Wait...if the DVD drive was removed and a discrete GPU added then we would have a 40-50W TDP machine which would roast my nuts (so to speak).

Is that really going to happen unless they want the new MBP to have a fan on all the time?

You should probably start looking at your other options then.

I will. Other companies are really stepping their game up and I'm hopeful some very nice laptops will be released in the coming months. Keeping an eye out for the samsung series 9 and the sony vaio z update.

Adding a low-end discrete GPU doesn't automatically increase the TDP while in use. When the discrete GPU is used, the IGP is shut down meaning that the CPU uses less power (I don't know the TDP of the IGP but I'd guess ~7W) which can then be used by the discrete GPU. Besides, if the ODD is removed, there is space for bigger heatsink and second fan to improve the cooling.

im looking at the spreadsheet for sandy bridge atm, and i want to hear what you guys think we will found in the next macbook pro 13 and 15"

im still undecided if i want a 15" or the 13"

Ill guess ill wait to see what apple offers cpu wise, gpu isnt that importent for me.

i3-2310M

Anyone would like to guess we will see in a 13" standard config, and the 15" standard config

Im guessing i3-2310M (dunno clock) for the 13"
and the i5-2520m? for the 15"

Low-end 13" - Core i3-2310M (2.1GHz)
High-end 13" - Core i5-2410M (2.3/2.9GHz)

Low-end 15" - Core i5-2520M (2.5/3.2GHz)
Mid-level 15" - Core i5-2540M (2.6/3.3GHz)
High-end 15" - Core i7-2620M (2.7/3.4GHz); BTO option for i7-2720QM (2.2/3.3GHz)

17" - Core i5-2540M; BTO options for i7-2620M and i7-2720QM

My guess is that we will see quad core but it's just a guess. Other CPUs should be pretty much the ones I listed as long as Apple uses SB for whole lineup

Thanks hellhammer, your guesses is usually preety right.
Low-end 15" looks tempting, do you dare to quess what kind of gpu we will see in there

This is what I expect. I will be going for the high end 13. :)

Hi,

I'm thinking I've made a mistake. Just purchased a mbp 13 and with reading these predictions I think I should have held out.

Do you think they will be the same price as the ones out now?

Any advice

Should I return and hold out?

If you don't need it right now, and you can get zero restocking fee, then take it back. If either of those two don't apply, just keep it and sell it if the new models appeal to you more.

Probably i3 core will be on the new ones.

And surprise will be "Flash Disk" usage, just like MacBook Air.

If Apple does for some reason continue to put Core 2 Duos in the 13", is there a reason they couldn't put the 2.8ghz and up in there? (because of wattage or something).

If they approached the 3ghz mark with C2D I'd find that acceptable. Probably better than sticking some lower clock speed i3 in there.

What if apple doesn't use sb and makes their own, like they did with the a4.

Those chips are built on ARM technology, not x86 (intel).

The whole OS, apps, extensions, etc... would have to be re-written or compiled for ARM.

For 13" they need to stick with the $1199 price point. I wish they would kill the silly white macbook so we can have a $999 mbp.

Expect prices to go up over the next few years, not down. Currency is about to go through a long period of inflation.

I believe that Apple and Microsoft will both make the move to ARM for both notebooks and desktops over the course of the decade, but the x86 "trucks" will still be around for several more years during the transition. During that period I would not look for any custom x86 chips or chipsets (unless nVidia gets into the x86 processor game too, along with their recent move into ARM).

didn't say it wouldn't....but I really see this happening. The current trend is smaller, lighter, thinner. I also hate the current trend of killing the pro products. It's all about consumer toys.

Here's what I think going from the same system as you did.

CPU: Core i3
GPU: no change or ATI mobility discrete
RAM: no change
HDD: no change
Connectivity: no change
Chassis: no change
Battery: improved

Yeah, I think it is pretty much going to get a new CPU and bumped resolution and that's it.

bazillion dollars says no 13" pro. It will be dropped and replaced by an boosted version of the air.

I'm sure 13" MBP is one of the Apple's best sellers... MBA is nice but a very limited machine. These talks about discontinuing 13" MBP are nonsense
