Just watching MOTD...poor Liverpool but shambolic defending that

And Gerrard even blew a penalty. Wow.

Of course they'll get all fired up for their FA Cup match this weekend and undoubtedly put on their most inspired performance of the year, just you wait. I guess the question is which manager will lead them.

I knew Chelsea would not sustain their torrid early season pace, but didn't think they would fall off a cliff quite so badly. Partly blame the sacking of Wilkins, mostly blame injuries and a surprisingly thin squad.

Pretty much a perfect day of results for United, save for loanees Cleverley and Welbeck getting injured. I was really hoping Clev would be recalled back to Old Trafford and get some time in the United midfield. So much for that.

No chance, we'll lose, and I expect Hodgson to be there to preside. If we raise our game and play well, the loss will be to a typical Fergie-time winner. But if we play like we did today it will be utter humiliation.

He's not coming this year. He's taking a break from football since he's been playing non stop for nearly two years with no break.

That's a shame. Lots of draws in Everton's results which would be wins with a player like Donovan.

On a lighter blue note, fancy spending a billion pounds on a club and players and watching them play like Man City just did. You'd want your money back, wouldn't you?

Assuming United and everyone else competing win their games in hand they (United) would be 8 pts clear of City and 7pts of the Gunners (assuming they also win).

Also was i the only one who felt sorry for Ancelotti having to concede the title? they would be 12pts behind

Except Man Utd's game in hand is the postponed one against Chelsea, so not everybody can win their games in hands. One of those two has to lose, or both draw.

My gooner friend is not happy either, after a typically dominant-but-ultimately-futile performance by Arsenal. But I can't imagine that Man City fans like what they see right now.

I was under the weather and slept through the Old Firm Ne'erday (as I'm contractually obliged to spell it) game. Probably just as well. But I would actually like to say thanks to the Celtic fans who were apparently impeccable during the minutes silence. I don't like those minute of applause they do but when you've got 60,000 and total silence it only takes one nutter.

Hearts are going well just now, hope they can maintain it.

1 Celtic 19 45
2 Rangers 17 41
3 Hearts 19 39

Finally! I expected to see him at Burnley to be honest as they seem more likely to get into the PL than Preston
When Brown took over here (December 2006) we were in the Championship relegation places, five points from safety (Preston are currently six). We were promoted to the Premier League the following season. Don't count Brown out yet.

In fact, I'm sure he's already telling his new charges that they need to look at the positives and step up to the plate every time they cross the white line, even if they don't get the rub of the green...

Thing is, Burnley were there last season with what's essentially the same team, so you'd presume they could do it again. Infact, I honestly believe if Owen Coyle had stuck it out at Burnley he'd have kept them in the Premiership, where as they were always doomed once they appointed Laws

Beckham's sojourn in MLS has taught Americans that he is a largely washed-up player propped up by a LOT of marketing. His presence at a club for only two months may raise their profile, but not their game.

Absolutely, what he's done for Galaxy is really bad... i'm not surprised Lalas is questioning him.

Fact is Beckham moved to MLS as a last-ditch attempt to stay in football probably because Vicky wanted to be in LA  but his career isn't quite over and he's regretting moving from Europe. BUT he signed a contract and sold him self to the fans and the club..... he should respect the money they've dropped for him and play like a man instead of being idiot.

Anyway...

Great result for us yesterday... were playing ***** but still getting there :D

Woy can sleep a little more soundly. :D I'm particularly amused that Darren Ferguson was replaced by a widely-mocked manager who is nevertheless clearly better at his job. Eat that, Lord Ferg.

They'd certainly have stood a better chance – appointing Pissy Pants is never the right choice.

Pardon my ignorance, but where dids Laws acquire this hilarious epithet? I love it.

I wonder if Fergie will send his players back to Preston now, given that he has a good relationship with Brown? :p

He admitted in an interview several years ago that prior to a Wembley final (this would have been in his days playing for Forest) he was so nervous that he wet himself in the dressing room. The great buffoon.

Actually, this answers Fizzoid's earlier question of why Brown didn't take over the Burnley managerial hotseat vacated by Laws – it's damp, stained and smells a bit odd. Heh.

 Indeed. Well, that says just about all I need to know about Brian Laws. Yikes.

It's a bit of a cliche that Becks is a dedicated player and a serious professional. But I'm openly questioning that now. There is no doubt in my mind that he keeps himself in good shape, trains hard, and generally gives a 100% performance on the pitch. That isn't the problem. The problem is that Beckham plays by his own rules, and hasn't taken MLS seriously.

Now, most players are mercenaries, I don't mind that, but Beckham simply has not taken MLS or his Galaxy contract remotely seriously. We changed our wage structure just for him and are paying him an awful lot of money. In return, he's turned out for less than half of the games he was eligible to play for, and has tried to live a triple life by moonlighting for England and Milan on the side. What other player would be able to get away with these sorts of shenanigans? Beckham's an overrated player well past his prime, and England still have stars in their eyes over the man. I'm finished with him, and many MLS fans feel the same. His ambassadorial impact on the game here is a fraction of what it could have been had he really taken MLS seriously. Instead he prefers to be trotted out in high-profile European cameos that are nothing but marketing for the one thing is loyal to: himself. Instead of raising the profile of the league, he's merely reenforced stereotypes that its detractors like to use.

A lot of people abroad don't take our league at all seriously, and Beckham, by his behavior, seems to agree with them. Fine. Call MLS a Mickey Mouse league if you want, I couldn't care less. But if you are going to take our money (and be paid 4-5 times what the next highest player in the league earns) you'd damned well better take it seriously. That is the problem.

Oh, there's plenty more, just don't upset him like Ivano Bonetti did!

As for Beckham, whatever the reason he went to the MLS for (Holywood lifestyle, 'orders' from 'er indoors' or to genuinely try and help the MLS go global I don't know but he obviously (wrongly) thought he'd still be in the England setup and that playing in the US wouldn't affect that. He does seem passionate about playing for England, if only we had more players like that. Yes, he's past it, he has been for some time, certainly as a first team player, but I do feel he can offer something as a squad player.

Edit: It seems the cull continues

Edit2: It seems Roy Hodgson has found some new signings

Jeez, quite the loose cannon. I'll wager he wet himself when he realized what he had done...

My understanding is that Becks only moved to Galaxy because he thought he would no longer be selected for England. When that proved not to be the case, all of the plans Galaxy made for him flew straight out the window, and MLS became engaged in a frantic struggle to salvage something from their very expensive deal.

I agree, he still has something to offer, probably even at the national level, but he's still a shadow of his former self and he is being selfish in the way he is treating his MLS contract. If it was a matter of playing for just the Galaxy and England, that's fine. But Capello has said that's not good enough, and wants him playing in Europe. If that's the case, I don't want him here for the few games he'll actually show up for, he's wasting MLS's money.

Shame about Roy Keane. He's such an entertainingly mean person. I am still laughing at the way he called Jack "I am Satan" Warner a clown and a disgrace.

In some rather pleasing news, Big Vito is returning to the East Riding after we agreed a deal with Arsenal to keep him until the end of the season.

As well as being a good player who'll enhance the team, I also think the fact that they were happy to send back one of their recently injured young players somewhat exonerates us following Hodgson's recent diatribe about how we look after our loan players.

Keano for the Liverpool job. He'd sort you out. ;)

Oh, leave poor Woy alone. He's under a lot of pressure these days, I'm sure he didn't mean it. ;) Too bad for Guzan. I think Arsene is only doing this to ensure that Arsenal don't accidentaly get a good keeper between the sticks, as per his usual policy.

Yes, just what we need...another ex-United player-turned-manager who will obligingly drop his pants and bend over every time ManU rolls into town. No thank you. :D

EDIT: Reports say Edin Džeko has indeed signed for Man City, though we won't see him in action for another week. His goalscoring record in Germany is excellent, I expect him to make a difference for City and send at least one of Santa Cruz, Jo or Adebayor packing. If Mancini can bring himself to play two strikers at the same time, a Džeko-Tevz pairing sounds pretty tasty.
