It would be awesome if the macbook line is killed and the mbp 13" drops to $999.

It would be awesome if the white MacBook drops to $799 and the 13" MacBook Pro drops To $999. The white MacBook is not going to go away as it exists for the education market.

I'm not much of a gamer, so the Sandy Bridge graphics would be plenty for me. Looking forward to the update. Now let's just hope Apple ditches that damn optical drive ;)

It would be great, indeed. Yet the prices of SSD should drop drastically in order to make it possible, for I can't imagine Apple putting 64-128Gs in a macbook "pro" line...

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Intel-HD-Graphics-3000-graphics-solution.43710.0.html

Review of the new intel integrated Sandy Bridge GPU. Considering it is on par with the 320M in actual gaming (to a very minimal lesser extent) Apple has no reason not to offer new core i processors in the MBP 13 :)

This makes me think that they could offer a discrete chip as well. The ATI 6630M along with the SB integrated GPU is being used in the recently announced/refreshed Thinkpad Edge 14". So it's definitely possible to fit a discrete gpu in a similar form factor.

yeah thats with an i7 crunching not an i3..

A little off topic, but with reference to notebookcheck and also Anandtechs review of the SB releases, I find it amusing how they are considering the graphics performance in desktop applications. Who the hell doesnt run a discrete gpu in a desktop???

I have however enjoyed seeing intel's ongoing investment in the mobile graphics market. My concern is now focused on the heat these cpu's are now generating, which may well put Apple off implementing these in future macbook's.

My predictions (Wishes)

1440x900 (duh...)
Dual core i5/i7 Sandy Bridge processors (Yay!)
Discrete Graphics (not betting on this... would be nice though)
8GB RAM Standard (should have be this way for all MBPs)
Blade SSD + HDD Bay (only if Apple removes the ODD)
USB3 (hopefully!)

I'd buy ^that^ machine in a jiffy.

I'm hoping for the above. I'm not planning on 8gb standard or usb3..

Your saying the 13" Pro will be killed off and the Mac Pro will stay? If any Mac is going to go it'll be the Mac Pro for sure!

Nooo... Far too many professionals use the Mac Pro to be killed off. If any Mac is going to be killed off it would be the Mac Mini, and they wouldn't do that. It's their most affordable Mac.

how did you get apple to price match..?

The first Apple store I walked in and showed them the Microcenter website, which also has a local store by me. The rep had to ask his manager and came back with some excuse that he couldn't but that he could work out the student discount. I already was qualified for the Government discount but MC was still cheaper and that was the price I wanted it at. So I had to walk out the first store. So when I got to my car I called another local APPLE store by phone and was told NO, that they don't do pricematching. I mentioned that others were able too and that articles online had mentioned that APPLE does pricematching. So I was heading on my way home which was a city over and stopped in another APPLE store that was located in the mall. I asked the rep and showed them the MC website and the rep went to ask the supervisor. She came back and said they would do it, AWESOME!!! On top of that they had a promo if you buy a HP printer that was $100, you get a rebate for the $100 so the printer was FREE! When you try to price match at APPLE you may have to try several stores. Luckily for me, I live in the SF BAY AREA and they are tons of them in every direction. Good Luck!

I am considering a 13" Pro to replace my Santa Rosa MB. I'm going to wait it out, not in a rush. I like the size, weight and form factor and aluminum.

Apple has changed the 13.3" screen in the Air to 1440x900, I'd like to see that happen with the other 13.3" screens.

As for CPU, I'd also like to see a i3 or i5 and possibly an ATI GPU. ATI just announced their 6 series for Mobile.

If they go with a Intel IGP, I hope it's better than the current Nvidia 320/330M. One of the reasons I want to upgrade is that the GMAX3100 is crap.

They need to offer anti glare, the reflections on the screen drive be absolutly bonkers... So friggen annoying. I went with the 13 for portability when traveling, regret it, wish I got. 15 with anti glare.

I could see 8GB happening. It really wouldn't cost Apple a whole lot more.

I'm not really betting on USB3 though, even though it's much needed. Light Peak is a ways off.

I disagree with that the white mb is mainly in the education market, I am in high school and no one has a mb everyone goes for the Mbp. Make the 13" Mbp $999 and that would be perfect

Idk if this is biased but Im a highschooler in a pretty wealthy area and NO ONE has a white macbook and the rare ones that do are girls who thought the white looked cooler. My thoughts on this are if you can afford to drop 1k+ on a regular macbook you can afford to pay a little more to get the macbook pro which is really true. I think if apple dropped the price of the regular MacBook to like 800 we would be seeing allot more of them just because it would space it out from the pro a bit. Of all the Mac owners I know they all have pro's...

Which is exactly why Apple has them priced the way they are currently. If Apple lowered the price on the MB, more folks would buy that instead of the MBP. It makes more financial sense to have the a lot of people purchase a $1200 Mac compared to a $800 one.

One thing I gotta say is Apple is really crafty and deliberate about their price points. There's nothing arbitrary about them. They know what they're doing in order to sell what they want to sell.

Totally agree. I was at my local Apple Store yesterday, playing around with the 17", and across the table was some girl, in her 30s, and she was like... this silver one is only $200 more than the white one. And some other dude with her was like "only $200 more, nice". A whole group of them just kept repeating the "only $200 more" line in one way or another.

But that's just a perfect example supporting what you just said.

The white MB is just there for Apple to flaunt the impression that they still care about the "budged-wise" consumer, and that they don't limit their machines to high-price ones. It makes the company look more consumer-friendly overall, which is what they are striving for.

Perfect example.

There's a reason why Apple has been so successful over the years. They realize that product placement and promotion/timing is just as, if not more, important than the actual products themselves.

Yes and no. It's not just about "looking friendly." Apple wouldn't offer a certain product if they didn't plan on making a substantial profit from it. They know that there are those that just want the bottom of the line Mac, and that's who the plastic one is for. Even though they aren't selling as many, I bet that the profit margin on the entry level MB is greater than that of the MBP; they are still making a ton of money off of them.

... Sure. But it also depends on how deeply in love of the girl the dude was... :D
