Carroll officially a Liverpool player and their new number 9 Sky Sports has confirmed. Also Torres and Luiz are now Chelsea players.

'Arry Redknapp made a side bid for Adam but finalise on time.

Mad day...£210+m spent in one month. Wenger, as is often the case, was no where to be found...*sigh*

So it's official - from now on the media will be referring to "Liverpool's £35 million man Andy Carroll". Either a smart and necessary move or the biggest flop transfer in English football history. Time will tell.

From a financial perspective and with a glance at Arsenal's finances it's hard to blame Wenger, since they are quite profitable.

But they aren't winning anything, either.

K-RAZY transfer day! Shocking seeeens.

Cheeky Charlie Adam bid from everyone's favourite wheeler dealer.

Arsenal... what did you expect, or even want? The hope is Vermaelen will be back in 4 weeksish after his little surgery, then we will hopefully have 4 centre backs.. do people really think that's a situation where we should spend a lot on a defender?! Goalkeeping situation seems to be brightening up if Sczensny can carry on as he's started, and surely no one thinks we need any more midfielders, or even strikers?! Our squad is looking pretty good right now.. touch wood it stays that way. We're in all four competitions, and second in the league. Something's working!

All joking aside, I do have to agree with you XIII. Arsenal's squad is about as close to full strength as they have been in a long time, and more or less on-form to boot. I can't see where Arsenal would absolutely need to spend money right now.

Have not seen it listed on the BBC Sport site, but according to @FulhamFC, they have loaned out US striker Eddie Johnson to Preston North End until the end of the season.

edit: It is listed here

I just don't rate Squillaci and think he needs to be replaced. We have lost seven out of eight games in which Squillaci and Koscielny have been our centre backs. We don't even even have to spend a lot just get a decent defender in.

Even when Vermaelen makes it back he might need time to find his feet again. Squillaci is a liability as i've mentioned and Djourou/Kos can't play every single game.

If I had to pick a weakness, it would be goalkeeper. Sczensny has been OK, but as yet still unproven. If he keeps playing the way he has of late he may prove to be a long-term solution.

Poor Eddie Johnson...so far in Europe his goals-per-games ratio is something like 1 in 10.

I've given up hope on Wenger buying a goalie, he'll just say 'We have 4 goalkeepers, 1 out on loan and all have been very good for us'

I'm just glad Flapianski and Szes have been overall decent and have shown potential.

Interesting tidbit about the Adams to Spurs story, from Sky via the BBC transfer day minute-by-minute.

BBC said:
Harry Redknapp confirms to Sky Sports News that Tottenham made a bid - that was accepted - for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam late in the day, but that the deal fell through because "a couple of Blackpool shareholders" just failed to get the necessary signatures on the paperwork in time. So near. So far. So Tottenham.

I assume that means 'Arry had met Blackpool's 12-14 million pound valuation. Ooof.

Eddie Johnson clearly needs games, and he'll never get that in the Premiership because he's not good enough. It's also questionable if he's good enough for the Championship.

Gerrard Houllier explains how easy it is to be a football scout when discussing bringing in Michael Bradley on loan from Gladbach:

Gerrard Houllier said:
Michael is 23 and is a very hard-working midfielder who can score goals and is versatile," said Houllier. "I saw him play four times in the World Cup last summer so, in terms of scouting, you cannot say the work has not been done because I saw him just a few months ago.

Heck, if that's all it takes I could have written him a scouting report from the pub. :D

Eddie Johnson clearly needs games, and he'll never get that in the Premiership because he's not good enough. It's also questionable if he's good enough for the Championship.

I'm afraid that might be true. He's shown flashes of promise, but he's never been consistent. He might be best served with a move back to MLS.

LOL at 'Arry placing a bid on Adam. Don't Spurs have a billion midfielders already? Almost as many midfielders as City's got strikers.

Edit: Speaking of Americans, Jozy Altidore is going on loan to Turkish side Bursaspor for six months. If only he went out on loan to them at the start of the season he could have seen some Champions League action. Their fans really impressed me with how they kept single full-throat even when United were battering them. Hope Jozy gets a fair chance there.

Torres is relishing the responsibility of testing himself alongside Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka

They all say something like this, don't they. And then by the middle of next season it's "I want more appearances or I'm leaving."

Prsonally, I think the small players are the ones who scarper to a big rich club to win stuff. The big players stay where they are to try and make the club they're already at big. Gerrard, Fabregas.

If that's the case and they fluffed around with both Liverpool's and Spurs' offers, then I mentioned before that I reckon Adam has a case to sue Blackpool now for lost potential income and liveihood because Holloway publicly said they were not answering their phones on purpose. If I was Adam and learned that sort of amateur tomfoolery cost me signing a contract for an extra £50,000 a week, I'd be mighty annoyed at the club right now. Blackpool did no act responsibly or in the interest of the player in this case, and admitted as much, so are liable I reckon.

He's a better player than the once-vaunted Freddy Adu, but Turkey is not a step up for him. It's a decent league, and well-supported, but I would have liked to see him go to the Eredivisie, Ligue 1 or even the Bundesliga. Still, if he gets playing time it will serve it's purpose.

From a disgruntled Scouser on the Torres move:

Ouch. Seems likely enough though, eh?

You certainly wouldn't find Gerrard or Fabregas angling for moves to more successful clubs... ;)

Maybe they will, but I suspect they are more sensible enough to regard any such move as giving up and failure - if you can't beat em, join em is the age-old slogan of failure.

Adams is still under contract to the club so Blackpool are under no obligation to do anything to ensure the player gets his "extra £50,000 a week".

Spurs met their asking price. Deal done. Adam on higher wages at a bigger club. But oh noes, they decided to sacrifice Adam's higher wages and to keep him by playing silly buggers instead by hiding behind the couch and pretend nobody was home until 11pm, rather than honour the deal.

And then Holloway goes and tells everybody what they did. What morans. I lost all respect for Blackpool as a professional outfit yesterday. So did Harry I think.

I suspect that Holloway shouldn't be taken too literally when he says that Blackpool turned their phones off. For one thing, it would be hard for them to acquire players themselves if they were shut off from the outside world, and they managed to sign Andy Reid and James Beattie without any problem.

A deal for Adam was indeed struck with Spurs but – as sometimes happens – things couldn't be finalised before the deadline. This wasn't Blackpool holding out, they agreed the fee and both clubs were happy – however a couple of Spurs shareholders needed to give their agreement but were uncontactable before the deadline. If it's anyone's fault for this particular deal failing, it's Spurs for not ensuring that the people needed to finalise deals were available to do just that.

By Jaffa Cake - "...Good to see him signed up, the word is we're also trying to get Corry Evans signed permanently too..."

Hands off!
Fret not, the club have put a post-Transfer Deadline statement out saying that although we put in a bid for Evans it was rejected by United. It also confirmed that we paid £300,000 for Stewart's signature, so my contact was right on that front. ;)

I can hear the dull sound of an epic Anelka sulk beginning as we speak. This seems to indicate that Drogba will be Torres' partner. ;)
Well, rumour has it this could be Drogba's final season. He's not exactly been setting the PL on fire this season, although I take some of the blame for that by sticking with him in my FF team :p

From a disgruntled Scouser on the Torres move:
I hope John Terry sleeps with your wife!
It's probably written into his contract ;)
