There are reports that in 2002 the janitor that walked into the shower told all the other janitors right after it happened. You mean to tell me that Paterno who has his hands in everything didn't hear this news? I don't believe for a second that he is that shielded from his own program.

This raises a question: why the hell didn't the janitor call the police/county sheriff's office if (s)he knew a kid was being sexually molested? I find it hard to believe that he would have gotten away with it without Paterno's help.

I know you're not as stupid as that statement makes you sound, Ignatius - he did not look the other way.

The only one who sounds stupid is you. Paterno testified that McCreary told him he "only" saw Sandusky fondle a kid in the shower (in response to the question: Did McCreary tell you Sandusky raped a boy in the shower?).

And Paterno did next to nothing. He made a phone call then looked the other way while Sandusky continued to bring children into the AD buildings and rape them (this after he mysteriously retired following his previous arrest for raping a kid in the shower).

Even though Sandusky got away with it the first time he was caught, any "rational and responsible" person in a position of almost complete authority would do a lot more than just take away an (alleged) child molester's keys to the locker room. Instead, Sandusky continued to have complete access up until a few days ago (even AFTER Sandusky had been under investigation for YEARS).

Honestly, I can't believe anyone would defend any of these people's actions, but here we are.

For the same reason McCreary didn't: because they were too *********** to stand up to Paterno and the Penn State machine.

Any janitor who walks in on a guy molesting a boy needs to beat the **** out of the guy on the spot, not run to tell his buddy janitors

Jus' sayin

Agreed! Even if he couldn't take on Sandusky he could have at least tackled him or something and told the kid to run for help.

This!!! I'm so sick of people around here (I live right near State College) defending Paterno. Yes, he is not the one who committed the crime but EVERYONE who knew about it needed to be fired without question. If football and Paterno weren't attached to this situation then everyone would agree, but people in PA are blinded by their love of football and JoePa.

I'm glad I hate sports, it lets me take the PSU blinders off and look at a situation for what it is. (I actually didn't even know who Joe Paterno was when I attended Penn State!)

Everyone knows the media focused on Paterno instead of Sandusky, whatever, but I'm amazed that students last night rioted over a football coach being fired instead of rioting because victims who were abused were simply swept under the rug.

(Note: I do not agree with rioting, but a vigil for the victims would have been a more appropriate thing to do).

Really?

The grand jury report lists all of the people below as being among the ones who knew either firsthand or by report that Sandusky was blowing kids in the showers. Many of them are FAR more culpable than Paterno, either because they directly witnessed it or are in a position of actual (not virtual) authority:

Joe Miller - high school wrestling coach (witness)
Steven Turchetta - high school football coach and assistant principal (hearsay)
Unnamed victim F.A. (witness)
Unnamed graduate assistant, believed to be Mike McQueary (witness)
Unnamed father of graduate assistant (hearsay)
Joe Paterno (hearsay)
Tim Curley - PSU athletic director (hearsay)
Gary Schultz - PSU senior vice president (hearsay)
Dr. Jack Raykovitz - executive director of Second Mile (hearsay)
Graham Spanier - PSU president (hearsay)
Wendell Courtney - PSU and Second Mile counsel (hearsay)
Unnamed victim B.K. (witness)
Mother of Victim 6 (witnessed confession)
Detective Ronald Shreffler - University Police (hearsay)
Ray Gricar - District Attorney (hearsay)
Thomas Harmon - Director of University Police (hearsay)
Detective Ralph Ralston - City Police (witnessed confession)
Jerry Lauro - PA Dept. of Public Welfare (hearsay)
Jim Calhoun - PSU janitor (witness)
Unnamed janitorial staff (hearsay)
Ronald Petrosky - PSU physical plant (witness)
Jay Witherite - PSU janitor and Calhoun's supervisor (hearsay)

So you're saying ALL of these people should lose their jobs?

Everyone knows the media focused on Paterno instead of Sandusky

This is the real travesty. Far too many people are far more guilty than Paterno, but nobody in the media wants to report that; they simply wanted a headline with more "oomph" to it, and that means throwing Paterno under the bus.

I really think Paterno had a bigger role than what the grand jury said. Wether they didn't want to go after the big fish or just didn't have enough evidence but I don't think Joe is as innocent as you say.

So you're saying ALL of these people should lose their jobs?

YES! Without question! Anyone who knew about this and failed to do everything in their power to stop it should be held accountable. Anyone who witnessed these acts and The more involved a person was in the coverup, the more culpable they are. There may be a few people (on that list or otherwise) who tried to go to the authorities but were ignored or threatened, but everyone else in this thing is guilty.

At the very, very least, no person who has knowledge of child molestation and fails to put a stop to it should ever be allowed to work with children. These people—especially the coaches and administrators who work with young people on a daily basis—owe society far more than the barest minimum effort when it comes to protecting the lives of innocent children.

As stomach turning as it is, these people are also on the hook for another generation of child molesters because statistics tells us that some of the kids Sandusky (and possibly his wealthy, booster cronies) molested will become predators themselves. The whole thing is mind boggling and sickening.

Oh and then there's this.

Barry Switzer knew Joe Paterno's career could end only one way.

Once he saw the footage of the Penn State coach standing on his lawn, talking to reporters and admitting to the world that he should've done more, the former Oklahoma coach realized his fate was sealed. He would be forced out. He would be fired.

“I knew that it would come to this,” Switzer said.

It had to.

“They did the right thing at the university,” he said. “The university had to do this, and it was the right thing to do.”

“Having been in this profession a long time and knowing how close coaching staffs are, I knew that this was a secret that was kept secret,” Switzer said. “Everyone on that staff had to have known, the ones that had been around a long time.”

And this.

Joe Paterno has reached out to a prominent Washington criminal defense lawyer to represent him in the Penn State sex abuse case, a source close to the case told NBC News.

Sorry friend, but there's no cause and effect correlation between abuse and becoming an abuser. Though the media commonly plays on the notion that victims grow up to become predators the idea is rooted more in myth than it is in truth or fact.

How about some football talk?

Dawgs poised to take the East with a win over Auburn

If you say so.

I do say so. ;)

Let me clarify by saying there is no definitive cause and effect correlation. It's like one of those confusing standardized test questions that talks about A being like B and B being like C, but that doesn't mean that all A's are like C's. The point is that when we look at the data there are predators who were abused as children, but that doesn't translate into stating that if someone is abused they are destined to become an abuser. In fact, sadly, abuse is much more prevalent than we'd like to admit and the vast majority of abuse victims do not go on to abuse others.

It is widely believed that boys who are victims of sexual abuse become abusers themselves. Studies of pedophiles suggest this often is the case, but new research shows that the risk may be smaller than previously thought.

Roughly one in 10 male victims of child sex abuse in a U.K. study later went on to abuse children as adults.

"The message here is that sexual victimization alone is not sufficient to suggest a boy is likely to grow up to become a sex offender,"

Enjoyed the UH victory last night. Case Keenum is something else. I remember first seeing him really play back when UH beat Tech in '09. I rushed the field and high fived a few players then didn't really know what to do next lol. Rushing the field is overrated :p

I hope you're right. Two generations of lives destroyed (the kids who were molested and their parents) is more than enough.

We get to face an angry Bama and Nick Saban. Oh joy!

I just hope he shows some mercy and keeps it below 50. That D is going to do terrible things to our O-Line.

BOOMER!! Like that?

Question, though...Is there a way to incorporate blue into their uniforms? I prefer my teams to have Blue in them. I've been negotiating with the Jets for years to get rid of those God awful green uniforms.

Only if somehow it rubs off of other jerseys as we are knocking people down and taking names. ;)

Moyank24, you should have been a Sooner fan back in January of 2007. I remember a night when the Sooners had a LOT of blue on their jerseys, you know, from getting knocked down by blue jerseys and getting their names taken... ;):D

The games I'm looking forward to the most are Georgia vs. Auburn (GO DAWGS!), and Stanford vs. Oregon. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any delusions of grandeur like last year when I thought we actually had a good shot at playing in the NCG, I just want to see Stanford and their "All-World" QB lose.

Of course I'm REALLY looking forward to hosting TCU tomorrow. It's going to be really cold out there, and we'll most likely have rain and snow. I would say that the weather would give us an advantage, but we haven't played or practiced in it either.

My only concern is how we've played at home this season. We haven't been ourselves when we're at home. And TCU is going to have plenty of reason to come in here and give us a run for our money. Namely they haven't forgotten that this game was originally to be played in Fort Worth. Heh.

I've lost 58 pounds so far this year. I'm 6'2" and down to 210, but tomorrow I'm going to look like a sumo wrestler! Layers, baby! :D

The Big game this week no doubt is #7 Oregon 8-1 at #4 Stanford 9-0 and both undefeated in the Pac-12 ... looking forward to watching Prime Time Sat nite.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out :)

Texas will lose at least one more, which may knock them out of the Cotton.

Congrats. I'm always fascinated to hear how people have lost large amounts of weight. If you don't mind me asking, what's your regimen?

Of course I'm REALLY looking forward to hosting TCU tomorrow.

I think Boise is going to roll, but...Go Frogs!

Auburn vs., Georgia. It's you and me! I'm fully expecting that UGA will win, but looking at the results from this year (I can't comment on how UGA plays because I haven't seen any games), it seems like we're pretty evenly matched based on scores vs. common teams played. Should be a good one.

Dawgs are a 2 TD favorite I think at home
Seems like a lot to me, but Auburn hasn't played well on the road

Dawgs will know the outcome of the SCarolina - Gator game
I wouldn't be shocked to see the Gators beat the Cocks
If so, the Dawgs can wrap up the East today, and that would be ace

Go Dawgs! Sic 'em! Woof, Woof, Woof!!

Did Texas Tech forget they had a season to play after beating Oklahoma? I got bored with the Florida - USC(east) game, so I started flipping around and saw the OK State-TTU game. TTU was down 42-0 and it's not even halftime. Really? Did their defense forget there was a game today? Did the entire team forget there are still games to play? I realize OSU is really good, but wow.

Of course, now that I have posted this, watch Bama jump to a 45-0 lead on us.
