Gattuso is a hothead, so it could have been anything...to me he's the quintessential Italian player in all his qualities. ;)

Big win for Spurs though - they kept a clean sheet, got the away goal and play the second leg at home, probably with less injury problems.

I feel like I should be smoking a cigar or something! Who would have thought the hot streak would continue? AND we're ahead of Chelsea and have a game in hand on Man City. I'm going to revel in this until their defense collapses like a stack of dimes in the next game!
:D

Gotta hand it to Harry though. The difference a manager makes. Spurs were stone motherless last when they sacked Ramos and brought him in. He gets them straight into the Champions League and now they've beaten the Serie A leaders at the San Siro. I don't think Spurs fans have had it so good for as long as I can recall.

After Ramos completely let us all down, I admit that I was just so-so about Redknapp. He had just orchestrated a minor miracle at Portsmouth, but I didn't want to expect too much based on that one season. I'm glad to have been wrong. Even if he gets us nothing else in the future, he will have been worth whatever we're paying him and more.

Saw these tweets from Gabriele Marcotti (@Marcotti) RE: Gattuso

Gattuso in Gazzetta: "I lost my head. I was wrong. There is no justification for what I did."

Gattuso: "Jordan was busting my balls for the whole second half, but I should never have done what I did. There is no justification."

Gattuso: "Not going to say what was said, thats between us, we were speaking Scottish [sic]. Do I expect a ban? I'll accept whatever I get."

To be fair, 'Arry has had a good chunk a money to spend at bopth Portsmouth and Spurs. But, on the other hand (being the wheeler-dealer that he is), he seems to have bought good players at Spurs with that money.

I think Man U and Arsenal will finish in the top two spots (hopefully not in that order though), but the remaining top four posiutions are up for grabs. I would not be shocked to see Spurs finish third or fourth, knocking Man City or Chelsea out of the top four (and possibly even into sixth if Liverpool maintain good form and catch up).

To be fair, it is sort of its own language. ;)

EDIT: Jaffa beat me to it!

I'm only surprised it's taken you this long...
I was moving house so been busy :)

To be fair to him (did I really just say that?) we conceeded 2 of the goals after we went down to 10 men. I think in terms of promotion, our season is over. I just can't see us putting a decent run together. We seem to have a decent enough squad, but put 11 of them together on the pitch and they're like headless chickens most of the time. Still, lets see what happens in the next couple of games...

Great win by Spurs, and hopefully Bale will be back for the return leg. Wonder which Arsenal will turn up for tonight's BIG match :)

As with a few of them. Get in quick!

See, he shakes Harry's hand and walks straight past him directly to Jordan so Joe was the cause/problem. You can see how Joe doesn't react like an innocent man attacked for no reason, but someone expecting the person he's been goading to have a go at him. He's still giving Gattuso lip all the way through the fracas.

Gattuso may have apologized but I can't fault him. There's no place for staff to be taunting and winding up the opposing team's players on the pitch (including the sidelines). Joe's not a player any more, he's technical staff not to be seen or heard in the match at all. Find him a seat in the stands if he wants to be an abusive supporter instead.

Agreed. They aren't far ahead on points, but it's hard to imagine anyone else getting ahead of Arsenal and Man United at this point. (By the way, does anyone else think it's pretty amazing that Man U has lost only one game, but doesn't have a bigger lead at the top of the table?) Man City don't look as strong as they did early in the season, but obviously all that matters is how they play from here on out. It's somewhat difficult to believe that Chelsea will fall that far, considering how long they've been a CL team, but it was bound to happen eventually, so this could be the year.

Spurs have a relatively light league schedule over the next month or so, but they've played down to their opponents on numerous occasions already, so that doesn't give me much confidence. I would be completely happy to finish fourth again, but the possibility of finishing third is such a tease.

Given that Gattuso had earlier shoved him and grabbed him by the throat, he'd have been well within his rights to anticipate more handbags from the Milan player – and Jordan is well within his rights to stick up for himself in my book.

With his suspension Gattuso can do so himself in the return leg, and quite possibly for a few other games too following his antics.

And why specifically Jordan both times? Because Joe's just sitting there in his technical area minding his own business? You're suggesting he has a right to stick up for himself against someone he's been winding up? So a school bully is in the right to stick up for himself if his victim decides they're not going to put up with it? If so, I'm afraid we're not even on the same page.

The post incident responses are all I need to know who is in the right:

Gattuso has already apologized and said he's willing to accept any suspension.

All I'm hearing from the Tottenham side all the way up to the managerial level so far is hooligan 'Gattuso is a fool for going up against bully Jordan, little man would get his botty smacked'.

Gattuso's agent via radio interview:

"What seems evident to me is that my client was strongly provoked by Joe Jordan," Pasqualin told Napoli's Radio Kiss Kiss. "Jordan, after having continuously heckled him, insulted him with truly low phrase, saying '[effing] Italian bastard'. For one like Rino, who has a strong sense of his Italian identity, I think this is the most disgusting and unjustifiable of insults."

I'm not sure that supposed insult is really libellous in Gattuso's case...:D

Reactions to the dispute are, predictably, splitting somewhat along national lines. Italians consider it the latest in a long line of Gattuso outbursts, but cast Jordan as a knuckledragging thug. UK-dwellers blame Gattuso for lashing out so theatrically and smugly point out the Jordan is a bit of a hard man, implying that little Gennaro is lucky to get out of this scrape in one piece.

The bottom line is, if Jordan was really shouting abuse to start the whole thing, the fourth official probably heard it and it will be dealt with accordingly. I still think Gattuso bears most of the blame. Not only did he throttle Jordan during the match, he also smacked Crouchy in an off-the-ball incident and then went back to attacking Jordan after the match was over.

Provocation or no, Gattuso's got no business attacking people like that and he's ultimately going to be held responsible for it.

Racist taunts. Or is it nationalist taunts. UEFA frowns on that more than head butting, or so they claim should. Because it leads to crowd violence. There's going to be angry Italian fans now.

My point all along is he's technical staff. He should be invisible. What's the name of the Tottenham physio? Who cares or wants to know. I don't care about Joe Jordan either. The name Joe Jordan shouldn't even be being mentioned in any match report or news story about the match no matter how angry Gattuso gets. Joe Jordan injected himself into the match to the point he has become the main news story. Ban him from the field of play for the rest of the season. He's not a player any more, unless he's the actual manager he has to stay out of the game, stay off the pitch and keep his mouth shut.

Postscript - Bloody hell, look at that Barcelona line up... Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta, Messi, Villa. Mascherano's not even good enough and is on the bench. Well, at least there won't be any long balls over the top to Ibrahimovic this time.

Oh my i'm so anxious! Part of me thinks we are in the best possible shape to get something from the game but i'm reminded that teams that have held barca or defeated them have done so playing italian style defensive football. Something Arsenal simply do not know how to do.

Both teams have their best possible starting line up with the exception of Vermaelen for Arsenal and Puyol for Barca.

Why oh why did we have to draw Barca. Ugh!!!

Oh well, if we do lose i won't feel too bad because we would've lost to the best team in the world (who are likely going to win it) and it means we can focus on the other competitions now.

Judging by the level of football violence common in Italy, I'd say there were a lot of angry Italians to begin with. ;)

Staff like Jordan get involved in games all the time though, I don't think there's any rule against them being in the technical area or even shouting instructions to players (but I'm not 100% sure on that).

Presumably UEFA is going to have a look at the match report, videos and interview the people involved. I might not have a very high regard for UEFA as a whole, but I'm pretty confident they'll quickly get to the bottom of this. If Joe Jordan was really shouting abuse at Gattuso, he'll surely get a fine or ban as well. There were plenty of people around who must have heard what was said.

The thing is, Gattuso is going to be banned from the return leg because of foul play on the pitch (hacking down Steven Pienaar), not the Joe Jordan incident. Any ban he gets over the latter affair will be additional to that for his yellow card. When you look at the sum total of the fouls and fights Gattuso was involved in (he smacked Crouchy off the ball and went unpunished), he really should have been sent off anyway. So as far as I'm concerned he got off quite cheaply and probably deserves additional bans.
