Air = no cd drive
Pro = cd drive
simply put
your not the majority. go get an Air and leave the Pro alone so it can be a literal Pro.

dont need to be a d*** about it you know, and when you go to a store, what's on all the shelves? CDs people. its easier. and you obviously didnt take into consideration the very valid points i had made.

Ha ha. Real Pro. Ah ahha ahha aha ha ha.
*bows before progessive-thinking 'real pro'*

Seriously... get on your horse and ride back to the 90s. Put some Pearl Jam or Nirvana on and rid yourself of this angst.

Real Pros are looking forward, real pros don't desperately hang on to dying tech because they're not adaptable enough to move with the times.

I hope you've got some other skills, as your day job is going the same way as the CD.

and when you go to a store, what's on all the shelves? CDs people.
Actually, I haven't seen a software "CD" in ages. They're mostly DVD's these days.

And "shelves" (as in plural) might be stretching it a bit. One or two maybe but the retail storefront displaying aisle after aisle of computer software is no more. Other than high priced specialty software, and game consoles, disk media distribution is dead.

As far as the term "pro" goes...

Up until 3 years ago I used to be a videographer and burned media almost daily. And as a pro (which to me implies earning money) I wouldn't dream of using a cheap-assed internal burner to deliver a product anyway.

Again, given the myriad of new choices made possible by removing the SuperDrive (especially in the MBP13) it's a no-brainer to do just that. It just doesn't make sense to dedicate all that internal space for casual use if that same space can be utilized for something better that we'd use every single time the macbook was booted up.

The above of course is contingent on whether Apple does indeed utilize that space for something other than a leaner and more stylish 13MBP. If they do that I say just discontinue the damn thing already and get on with the task of beefing up the Air.

Just because you haven't broken a hard drive due to shock doesn't mean that nobody has. It's a very well known fact that HDs are less shock resistant since they have moving parts. Let alone the other disadvantages (noise, vibration, speed, lifespan....). The only reason why SSDs haven't made HDs completely obsolete is the price per GB.

Here's my mockup. Hope you like it.

I just bought my new macbook pro 3 days ago and I have already used the DVD drive, I do not want to have no DVD drive. Why would I want it gone. The DVD drive is not for games (apps), it's for software and burning disks. I don't use my mini display port, do I wan't it gone? No. If people use it, I'll tolerate having an extra feature. As to thinner, It's pretty thin. I think that the bezel is nice, I really don't care what happens to the bezel. The battery life is the best in the market but it might be able to be improved. I absolutely love the keyboard and it's much more durable than any old mac one or PC one. I use the SD card slot a lot. I like the unibody look of it. A rear facing camera? Stupid. Imagine holding up a 10" iPad to take a picture. Stupid. Now imagine holding up a 17" MacBook Pro

Here's my mockup. Hope you like it.

I don't like it. Sorry, The Macbook Pro should stay a "pro" model. They can make the Macbook Air portable and change the Macbook, but I hope they don't make the Macbook Pro a wimpy machine. I'm fine with how thin it is already compared to other ugly notebooks in my opinion. I believe the Macbook Pro should have performance in mind over portability. If they make the Macbook Pro a thin machine, the components won't have much power and the battery life will decrease. Apple needs to have a performance notebook and that is the Pro and should stay that way. These are my opinions only, I don't expect you to agree, I just wanted to share my thoughts.

I don't understand what OP is asking. So, you don't want black bezel and you don't want optical drive. So you want MBA? Go buy MBA then.

HDMI is not happening. Apple won't do it.

that's what I said! then everyone yells at me for wanting to keep the damn Cd/DVD drive. go buy the AIR, im sure they'll boost the specs eventually to your likings, all you want is an unrealistic computer with a 3GHz core processor with a 1TB SSD and have it under half an inch. good luck there, bud.

And honestly, i can Gimp a better laptop design myself. all you people are doing is stealing an Air picture off the internet, changing the color of the bezel and cropping out the "Air" and replacing it with "Pro" at the bottom. fantastic job, you're a real professional. and where would you fit good speakers on that thing?

don't be a troll (or a d*** as you called me in another thread).

Apple is expensive to buy from. Just because most of the world can't afford them, doesn't mean they make magical products or else we would have never dying batteries, 5,000,000ghz 50 core processors in base laptops. NOT HAPPENING

Preface: First post and first mockup
Tried to keep it simple and follow the requirments. I also have a penchant for black Macs.
<snip>
I'd definitely buy that if it looked like the current matte MBP w/ an anodized black aluminum body. From your picture it looks like a giant block.

maybe not everyone needs an optical drive, but they should at least make it optional for people who like to rip their CDs or watch DVDs.

Well seriously this is a lame thread with lame designs on it. and i can call whoever whatever i want because this is the internet.

i dont want to break my Pro accidentally because its not strong enough. thats the Air's job. this is a thread about macbook pro mock-ups not macbook air mock-ups and all i am trying to do is make things a little more on-topic so your small little arguments from the other thread can stay on that thread plz. i have other things to discuss in other places too.

and the only technical difference realistically possible for the PRO as for 2011 is a rearrangement of the ports and maybe switch the lock and super-drive spots so locking it can be a little less in the way and possibly moving the battery life indicator lights to the front or top for easier viewing. no special half an inch ultrathin pro/air hybrid.

Apple got rid of all the old powerbooks and such for one reason as to not confuse people with the huge variety of laptops and instead separating them into categories like the macbook, pro, air or imac, mini, macpro, they're not gonna make a paperbook pro now will they? all i want to know is why do you want the pro to look more like the Air? is there any real reason? extra power in it? you can already place an extra hard drive instead of the super-drive anyway yourself. wait a couple years and the air will have more power and just get that.

in my opinion, i couldn't really care less as bestbuy will still have the old ones anyway for cheaper. not everyone has an apple store near them you know. btw my usual posts are made at 3AM where i am so im not exactly thinking straight. today im just bored early.

as the name of the thread suggests, he is asking for "Pro mockups PLEASE!"

But are you clamoring for mockups that depict what users want OR what they think Apple will actually come up with?

If it's the later then I think they're pretty close (no matter how much it pisses you off).

You're going to see more "Air" like qualities in the MBP sooner or later. (And probably a lot sooner than any of us really want).

If it has manual transmission I think consumers will actually prefer the 8-Cylinder to the 6-Cylinder. This adds power while saving (a small amount) of gasoline.

This is the most constructive and relevant post on this thread.

Blackmac

This is what I would like to see.
kill the SD card port. I have dozens of uses for SD but I dont like how the Sd card sticks out of the side of the mac. I also would prefer a 3rd usb (or firewire) on the 15" MBP.
The screen should go right up to the bezel. Nuff said.
Black anodized aluminum. I think it will look cool when the black starts to scratch and wear. Like a well used M16.
Front edge is rolled. The sharp front edge bugs me when I am doing heavy coding.
I also photoshopped in a sandy bridge CPU and hybrid storage, Oh yeah, and it supports up to 16 gigs of ram.

I kinda like it, It isn't a macbook air

That's pretty nice. I wish they would bring black back.

QFT

It's also the most original one I've seen in this thread. Even if Apple were to remove both the ODD and HDD, they still couldn't bring it down to being MBA thin because you can't cool a decent processor and graphics card with that form factor.

This thing is beautiful. I'd like maybe a quarter inch bigger gap between USB ports, so that when something is plugged in it doesn't partially block the port next to it.
