Don't think this has been posted yet: the first draft layout for the new track at Austin, Texas has been published. I quite like it, especially the talk of elevation changes.

I've not seen that yet... looks part Hockenheimring/part Paul Ricard. Should be good then. :)

I've still not seen the Korean layout either.

Always a good thing. It should be a prerequisite for any new circuit. :)

Saw that yesterday. F1Blog was tweeting and blogging about it. They were talking about how it has elements of Turkey and Silverstone.

Better picture showing the elevation changes. Of course I think the track is over-narrow in this to make it look more dramatic than it really is...

This made me laugh from this article:
http://www.planetf1.com/off-on-f1/6194280/The-Secret-Diary-of-Adrian-Newey-Aged-53-and-3-4

Mark's got a brilliant technique for keeping his radio messages from being broadcast. He makes sure he swears in every transmission. He knows that the FIA don't have time to bleep out the swear words and so they can't put it out for other teams to hear. During the race he told Christian to tell Seb to "****ing back off," but they couldn't broadcast it. A bit of Aussie genius. The heading for the official release afterwards was "**** Happens".

If you don't know, this is not really an excerpt from Newey's diary....just a fun "what-if"...from Newey..

Vettle. I'm sure my friend will say it wasn't his fault and the rain caused it....

It was a factor in the accident certainly, but it didn't cause it, unlike the similar incident involving Kimi/Sutil at Monaco in 2008 for example.

Another shocking and grossly inconsistent decision by the stewards though, he should've surely received a 10 place grid penalty for Monza.

WMSC tomorrow... in a perfect world hopefully we'll see the rather vacuous team orders rule rescinded. But I'm expecting Ferrari to be stripped of their constructors points, which given the circumstances would be a disgrace.

Should there be no further punishment however, it's obviously clear evidence of Ferrari favourtism though. ;)

Today is the day for Ferrari. Anything is on the table for Massa/Alonso on-track swap: fine all the way to exclusion from the championship are possible.

I'm going with a fine + a suspended ban.

I haven't seen much if anything on this, but given that the car is such a piece of junk, why was Chandhok given the boot so quickly? Everybody seemed to like him and given the handicap that is/was the car I thought he drove resonably well. Certainly no worse than some who managed to retain seats for years in better cars.

It's nothing to do with his driving ability, Yamamoto brings more sponsor money and HRT are struggling for cash.

So he can commentate with Crofty and Anthony Davidson on 5Live F1 during Friday practice. ;)

They're brilliant... especially Chandhok. :) I'd replace BBC's main commentary team with them, because they're wickedly funny. :D

Reports are suggesting Ferrari will get no additional penalty for the team orders issue. Seriously....none?? How can they not even be given a x race probation in the event something else happens? :(

Yes, Ferrari found out today they can cheat for $100K, a fraction of their total annual budget. As I type the Scudia Ferrari office is computing the cost of cheating their way to another championship for Alonso.

FIA said:
there were many examples of what could have been said to be team orders in Formula 1 in recent years, and therefore there has been inconsistency in its application.

Given these examples, one could argue that it was unfair that Ferrari were even fined in the first place, a further penalty therefore would've been grossly unreasonable given these circumstances.

Well, the other way of looking at it of course is that it's one hundred thousand times more than McLaren & Renault can do it for. ;)

it's long past due time for the ridiculous 'no team order rule' to be scrapped.
it's a team sport, let them operate as a team.
or limit them to 1 car per team and the problem disappears.

bunch of hypocrites the full set of them. they all have being doing it, all the time and they know.
i would much rather that a team does that in the open -and faces the backlash of the pissed fans- than by 'secret' tinkering with pit stops and the such.

Seems that the FIA may very well agree with you by referring it to the Formula One Sporting Working Group for consideration.

And I completely agree with you on everything else you've said too.

Looking forward to a good race today with some overtaking from the Mclarens

I would like Bridgestone to stop providing "soft" tyres that can last pretty much the entire race. It makes a farce of the whole thing if everyone can start on the softs and then have a splash and dash just before the finish.

It's a bit silly isn't it… I wonder if Bridgestone quitting the sport has anything to do with it? Moving to a narrower front tyre hasn't helped things at all either.

Ross Brawn has been especially critical of the current tyres, hopefully we'll see Pirelli come up with seem decent rubber for next season.

The racing at Monza is seldom steller though (much like the old Hockenheimring) unless something unexpected arises.

Not quite textbook from Fred (shocking start, both him and Massa should've comfortably out-dragged Button to T1), but it's always a good thing to see Ferrari beat the McCheaters… in fact the only thing that could possibly make it any better is if it was their other driver... then it'd be a McCheater with Lies. Heheh.
