Okay, what would be a good result for The Arsenal in the lunchtime derby. I'm thinking a draw will be best. 1:1 would keep City lagging behind them, while it would still put the Gunners' destiny in their own hands by not having to rely on other teams beating United in order to win the title.

Assuming Arsenal win themselves of course, can Wolves take two big scalps in a row? Nah..

Edit - Why is it every time United's season looks done, an individual player who has an otherwise uninspiring game suddenly decides to earn his £250,000 a week and turn on some individual magic for 1.5 seconds and score the goal of the decade? Feck I hate that. Giggs against Arsenal in the FA semi... this one...

Meireles 5 goals from 6 games now. Phenomenal change of form under Dalglish. I'd wager he's now the most prolific scoring midfielder in the world right now, when a month ago he hadn't scored a single goal at all. Who's got him in their FF team?

That Rooney goal was a really bad result for City. Now both Spurs and Chelsea can overtake them if both win their two games in hand so City could miss out on the CL spot again.

Very happy with the result today, Djourou and Song make such a difference to our defence.

And thanks Mick  ....

"There was a murder going on. They have murdered us today - all over the park, from 1 to 11, they were better than us, stronger than us and quicker than us. I have to admire their class and the way they play. We were spanked."

Outstanding goal, you don't get many of them in a career, the cross was hanging in the air just begging for something special.:)

Looks like it took a little deflection right after Nani struck it, it kind of veered off course a bit and hung in the air longer. Rooney somehow had time to adjust and meet the ball... I wasn't sure he would top that famous strike against Newcastle but he sure did today.

Have to say Smalling looked excellent out there today again. That turned out to be a hugely important signing.

Good news for Arsenal with Barcelona slumping in form... after 16 league wins in a row, they finally drew one.. goal difference over those matches: 58 to 8... *gulp*

Messi is in fine form, which is actually a good sign. He pulled a Rooney/Giggs last time when he wasn't in form but decided the match against Arsenal was when he would suddenly earn his entire year's salary in 90 minutes - Messi 4-1 Arsenal. So hopefully being in fine form all season this time means he won't feel he has to prove anything against Arsenal... clutching at straws here..

Edit - forgot Bendtner put one past them in the Nou Camp (I wrote Bernabau sorry). I also recall Walcott put the frighteners up Barca when he came on and those two old farts at the back Nelson Piquet and Alison Poyet couldn't match his speed. Ended up both getting suspended for the return leg, didn't they? I can't remember. Have we been seeing some Bendtner/Walcott pairing in the last few matches in preparation for this one? Arsharvin, Fabregas, van Persie all fit too. And Chamakh too, but he hasn't quite set the scene on fire. It'll be interesting to see Wenger's starting lineup.

I'll save you worrying and tell you Wenger's starting lineup now ;)

Szceszny

Clichy - Koscielny - Djourou - Sagna

Song - Wilshere

Arshavin - Fabregas - Walcott

van Persie

This game is easy! :D Nasri apparently has a slight chance of making this one too, which is a surprise.. surely he won't be fit enough to start though.

They were probably weighed down by all their medals. ;)

Meanwhile, word is that Ronaldo (the bucktoothed Brazilian, not the greasy haired Portuguese fop) is going to be announcing his retirement shortly...

Where's Diaby? I'd personally rather one of the other fit players than a still semi-injured Nasri.

I'm no manager, but against Barca I'd start Bendtner in place of van Persie. More to assist Walcott as well as playing as a poacher. His defence-splitting through-ball to Walcott last year was sublime.

My prediction which I mentiond at the beginning of the season - Arsenal to win, not because of football, but because they've finally gone back to white sleeves. Something about order being restored to the universe. The return of the Force and suchlike.. ;)

Goes to show the depth of Barca that neither of those guys, or even Ibrahimovic who scored both goals in the first leg, even played in the second leg and they still flogged Arsenal. Shut Messi down and they've still got Iniesta and Villa... This year they've flogged Real 5-0 already, and that's with Mourinho as Madrid's manager. I reiterate - *gulp*. Should be a good game. Exactly the same as last time too, the home leg first up.

Some positive news about the Barca v Arsenal match though is that it looks like Bale is out so Milan should hand Spurs their arses back to them on a stick. :p

Diaby is injured I think, and also rightly less preferred to Song anyway. I made a mistake - Sagna is suspended, so Eboue will start at right back. Surely you don't believe Bendtner should start a game like this?! I like him a lot, but van Persie is a different class....

Seriously, Sunday night Match Of The Day sucks compared to Saturday night's. I don't know the name of the host but he's an annoying git, Gary Lineker should do both nights.

I wish they had played Bendtner instead of van Persie on Saturday. :(

Haha, we played well Saturday. It's not games away to top 4 teams which are going to decide your season though.. I still think you'll have enough to stay up.

Colin Murray. He's better than Adrian Chiles. I did some radio show thing on 5 Live with him, he came across very well.. hugely knowledgeable, and funny. I could see how he was annoying last night though.

XIII – the best away ground I've been to is definitely Bridlington Town's Queensgate, where you can stand behind the goal and have a chat with the opposition supporters with a pint in your hand. :)
Unless Gav Kelly is in goal, and you end up spending time chatting to him while he's got a pint in his hand ;)

Lineacre, Shearer, Hansen and the other one shouldn't be anywhere near MOTD, let alone MOTD2.

Poor performances by Giggs and Scholes, and more Nani waste. Didn't think I'd see a midfield do less work, then I watched Bolton Wanderers v Everton.

Calling takao - from a Wolverhampton Wanderers forum thread re offside:

"I can't remember who it is but there's a team in the Bundesliga that have scored a few goals this season doing just that.

The goal scorer is a good 10 yards ahead of the last defender, ball goes to a wide player or another player running on to the ball, the ball then goes to the scorer who was in a grossly offside position."

Any idea who the team is?

Cheers,
OW

i think it might be reference to the HSV with van Nistelrooy scoring 2-3 such goals from a former 'passive' offside

http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/12/15/offside-goal/

actually if you watch in some countries passive offside tactics or passive offside baiting has already become a very popular especially at set pieces: wether it's just a lone player standing in passive offside to confuse defenders or the very italian 6-7 players run away from the goal from an offside position while 1-3 players run towards it on a free kick

Torres starts alongside Anelka for Chelsea, with Drogba on the bench. Something tells me we won't be seeing that Torres/Drogba/Anelka formation again.

Meanwhile, word is that Ronaldo (the bucktoothed Brazilian, not the greasy haired Portuguese fop) is going to be announcing his retirement shortly...

The world is down one proper striker. An extraordinary player.

Thanks. He certainly started in an offside position before free kicks for Manchester United.

Poor Clint Dempsey. He had a chance to take all three points for Fulham!! :(

Won the penalty but couldn't convert it. Chelsea's title hopes are looking very small at the moment. It would take a massive stumble from both United and Arsenal from Chelsea to catch up.

Poor fantasy teams , and he had a second chance - that's another  for him. Still, Chelsea :).

Dempsey was obviously tired at 90+3, but it still sucks. Chelsea are very lucky not to have lost. Still at this stage of the season a draw is almost as bad as a loss. They cannot afford to drop any points at all.

Watching it on the highlights, Dempsey would have been better off just leaving the rebound to the Fulham player coming in behind him (who's #22 in the Fulham squad, Gudjohnsen is #7 isn't he?) who would have had a clear shot instead of trying a Rooney overhead kick. But that would require eyes in the back of his head though. Perhaps the ultimate football player of the future will have four sets of eyes...

This draw means Man City can take their CL spot... so much for Torres moving to Chelsea so he could play in the CL and 'win things' - these next two matches could be his only CL games until the end of 2013!

Gudjohnsen is #22
