An exciting 3-0 game.

Kudos to Alabama. They didn't really deserve to be here but they made the most of their chance.
Complete domination by the Tide and LSU was utterly lifeless. I'm shocked.

Champion, they didn't even have a playoff.Alabama completely dominated LSU. 4 plays in Alabama territory (all coming at the end of the game)?
Someone should've told LSU that championships are won in January.

Please elaborate on this?LSU has a far, far more impressive resume if you look at the bodies if work wholly.
What a silly statement. The argument in favor of the BCS is that "every game counts" and that the whole season is a playoff. The current system is a complete sham that robs us of quality football games in January that would determine an actual champion.
It's dumb to have a rematch where the losing team from the first game doesn't have to earn their way into a second game. A playoff would allow just that to happen. If Alabama is truly the best team in the land (and though that definitely appears to be the case right now, we'll never know for sure), they could have beaten OSU in a semifinal to set up this game while LSU played Stanford. In a perfect world, teams would have had to play several playoff games in December just to GET to this one.
As it stands, Alabama was clearly the best team of the field last night. LSU played scared on offense while Bama pulled out all the stops. But what do we know for sure? Only that both teams won a handful of games that mattered and split a two-game series with each other. Hell, LSU has a far, far more impressive resume if you look at the bodies if work wholly.
Games between top shelf defenses are like that. I wouldn't call it boring, though, by any stretch.jsolares said:bah it's been a boring game
I'd really love to hear who thinks any of those bottom 6 teams had a snowball's chance in hell of hanging with either Bama or LSU. Even the pollsters apparently didn't think any of them were viable, or Bama would have dropped below #2 in November.MacDawg said:LSU

For all the haters - you got your wish. An SEC team finally lost an NC game.

I think too often we confuse the "best team" with a championship
They are totally different
A playoff wouldn't determine who is the "best team" any more than the Bowls
A National Championship is just that, a title, but it doesn't guarantee the best team gets to hoist a trophy
History shows in various sports that the 'best team' doesn't always win in either scenario
They are the winners, the best team on that night, the hottest team, the luckiest team, the team with the most breaks, the team with the least amount of injuries at the right time, etc.
The Patriots a few years ago were clearly the best team, and beat the Giants in the regular season, went undefeated and posted numerous records
But they lost the SuperBowl and the Giants were the champs, not the best team
The argument between playoffs and the BCS is an argument about philosophy in determining a champion (not the best team)
Playoffs say a group of teams get the shot to win the championship by beating each other up
BCS says, lets try our best to get arguably the 2 best teams together and let them play for the championship
I don't think either is right or wrong, they are just different approaches
Before the BCS, the polls were voted to determine who was the "best team"
IMO, it made the bowls more exciting and there was a lot of interest, but it didn't produce a "championship", just a poll of who was the 'best team'
The BCS tries to give us a championship
It isn't perfect, but it does try to match arguably the two best teams
Suppose you have a playoff of 8 teams
This year's final BCS would have had:
LSU
Alabama
Oklahoma State
Stanford
Oregon
Arkansas
Boise State
Kansas State
Let's assume 1 plays 8, etc.
LSU v KState
Alabama v Boise State
Oklahoma State v Arkansas
Stanford v Oregon
IMO, if KState, Boise, Arkansas or Oregon were able to win out in that playoff...
They may be the 'champion' of a playoff, but they would never be the "best team"
A playoff 'champion' may or may not be the "best team"
But a BCS champion has a far greater probability of being both 'champion' and the 'best team'
I think LSU/Alabama is a toss up on being the best team
I really think Bama outplayed LSU the first game too, but found a way to lose
But LSU's resume is quite impressive
Either is worthy to be called champion and the best team
A Stanford or an Oklahoma State could have been called champion of a playoff, but would never have been the 'best team'
I am not fundamentally opposed to a playoff
I just think it gives you a different product in the end
Neither is right or wrong, just different
Hats off to Bama and LSU for great seasons
Their games may not have been the most entertaining, but IMO they were clearly the 2 best teams in the country
And for me, that is what a championship should be about
Or, we could use opinion to figure out who the national champion is?
I dont care how you turn it, a playoff would give everyone a chance to know who the "real" champion is. You have to battle through a set amount of teams in the post season. If you are good, you move on. If you are bad, well oh well.

That game was horrible. LSU looked totally lost. Yes, the Tide have a great defense and they played a good game, but LSU didn't even put up a fight. Their QB looked confused every time he ran the option and they gave up almost entirely on the passing game. Their defense got stops at the end of Bama drives, but for the most part the Tide moved the ball at will up and down the field.
After watching last night's game I firmly believe that OSU was robbed of a championship. If they had played LSU last night they would have killed them. It wouldn't have been just field goals like it was for Bama. The OSU high powered offense would have absolutely slaughtered the LSU defense the way they played last night. Alabama was the better team last night and they will be given the BCS crown, but they never should have been in that game and the way LSU played shows that no one is unbeatable.
I'm an SEC fan (Go Vols!), but I really think the end of this year is a disappointment for college football.
