I wonder if by using the planned Toyota 2010 car they would be found to be in violation of the "no customer car" rule?

No, teams are allowed to purchase chassis and designs, but not from another competitor.

For example, Campos (if they ever get to Bahrain) are using a chassis designed and built by Dallara. BAR used to use chassis designed and build by Reynard.

... and Vitaly Petkov to drive alongside Kubica.

First thoughts: Jordan much? I'm sure it even had Total sponsorship towards the end.

NB: Yes, I know these are Renault corporate colours. My comments are towards the sharky-black bits reminiscent of the Benson and Hedges "Buzzin Hornets" branding.

my fave car so far... and jordan did have "Total" as a sponsor in '96 i think ...

As "hands on" as Anthony Hamilton is at a race, I think Petrov's mom is worse. At least Anthony stays off the pit wall complex (I often see Petrov's mom hovering around it during GP2 race broadcasts).

God help the team that gets Hamilton and Petrov as co-drivers. The Team Manager might as well stay home since he'll be more effective away from the track without "Mom" and "Dad" (respectively) hanging around telling him his job. :p

Virgin release their new car

Very nice - one of my favourite liveries for a while, and unusual colours (for an F1 car) too.

Will be interesting to see how it goes. It's the only F1 car for ages that's not been in a wind tunnel: all the aero work was computer simulation only

Isn't it also one of the only cars that doesn't have the extended "shark fin". I'll be curious to see how that plays out to others that use that design element.

Murphy The Bear rumors the USF1 team is in trouble, which is pretty much what Bernie has been expecting all along. Of course, if you know anything about The Bear, you know to take what he says with very potent grains of salt.

Peter Windsor was on The SPEED Report on Sunday saying that rumors of their imminent demise not withstanding, USF1 fully intended to be on the grid at Bahrain. He noted that the team is required to show up (though The Bear says the current Concorde Agreement did away with that) and that they spent too much money and time on facilities to not be serious about participating.

I can't recall if Peter mentioned whether or not they have undertaken and passed their crash test.

Well of course he said that. What else would you expect him to say. He needs to keep up appearances, if for nothing else to avoid scaring off potential investors. If USF1 is about to crash and burn he's not going to say so. I hate Bernie as much as the next guy, but you can't deny he isn't smart. If he is concerned USF1 won't make it (and he's said so all along), he has a reason for stating so. It may be politically motivated, but it's just as likely that he knows something. Just sayin....

I've just been looking over the Virgin car, and their design has thrown up some interesting bits

The nose appears significantly kinked in profile compared to the others, with more of a "U" shape to it. The Virgin VR-01 also appears to have a narrower wheelbase compared to other competitors. On some photos the front axel appears wider than the rear. All in all, it seems to have thrown up an interesting design despite it being designed on a computer.

I've often wondered about using genetic algorithms to try and optimise F1 car design. It's been used in other areas to produce more efficient results than any human has come up with that have surprised those involved (I remember being taught about this at Uni where the GA managed to produce a circuit that baffled the engineers but worked and used about 15% few transistors than their best effort). The difficulty would be the number of variables that could be changed and efficiently evaluating each member of each generation.
