not even employing a safety on that play had a lot to do with it

A safety ? Ha! They barely had a linebacker covering anything over 5 yards out.

Saints and GB in the NFL are in their own category. Steelers, Pats, and Giants are fine teams, but not the type that would ever pose a threat to GB or Saints.

That's just inaccurate. Any given sunday.

That's just inaccurate. Any given sunday.

I have seen the exceptions, like Tebow. But let's get real here.

Accurately, the Saints are going to fry my Niners. If there were ten Sundays where the Saints would go against the Niners, as they are now, they would probably win 8 out of 10 of those meetings.

Yes, I want to hang onto that 10 or 20% percent chance that my Niners will win this one. :) In more than three decades of watching the Niners, I have never seen them in such an important game win one when they were so outmatched.

When the Niners did well in postseason, it's because they had a complete team. In every instance they didn't, they either didn't make the playoffs or were ousted early. When everything is going well, they either make playoffs or win the Super Bowl and when they make the Super Bowl, it's because they had that complete team and in five times being the expected winner, they won.

I have not seen a year where a team, in this case two teams, was so far above their competition as the Saints and Packers. Look at the QB passing yards for those two teams. It's pretty insane and as great as the Niner's D is, they won't stop the Saints though it may be the best D that Brees will see this season.

I wish I could see a happy exception, and while I see it rarely, but with other teams, my Niners never get lucky, or at least since the 1970s. They deserve their division championships and Super Bowls, and don't win unless, in their case, they have the tools. They just don't have the tools to get past a Saints, and then (likely) Green Bay. It's beyond miracle thinking, this year.:(

Everyone's going to want to watch the Pats, even though they haven't won a playoff game since 2007 and the Bruins are the reigning champs.

Sorry, zioxide, but you're insane. A playoff game always trumps a regular season game for me, no matter the team. I am lucky enough to be able to watch both, but if not, it'd be primarily Patriots and Bruins during breaks.

Watch the Bruins, dude. (and this is why):

The Pats, like I predicted, will probably win by 20+ points and that's not stretching anybody's predictions.

31-10, you heard it here first. :) The Pats D, no matter what they have or have not done this season, will be on fire and have a lot to prove, including putting out the fire on the Tebow Fire phenomenon.

I like your thinking. :D

I like your thinking. :D

Thanks, but that's what a sports announcer/analyst said earlier this week. But I would have thought a similar thing if that means anything. ;)

The 30-ish points for the Pats, and the 20-ish margin for the Pats is pretty much what a lot of TV and internet analysts are calling for today. Some analysts think the Pats will win, but by a smaller margin, but they will still be predicted to win.

Pats are the best in the AFC, and a challenge to most NFC teams, except for GB and the Saints. If somehow Denver meets a GB or Saints in the SB, it will be scary for Tebow and company.

What would be cool, though, is that somehow the Pats go to the SB and beat the Saints or GB, and that Brady and coach get one more (and be like '80s 49ers or '70s Steelers with four rings) OR that Tebow starts what would be his first of two or three rings by going all the way and taking out a GB or NO in Super Bowl.

Pending all that, another cool thing would be, next season or the one after that, for the Steelers or Big Ben (if he's on another team) to get that 3rd ring and end his career even with Tom Brady in SB rings. It's already a given that Brady and Peyton Manning are considered "easily" the two best QBs of their generation and for Big Ben to be put in the same sentence as those two HoF shoe-ins, he could do so with another SB ring, even if his numbers never reach the likes of a Brady or Manning. And though I don't root for SD or Dallas, Rivers and Romo have such consistent numbers that it would be a shame for them to retire and not get at least one ring. The greatest QB, all things considered with how football is played now and how it was played in the past, is probably Dan Marino, and he has no rings. Had he won just one SB, then there would be no disagreeing to him being the best QB in football history.

With the numbers and what may come down the line over next several years, it's possible for Rivers or Romo to retire with best QB rating of all time. They are in spitting distance of retiring above long-time leader Steve Young and his whole/high-numbers career. What makes beating Young, in a long career so hard to do is, he played consistently on a high level up to age 36 with five or six major concussions. Many young, great QBs now will not keep their high numbers through age 36 and will probably not even make it to that age, even as a backup.

1. Aaron Rodgers (28) 104.1 2005-2011 gnb
2. Tony Romo (31) 96.9 2004-2011 dal
3. Steve Young+ 96.8 1985-1999 2TM
4. Tom Brady (34) 96.4 2000-2011 nwe
5. Philip Rivers (30) 95.5 2004-2011 sdg

Lets face it, no matter who faces GB or the Saints in the Super Bowl it will be scary. The Saints offense is just incredible.

It's odd to me that people think the Patriots would have no chance against the Packers - their defense is actually ranked worse than ours at 32 out of 32 teams (we're 31). I'm not saying the Patriots would whoop the Packers or anything of that sort, but it's puzzling how everyone jumps to this conclusion. If you negate the defensive rankings, since they're so close, I don't think anyone would argue the Patriots don't put points up on the board just as easily/regularly as the Packers do. I actually think it would be a really close game.

Either way, that's a discussion (hopefully) for another day. We have to beat Denver. One of my best friends is a Giants fan and she's utterly convinced Green Bay is going down tomorrow. The Giants have suddenly discovered their pass rush, and their offense is clicking with Cruz and Bradshaw/Jacobs piling up the yards, so I wouldn't be shocked. Should be a great game.

I'd love to see the Giants win, as a NYG/NE Super Bowl rematch is high on my wish list. We owe them.

I agree with all you said, and as much as I dislike Eli and the Giants, I really, really don't like the hype around Rodgers and the Packers
I would prefer the Saints, Niners or Giants over the Packers without question

Oddly enough, I think the Pats could have more trouble from Denver than with Houston or Baltimore

Agreed, the Giants are firing on all cylinders the last couple of games. I think they have a decent chance to beat the Packers.

I am not a Pats fan, per se, but we love Brady here in norcal. He's one of ours, but so is Rodgers. It must be the freakin' water over here.

At one time when you mentioned great norcal QBs and greatness, it was because we imported guys like a dude named Montana or dude named Young. :)

Finally, it's fun to see local boys mentioned in our local papers with people who actually knew these kids. I have many friends who went to Chico State (Rodgers hometown) and my h.s. had divisional games against Serra (Brady). It's very personal to me when a local kid does well.

I would as well, and I haven't trust the Packers all season and have posted as much. I think they're a great team, don't get me wrong. And they could certainly win it all, but having them as a Super Bowl lock? No.

As do I. And a decent chance while you're playing your best football is all you really need in the playoffs. Pierre-Paul and Tuck are going to be pains in the ass for Green Bay.

Just like last year, it seems the Packers are losing respect with all the heralded "predictors" out there..... Just. Like. Last. Year :D

huge turnover by NO inside the 10 yard line. Interesting so far.

Not a lack of respect here, I just don't like 'em and hope they crash and burn in utter disappointment and humiliation :D

Are you going to down vote every post where I don't kiss Packer butt?

49ers defense looks great - 3 turnovers already for New Orleans, ouch.

Boo Hoo...Your team is still an 8 point favorite, so it's not like they are the underdogs they were last year. And like the Packers last year, the Giants are coming in on a hot streak, having fought just to get in the playoffs - and their running game and defense seem to be peaking at the right time - and forget about Eli/Cruz/Nicks.

Even you can admit that win or lose, it's not going to be a cakewalk tomorrow. The Giants definitely have a chance to go in there and come away with a win.

i just got home and turned the game one to see the saints losing in the second quarter. color me surprised.

also if the saints lose this everyone will always be saying that they suck out of the dome.
