USF1 can't be thrown out of the F1WC arbitrarily. They haven't committed any infractions to warrant that, yet. The line-up of teams can't be switched around on whims. There are agreements and contracts involved.

The cause for the USF1 failure to produce a car is most likely some combination of lack of money and poor management. It doesn't help that the majority of Americans couldn't care less about it. Hell, the majority of Americans aren't even aware an American team exists or even what Formula 1 is.

sad but true.

Would be nice to see USF1 make it as they are at least bringing a bit of variety. I seem to remember they were the first new team to declare an interest in joining F1, so they should have had enough time.

i want to see a lot of cars on the grid... so... i hope they make it also. but only if they can keep a little pace. there is no need for any more "mobile chicanes" in F1.

I imagine it comes down to how badly the FIA and FOTA want a US Grand Prix since a US-based team would at least get some coverage in the mainstream press, even if it's just a little note below the latest NASCAR results.

Honda, Toyota and BMW all are major players in the US market, but they are now all gone, leaving just Mercedes. Ferrari will sell well here, regardless, Renault doesn't sell cars in the US and Lotus sells a handful.

I expect Bernie would love to cut USF1 loose and let Stefan GP in, since it's just about money with him and Stefan has it while USF1 does not.

So maybe it's best to just buy them out and shut them down. I'm sure some Tier One NASCAR or IRL team would like to use the shop.

Now with Canada back, I can get my in person F1 fix without having to cross an ocean (and yes, I know about Brazil. ;) ).

Yeah, I met with someone who knows a few people at US F1 and he said they're going nowhere.

Apparently they had an extremely aerodynamic, but fragile, rear end of the car and design was complete, but then they found that it couldn't pass the crash test.

The amount of extra work required to change the designs (new rear wing, new gearbox, new engine cover, new crash structure, pretty much new rear everything) was too much for a team of 60, especially one with no money.

edit: They also haven't built any parts. The tub in that video is fake.

Latest rumors are that the guy from YouTube is trying to broker a deal to merge Stephan GP with USF1 in order to leverage USF1's entry.

Doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Stefanovic has also revealed that he had discussed a merger with US F1 - which has a 2010 entry but has asked to miss the first four races as its programme is a long way behind schedule. He said these talks had now collapsed despite positive approaches from US F1 investor Chad Hurley.

"Yes, it is true we had some discussions stretching over many days, but these broke down completely on Thursday afternoon European time due to the inflexibility of certain players," Stefanovic said.

"I stress it was not Chad Hurley, who was open to discussions with us, but some of the other stakeholders who sabotaged the talks."

Because Stephan GP had no practice, I think they would be a hazard on the track if allowed entry, and then there are the other factors that I know I have no idea about.

Campos have no practise either, and they're still in. At least Stefan have what is essentially most of the Toyota F1 team/equipment.

We are 8 days away from the start of the season and Hispania have STILL not shown us their car.

Meanwhile, Stefan have two cars ready to go, and the FIA say no.

It's pathetic. It's favouritism. It's wrong.

I suspect it's because they are using old Toyota engines and not the Cosworth ones that the FIA mandated all old teams had to use. Which was a thin-end of the wedge type decision moving towards spec engines at some point and the final death of the sport.

I don't think it's as calculating as that. One of the main gripes against Stefan GP has been how blasé they have been about the whole escapade - taking cars to Bahrain for example. They weren't a part of the original selection process, they hadn't been vetted by the FIA and for all we know they may have taken potential sponsors from USF1 and thus lead to their demise. If the FIA had allowed Stefan GP to race, it would have set a horrible precedent that teams could rock up in March without FIA approval every year saying "we want to race".

Stefan have been saying all along that Bernie told them to go to Bahrain because he didn't think all the new teams would make it.

It seems that Hispania have launched. The story implies they had a car to show, but no pictures.

HRT is not a good name though...

Indeed, as a linked story it appears HRT F1 have been around for a number of year. The specialise in taking the best female drivers and trying to get them into Formula One, their most recent graduate, Nico Rosberg...

EDIT:

Just found this, brilliant! http://f1chicane.com/?p=1554

Unfortunate name. How did the marketing team miss that? Even Hispania Racing (HR) or Hispania Racing Group (HRG) might have worked. Or the Spanish "Equipo de Racing Hispania", which sounds bloody brilliant actually...

 Amazing. Sebastian Buemi's face in particular. And Felipe Massa's cat ...
