A bit late to the thread here, however, look forward to discussing this years F1 with you guys! Good race yesterday and a deserved win for hamilton. Props to Button too for his final qualifying lap to take P4 and then for his 2nd placed finish :)

I think Massa was a bit upset, but he had a terrible race too.

He's not having a stellar year is he... one wonders whether he is still suffering from the effects of his accident last year, did you see that programme last week with Stirling Moss and Richard Hammond? When Prof Sid Watkins said that he'd thought that Moss should've waited 2 years after his crash before attempting a comeback.

I did indeed see that program. I'm not sure what Massa's problem is. The car is fast enough in the right hands to be up near the front, although I don't think it's as fast as the McLaren or Red Bull. He seems to be driving OK, just lacking that killer instinct. Maybe he'll recover some of that, maybe not. I was never his greatest fan before his accident anyway.

I didn't see that show. But two years?! Massa's psyche has always seemed fragile to me. When things are going well he can get on the front row of the grid and win from the lead. But when things have been less than optimal he has a great deal of difficulty making up spots during races. He also seems to lack the patience of drivers like Button and Alonso who if behind put their heads down and knock off fast lap after fast lap and let the race come to them.

I was watching on Speed/Fox and I'm surprised none of the announcers posited that Kubica's dangerous cut across Sutil was responsible for the flat tire the following lap.

Overall good race. Not only did it fly by, but it was very suspensful!

Not F1, but I didn't fancy making a whole separate thread.

Went to Le Mans for the race, was a very interesting race but the two cars I preferred (Rebellion and Peugeot) didn't make it through the night. Audi put in a good performance, making the most of the unreliability of the Peugeots.

I've put a few pictures up on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/maaaahtin/

I'm jealous. I would love to attend LM24. My wife and I plan a trip sometime in the next few years to do see it.

It's definitely worth the trip, especially if you can find a group of people to go with. If you go down, be sure to arrive no later than the Wednesday, gives you time to set up while the quali is on and you're around for Mad Friday.

I've gone for the past 3 years now. I had hoped to be working for one of the P1 teams there this year but it fell through. Hopefully next year I will be.

It will be a bit more of an ordeal and expense for us, coming from the U.S. We would be there by Wednesday in any case. Right now we attend Sebring, Road America, and Petit Le Mans every year. A trip to LM24 would be instead of that.

I assume if you attend Le Mans you need to plan for a tent? How pratical are the grand stands? Do people leave over night and then come back in the morning?

Back to F1, I finally was able to listen to the BBC 5 Live podcast last night and they did indicate that Sutil's flat tire was a puncture from Kubica's crazy dive for the pits. :(

I meant to say, I'm hoping to start working as an IMSA pit reporter this year. My contact already said he can fit me in, but I'm not scheduled yet.

Take a camper van or tent, make sure it's double skin because it WILL rain and you WILL get wet otherwise. Book as early as you can because the good campsites (Karting Nord being my favourite) go fast, and you'll end up in Beausejour or worse.

If you don't want to camp you can stay in a hotel nearby, but it'll be expensive and you'll miss out on all the late night fun. It'll also be a pain to get back in the morning and park.

The grandstands are expensive, but it's up to you whether you think it's worth it. If you get one, go for the one that is above the pits. It's one of the cheapest and has the best view: down onto the garages from above as they carry out work and onto the pit straight as they blast past. It's also the best one to watch the start and finish of the race from. The stands on corners are pointless as you can get the same view by standing in the same place.

The grandstands are mainly useful for the start and finish of the race, that's when the good viewing spots are busiest. During the rest of the race it gets quieter as people go back to the campsite to eat/drink. For the first two years I went we got grandstand seats, but this year we didn't and I didn't feel like I missed out.

Watching the NASCAR race at Sonoma. Boy those cup cars look slow! Like lumbering oxen. It's such a contrast compared to F1 cars which look like they are flying and change directions like slot cars.

I have F1 withdrawal this weekend. Too bad the next race is on probably the worst track on the circuit :(

Between yesterday at Road America and today at Sonoma, I can only think that NASCAR circuit racing is a really poor attempt to make fun of real road racing. They're just making a mockery of the sport and making themselves look like complete idiots and amateurs.

I was at Snetterton all weekend at SELOC@Snetts/Classic Team Lotus Festival. Saw some beautiful old F1 cars as well as the current Lotus F1 car being given some full speed laps round the track :D

Brilliant! Those JPS Lotuses were among the very best looking F1 cars year after year. I wish I was in the UK to see all the vintage racing and displays. I'm on the wrong coast to go and see them once a year at Laguna Seca.

I agree NASCAR stock cars are totally out of their element on a road course, but I find that to be the most entertaining part of watching them on said courses. :)

So be it. Wasn't Michelin the company that was moving towards a low profile tire? Maybe that's why it's Pirelli. Low profile tires would require expensive 2011 car redesigns.
Yes, Michelin wanted to align the tire development with their sports-car racing programs (i.e. LMS, ALMS, etc.). Thus, they wanted to go to an 18" rim.
