A huge amount of money, I'm not sure I really can. Will make a decision in the cold light of day tomorrow I think :D and leave everyone with this. We are capable of a good atmosphere every now and then...!

I guess Arsenalists have just been saving up enthusiasm for the right moment. :D

I'm not sure Anfield will still even exist by the time I have the money and free time to make a trip accross the pond and watch a Liverpool match in person.

But to see a big game at the Camp Nou would be an amazing experience.

EDIT: Just for a laugh, peruse this chuckle-worthy bit of Arsenal-baiting. The article isn't as funny as the angry responses. :D

Very baiting - and got all the responses he wanted! Right, in a rush of blood to the head I've booked up, and have 3 days in Barcelona to look forward to in March!

Ooof, that sounds like a lot of fun!

I'll bet it will be sunny and warm there too! I can only imagine what that is like. I'll still be buried in snow here. Lady Blackadder's been to Barcelona, albeit briefly, and I remain jealous.

News today that the cheapest ticket for the CL Final at Wembley will be £176: £150 + a £26 "administration fee". Unbelievable.

As a comparison, the average price for a ticket to the Super Bowl was $4,683. (Ticket prices ranged from $2,000 to a heartstopping $277,000). The face value of the cheapest Super Bowl ticket was $1200. The last time Super Bowl tickets cost less than $200 was in the 1980s.

I would much rather go to the CL final. Of course, the travel expense would put me well into four figures.

Joke! Just read there'll be "some" £80 tickets in the allocations for the clubs. Hm.

That's more or less the normal match price down there. :D

Bonkers!

And as if that wasn't bad enough, you'd have had to sit through the Black Eyed Peas as well!

I think our tickets to Wembley for the play-offs in 2008 were £60 or so...

When I went to the Champions League final at Hampden in 2002 it was free! Not a prawn sandwich to be seen, however. (no deep fried Mars Bars joke please!)

Rangers - Sporting Lisbon tonight, and it's on ESPN:)

I think FIFA has a pretty rosy opinion of many aspects of the NFL way of doing business, so I wouldn't be surprised to see CL Final ticket prices go the way of the Superbowl in the next ten years...

I've found a nice snapshot of OllyW on his way into the ground that day:

Look at the big smile that 4 quid brought you back then! :D

Was watching the Liverpool match 30mins played and next thing i know i'm in la la land on my couch. Woke up and there's 8mins left...still 0-0.

It sounded like the definition of dull. In terms of results, better for Liverpool than Sparta probably as we kept another clean sheet. Classic European away strategy from Dalglish, keeping it tight at the back and hoping for a lucky goal. We will have to play with more attacking verve in the second leg.

N'Gog has a decent scoring record in European matches but couldn't find the net today. The biggest disappointment has to be Joe Cole though, who continues to flop rather depressingly.

EDIT: I wished I had followed the Rangers 1-1 Sporting Lisbon match, at least there were two goals in it.

In other news items, Gattuso has been charged with ""gross unsporting conduct" (why not violent conduct?) for his half-hearted Glaswegian kiss on Joe Jordan, and faces something like a three-game ban if the full punishment is given. Still no news on whether Joe Jordan is facing any punishments over his role in the affair.

Finally, Tom Hicks (of infamous memory and reputation) has been blocked from suing Liverpool for damages in a US court:

Preventing Mr Hicks launching legal action in the US without prior approval from an English court, Mr Justice Floyd said: "I still find it difficult to imagine what possible real connection such a claim would have with any jurisdiction in the Unite States.

"The disputes concern an English asset, duties owed by English directors under English law to English companies and corporate governance arrangements governed by English law.

"I think the time has come when they need to state their case or accept that they do not have one."

It continues to tickle me that Liverpool was purchased right out from under Statler & Waldorf's grubby little noses, and they lost money on the deal. Good riddance.

No, you really didn't want to see it. Usual Rangers European bore-fest performance, 10 men behind the ball. Managed to get a goal from a corner kick, then 10 men behind the ball again. It only got interesting with 10 minutes to go when Sporting scored, after that Rangers came out to play, but it annoys me that they could have played like that for 90 minutes.

That's incredible! I had no idea!

CL Final in Paris, large batch of tickets were €40... that was only 5 years ago.

Oh and I think Lord the minimum is 3 games for gross unsporting conduct. So one would hope Gattuso is banned for a bit longer than that.

Giggs is coming back for yet another season. He's still an incredibly influential player for a 37 year-old, though I hope United has to rely on him a bit less in 2011-12.

The odds still favor Scholes retiring IMO. The first month or two of the season he was the best central midfielder in the league, but he's had a few minor injuries to work through and he hasn't been quite as good lately. Would be nice to have him around next season to give some more tutelage to Tom Cleverley and whatever other central midfielders are around.

And I guess Evra isn't jogging on to Madrid as has been widely rumored for a while, as he supposedly put pen to paper on a new 4 year deal.

Indeed, Liverpool had 0 shots on target

Let's just say it was not a classic. Even if I was a Liverpool fan living in Prague, I'd still probably consider it a waste of an evening...still, at least we didn't lose.

Ah, lame. I looked up the match report on the Guardian and was greeted by a picture of Maurice Edu, who failed to even be mentioned in the report. He must have been sitting somewhere in the back of the bus that was parked in front of Rangers' goal. :D

Sky News was yammering on last night about how he might only get a one match ban, unless they were just referring to his yellow card. Despite Jordan's role in the affair, I still think Gattuso's behavior was outrageous and he deserves whatever he gets.

The man's fitness is amazing, but every year past about 35, a player's chance of maintaining fitness and form decreases dramatically. He's already beaten the odds, but he's also just one Lee Cattermole tackle away from retirement (of course, you could probably say that about any player Lee Cattermole tackles).

I got it from the BBC:

AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been charged with "gross unsporting conduct" after head-butting Tottenham assistant coach Joe Jordan.
European football's governing body Uefa specified the charge Gattuso will face at a disciplinary hearing on Monday.
Its disciplinary code calls for a ban of at least one European match for unsporting conduct.
But the punishment for "assaulting players or others present at the match" is a ban of three games or more.

Chelsea - Everton replay seems to be heading for extra time.. not a fantastic game so far.
