2011 Macbook Pro Mockups PLEASE!

Not like it really matters, all one would have to do is pull out their iphone 4 to do the same thing...rolls eyes.
yeah but it's more obvious when you're pointing a cell phone at somebody. however, if your laptop had a rear facing camera, the person wouldn't be able to tell if you were using it to stare at them.

unless they caught the reflection in a window behind you or something.. that could be awkward..

or a great conversation starter...

SSD integrated onto the MB!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek: Do you have intelligence? If Apple did that then kiss goodbye to ANY chance of changing the drives for bigger ones, wow a thinner laptop at the cost of paying Apple prices for SSD you can never upgrade!!!!! And NO you CANNOT upgrade the Air's SSD... and they are also not as good performance wise as the likes of Intel or OCZ etc drives.

There is no reason that having the SSD chips integrated into the logic board can't be just as fast as having them in a removable enclosure. I suspect you could even make them faster as you'd have a more direct path and less constraints. To get OCZ speed you'd only have to integrate OCZ chips. You save space and weight at the cost of not being able to upgrade, which is fine. You can always BTO the SSD and buy the space you'll need.

And no chance Apple would bother to develop a superdrive you can connect into an Airport, why? what is the point? most likely say 100 people would buy it tops.

Apple already makes the MBA USB superdrive, and you can plug in and share a USB hard drive on an Airport base station. Maybe the optical drive could be shared with a firmware upgrade.

Just how thin do people actually want a laptop to be? You do all realise that by law's of physics if you have a thinner laptop, you HAVE to use lower powered components so it doesn't melt?
In the REAL world people actually expect a DVD drive to be, you know, in the chassis of there 12, 13, 15, 17, 19"..... laptops. Who'd have thought eh?

Just because you don't have the optical drive built-in doesn't mean you can't use one. An optical drive is used occasionally, there's no point in carrying it around all the time.

I think it would be great if apple integrated a 60GB or 100GB SSD into the next macbook pros, however I think they should do this on the logic board or something. Leaving the space for a normal 2.5" HDD this way people will have the best of both worlds (no need to a rip out the optical drive..) It would really bring back the Pro name aswell.

Only a thought :p

So your saying that you would PREFER to pay APPLE prices for SSD!:eek::eek: more fool you then sir... your in a minority on that one I'm afraid. The same as accepting a MacBook PRO that you cannot upgrade the storage drive in.

As for the USB drive, again please try and provide a valid argument as to just why you would bother to connect it into an Airport? It's not a network mass storage device.
As for the argument about weather to include a DVD drive or not is your personal opinion.

What I would like to see and would work best for me...and to each their own because some people are flame happy here..

A BTO option for:
Different anodized colors like on the iPods. (I wouldn't mind waiting a week or two longer for that)
Optional superdrive/BD, if you didn't pick either then you would have a choice of more storage, battery or save a couple dollars. (Don't tell me BD is dumb for a laptop because HD doesn't work right. I have about 180 BDs and maybe 20 of those have DVDs so I don't have much use for the DVD drive for watching movies.)
HDMI (Primarily for convenience; it is pretty much a standard now.)
USB 3.0 with option for third port instead of FW.
Two extra keys on the sides of the arrows. (Not that big of a deal, just wasted space haha.)
Not that I would use it but option for sim card for mobile internet.
Then the usual junk, better screen(resolution/anti-glare options), faster processor, etc..

Not Apple related but better WiFi and all fiber optic connections in the U.S. :)

If I were really dreaming:
A solar panel in the Apple logo that would contribute to battery power.
Mind control, think it..do it.
More efficient and robust design, make this thing withstand nuclear war haha.
Going off a Magsafe characteristic, have all connections use a magnet.
Wirelessly connect to all devices and have ability to control them.

So the OP wants a thinner MBP, with no optical drive and no black edge around the screen. Why don't you just get a MBA?

Every time I feel like I don't need an optical drive something comes up, like the other day I hadn't used my optical drive in months and months and I was in a forum discussing how it wouldnt be missed if Apple got rid of it... Sure enough this weekend my in-laws bring over a bunch of CD's that they want me to rip for them..... So I feel like its one of those things that we will miss once its gone. At least some people.

ok...the moc-up of the MB is the AIR. go get one! its the same price as the mid-end MBP and you don't need to anger all of us real PROs over here. i need the optical drive every day for many purposes be it burning movies or music or watching movies, or doing actual work like a professional should, PRO is standing for professional in case you kids did not know. the pro will NOT get thinner, the black bezel will stay unless you get the HD matte upgrade, the optical drive STAYS and NO REAR VIEW CAMERA ITS Stupid. now have i made the statements above clear enough for you all?

the pro is not meant for the mainstream market it is meant for people who do real work with it. i wish they had 2 drives forget none. but thats just wishful thinking.

I Love this thought! It's awesome...dual drive options, in the interim (and as SSD technology develops and prices continue to drop)...doesn't have to be "burned" or soldered on to the Logic Board...BUT, like standard memory, just a slot to slide it in and out (it looks as though it's just a few SDXC cards back to back:)). Obviously, pre-shipment, the OS and all of the applications provided from Apple would be on the SSD...with continued support for the bigger and cheaper HDD. Love to have a 7200rpm 1gig drive....along with 256gigs in SSD for apps.

So your saying that you would PREFER to pay APPLE prices for SSD!:eek::eek: more fool you then sir... your in a minority on that one I'm afraid. The same as accepting a MacBook PRO that you cannot upgrade the storage drive in.

Do you really have to respond like that in a "Mock-Up" thread? You certainly show your age...any brainstorming meeting I've ever been to, there's never a "Bad" idea or a "Foolish" thought...and CERTAINLY, everything in discussion will be "Personal Opinion". Perhaps, apolloa, you didn't mean to come across as you did...but to discount anyone's opinions in a thread that asks for just that...seems kinda silly, if you consider it:rolleyes:

I like the black bezel (just upgraded to the 2010 17" i7)...but I really, really liked my older 15" MBP (2007), sizewize...however, an express slot is essential in my occupation. So...bringing back (I know, Apple doesn't do that:))...the PCMICA express slot on all of the 15"+ versions would be nice. I still dig having my "SuperDrive" slot...although, most of you are correct, it's rare that I use it.

HDMI and USB3.0 would be cool...eSata external connect would help me more right now...but regardless, is there ANY way to separate...even by an extra 1/8-1/4" the space between my 3 USB 2.0 ports? Even on my 17", I can only use two if I use my AirCard, or a couple of my thumb drives....they're just a bit too close together.

All in all, I'm really happy with this laptop (My mid 2010 MBP), and it's design, speed, and the overall performance. It's as fast as I need for video editing in the field and PS work...lots of real estate for writing my press releases and articles, and I'm even happy with it's size, portability, and...I may be in the minority...but I'm really diggin' the battery life. I've got an older PowerBook G4 (gets about 55-65 minutes), my '07 15" MBP (maybe 2 hours +/- 15 minutes), but my new 17" is between 4.5 and 7 hours, depending on usage. I know...big span, but if I'm not constantly working on the machine....it'll last all day going in and out of sleep. If I'm editing (and surfing while waiting for rendering of effects, etc...checking email, backing up iPad/iPhone, etc)...and constantly using it, it's closer to 4 and a half to 5 hours. Kinda cool for such power...obviously though, as battery tech continues to mature...an even longer lasting battery would be a cool addition!

Sorry to ramble

J

Sigh, show my age? I think you mis understand and I can say what I want, but I guess I'm 5?? Well I glad that you at least realise it's make believe the the ODD will be removed....
Oh but it's just MY personal opinion...

You mean those stupid meetings where a bunch of stupid people sit around suggesting stupid things because the stupid boss said there was no such thing as a stupid idea?

Yeah right, those really work. :)

Yup, because he DEFINITELY said that you were 5.
Go be immature somewhere else.

Thanks for your constructive comment there mate, really appreciated it and it's added great value.

As I've said before all you will get is the exact same design as now with the ODD but using 16:10 format screens based on the rumours. So why doesn't someone mock that up??

I thought the current MBP's were 16:10, and they were moving TO 16:9, or am I just tired and have that backwards?

I simply don't understand why so many responses say that any professional macbook model should have a superdrive. As if I'm some fool who should just get a macbook air because I do nothing with my superdrive. My superdrive has been broken in my 15 inch MBP and I haven't missed it once. I do music editing and light video editing. No need for a CD or DVD there. When the app store comes out, there will be absolutely no need to install anything from a CD or DVD anymore. It just seems like such a waste. Also, since all these "
professionals" are writing like they are so superior to everyone else on these boards (belittling everyone else), you should notice by now distributing anything via CD or DVD is expensive, inefficient, a hassle, and prone to scratches. Above all, the superdrive is one of the most common things to malfunction in laptops due to an excess of moving parts. If you are in the small demographic who needs an optical drive on a daily basis, you are most likely working at an office and not burning disks on the road (since the battery couldn't handle it anyway) and you may as well plug in an external superdrive device. Just my two cents.

absolutely right :)

I'm a mockup fiend, but SUCK at photoshop! Its always so exciting to see what people think up when they put together mockups of new Apple products. Part of me likes to think that they even make slight changes and modifications, or even get full ideas, from mockups in forums! I know, long shot, but who knows.

Anyone want to start mocking up?!?!

Apple made it clear that the new Air is the future of laptops. They also made it clear that optical drives are done with; hence the Mac App Store. So here is what I want to SEE in the next MBP, keeping Apple's business models in mind of course.

-Get rid of black frame around screen! Does not look professional, in my opinion does not look good at all.
-Gloss is fine (and necessary to sell to many consumers), but not THAT much gloss.
-No optical drive
-Thinner body
-I personally prefer the old MBP keyboard over the new one used in all MBs, but I understand the hardware advantages so they probably wouldn't go back.
-Anything fun you might want to add!
-I'm hoping its a brand new design, not just a rework of the current one.
-More USB
-HDMI (fingers crossed)

Anybody want to put something together?

Theres been a lot of internally leaked photos of the next MBP design already, just go to the apple store and click on the macbook pro section.

:Sigh: Macbook "PRO" go ahead and get an Air. no one's stopping you, go ahead! and downloading your stuff via app store is stupid. thats nice that you have the iTunes account if your computer dies, but who wants that hassle? and what if you switch back to PC, god forbid, where's your stuff? exactly. most PROFESSIONAL software costs over 500 bucks and most if not all people with real businesses would like to have a hard real copy of the data as opposed to digital stuff backed up somewhere far away. even i prefer a hard drive over a little flash memory stick any day. moving parts my rear. ive literally thrown my laptop 6 feet onto my bed multiple times if not every day and so far nothing has happened. all this "solid state is better because there's less chance of it breaking" is nonsense because ive thrown my ipod classic at people too. im a very violent person, and none of my stuff has ever broken. aside from accidentally washing my first nano. "woops!"

thats great that you and a handful of other people never use their disk drives but i use mine constantly and yes literally constantly as in i have a disk in it every time of the day and sometimes im using an external disk drive as well. once i even had 5 running as i was backing up my hard drive on 5 blu-ray disks and mac has no bluray drive which i would love.

your not the majority. go get an Air and leave the Pro alone so it can be a literal Pro.

and add a floppy to the macbook pro! this way i could install software through floppy disks when my superdrive is broken or i run out of cds.

dont need to be a d*** about it you know, and when you go to a store, what's on all the shelves? CDs people. its easier. and you obviously didnt take into consideration the very valid points i had made.
