This is one of those somewhat rare instances where Mourinho got his tactics completely wrong. Barca are just too good to try and counterattack today. He's got Real sitting back and Barca went out and battered them.

What a match that was. I truly envy that Barca team, from defense down to attack they were on a completely different level.

How was the ref's performance? A member of the family has reported he was a homer.

On long/ish unbeaten runs; the problem is when they end there tends to be a disaster area for the next ten games or so. (I see you're crossed fingers Lord Blackadder:))

Carragher; no arms, no use.:D

Cheers,
OW

He's scored more for Spurs than he has for Liverpool

What a glorious week for Spurs fans! Come back to beat Arsenal, demolish Werder Bremen to reach the round of 16 CL knockout stage, then come back to beat Liverpool. It's like I'm floating.

Of course, I know they're in fifth because of an exceptionally good week and a Chelsea match is coming up soon, so I expect to be knocked down a few pegs, but it's nice while it lasts!

I just don't think Spurs can make a real title challenge, especially with van der Vaart out for a bit. You could still finish fourth though I think, which would make Man City look very foolish again, possibly higher if one of the big teams suffer a major slump.

I never dared to imagine a title run. Fourth would be very satisfying, both to finish that high and to be able to bid for more players with CL money.

Decent player that Obinna lad. Easily man of the match. United hammered out of the Carling Cup.

Speaking of the Carling Cup...surely it's now on a silver platter for The Arse to win?

Ha! What a difference a season makes- I think we're gunning for it in all competitions this year, and with a Europa Cup place up for grabs its always worth having as a plan B.

Seriously though, I don't think the squad put out for Spurs is entirely a local thing- breaking our duck would do us a world of good, especially as our invincibles are all but gone and Fab was the last to win something, and that was with Spain... Wigan on the other hand don't look so good for staying up this year.

But yeah, props to the cockney boys- hopefully it'll carry over into the league too and Grant could do with a great result (the league's most underrated manager?) and a great result too for the right thinking peoples of the world:D

Wow, United's second choice XI was pretty shocking. That's the only positive I can take out of the carnage, really: none of the guys who played tonight are currently first-choice starters in the Premiership or the Champions League at the moment, and that includes Darren Fletcher, whose form has fallen off a cliff this season. Thankfully Carrick has started playing decently again so he's being covered for, but Fletch has to turn it around ASAP.

I have to say the biggest disappointment is Jonny Evans. Sure, he's been hamstrung by injuries the past season and a half, and he's still only in his early 20s, but if you're a top defender you're not going to get murked by Carlton Cole twice. Chris Smalling is doing a much better job at the moment.

Go Spector!

He's had a spotty career in the USA squad, his inconsistency is his biggest enemy. But he's pulled out a big performance today. Well done. :)

The loss for United just goes to show that their bench is not as deep as it once was. Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are all in a similar boat re: squad depth. Only Man City and perhaps Spurs seem to have real depth, even if their first XI might not be as good as United or Chelsea's.

'Spector Haunts United' :( ; didn't get the paper today and I'm not going with 'Hammered!'

O'Shea; how did you stay on the pitch:confused: Got your contract and your done?

Evans; toughen up, and concentrate - the world already has Titus Bramble.

Giggs and Fletcher; luckily for you there was O'Shea.

Da Silvas; the Carragher DVD was how not to defend!

Team selection; fine Manchester United.

Goes away muttering something about Mickey Mouse cup...:)

Think I still agree with this - I can't get excited about winning the Carling Cup, it's just a bit meh.

I bet he would change his tone if he actually won it and now that it is this close to his grasp.

I don't particularly think so. It's interesting how people are saying he is taking it more seriously this year.. I think we just have a bigger squad. We made 9 changes from the team which started at Villa last night, with Fabianski, Squillaci, Sagna, Clichy, Song, Nasri, Arshavin, Rosicky and Chamakh all rested.

Rumor has it that Tottenham hero/Liverpool flop/Tottenham flop/Republic of Ireland regular Robbie Keane is eyeing a move to MLS.

It would be neat to have a player who played for both Liverpool and Columbus, but we already have a younger Robbie. :D

Fixed that for you ;) Actually with 16 goals he was bloody annoying!

All football this weekend has been canceled well in advance. Apparently snow in December caught them all by surprise. That will give Aberdeen a bit of breathing space after Mark McGee, who received the full backing of the board three weeks ago, became the first SPL manager to be sacked this season.

Has to be the most bread and butter fixture for Wenger; Ipswich...and the second leg is at the Emirates.

Yet i still have this nagging feeling something will go wrong. If Arsenal somehow manage to cock up, then for the love of all things sacred let West Ham win it PLEASE.

True. It may be a mickey mouse cup but i know winning it will bring an overall morale/confidence boost to the squad and make them believe they can win stuff going forward.

As a quick offseason MLS note, the expansion draft has taken place, that lovely system wherby every existing team has to earmark some of their players for theft by the incoming expansion teams (in this case Vancouver and Portland).

Columbus are well and truly in a rebuilding stage. We've lost 9 players already, four of them regular starters, and several impact subs. Uncertain times at Crew stadium.

I have a good friend, a Gunners supporter, who is set to get an awful lot of flak from me if they do win the Carling Cup, a competition he has been pooh-poohing for years. :D
