or I'll be very cheesed off.

ugh. but everyone goes to chelskie or madrid or arse or manyure or barca.

i'd love to see one quality player go somewhere no one expects and try to shake things up. becks did it and i still admire him for it. ;)

Would he, and do they need him? Anelka's just signed for another year and I don't think Drogba's going anywhere?

Neither of them are particularly young, but they are also both headcases who flip out if they get benched. Who knows? If Torres goes, I hope he joins a club in Spain.
