I don't know why people want the MBP to be thinner.. MBP is thinner than 99% laptops that isnt ultra portable and have crappy specs. I prefer more power or battery life :D

Battery I think are pretty good. Power err not so much but lighter or better quality is expected. It keeps the competition on their toes. Just remember how crappy laptops used to be until Apple started to bring some serious quality products in the past 7 years even more so in the current MBP line.

You obviously aren't a designer, and know nothing about design at all.

Okay, can't argue there.

What is the point...really? Apparently you don't rip DVDs...
Thinner body = less power. Just go buy an air why dontcha?
They DEFINITELY won't go back. The new chicklet keyboards are more "modern" looking, which is a huge design aspect to Apple. The old keyboard is definitely more effecient, but look is huge to Apple...
FINGERS CROSSED!
Mine has 3...how many do you need? Buy a dock that more USB ports...problem solved...
HIGHLY DOUBT IT. Would be nice though? I'm perfectly happy with my DVI output though.

Stop talkin like you know what you are talking about. you are not an apple employee or rep.. sooo have a seat "chris hansen voice"

Hmmm... again I see this going into chaos about macbook air vs macbook pro slim. :/

Why? well, when the 24th comes and the 13" still has its opti drive, we all get to gloat and laugh at you all. How confident are you now? Hm? do you really expect them to do that? the Sandy bridge technology is the best thing in the next release and that is all. A black anodized MBP would be nice, but frankly not this year. And even next year is doubtful for any of these thin and light things. Apple is currently working with Intel on the Light Peak as mentioned previously and that will probably also be the ONLY thing they release next year aside from perhaps a 1080p screen. They're a corporation to make money. They want to update as little as possible and still make it look amazing in a keynote to hypnotize consumers into buying the laptop so when another good thing comes, they go buy that one too. It's the way it works. Suck it up because apple is more likely to adopt blu ray in their next iMac than have this MBP any thinner and remove the opti drive.

It is more about making it lighter at this point.

I'm a video and audio "pro" and an amateur (often at the same time :p). I use a 2007 15" MBP. It has an ODD, which I use regularly. I would be more than happy to see the new MBP get rid of the internal ODD. I know when I'm going to use one and when I'm not. When I'm not, it's wasted space and weight. When I need one, I'm a lot less worried about space and weight as I'm usually tethered to a power cord anyhow. The current slimline external is just dandy.

Now if they'd just bring the expresscard slot back!

That black MacBook Pro mockup is super awesome... holy crap.

If they had that, I would instantly buy, not even wait for the iPod promo in May.

You fail sir

Hi, I'm a failure.

My apologies for wanting something that demonstratively aids my "pro" work on a "pro" machine. You can have an external ODD, but you can't really have an external expresscard slot.

I feel I can get my work done without the bulk of a 17" machine yet still want an expresscard slot so that I can use a Matrox MXO2 mini w/ Max with it or use it to connect my eSATA drives or for a card reader or heck, maybe someone'll introduce a nice external ODD to go with it!

Or your avid hardware, or your protools hardware or your apogee hardware, another firewire buss is nice when doing audio or video too.

This argument has been done before and you're waisting your breath trust me. Express card is no go >9000%.

Well, as long as you are being upfront about it... ;)

Lulz. Probably. :D

Mockup of the next MBP:

IF there is a case design I think it will be fairly minimal. I think it will just blend the MBP and the MBA a little bit. I think they had an overwhelming response with the higher-res screen on the MBA so they are going to go with that. I also think that they will make it thinner which they can do by making the battery thinner, the logic board smaller, the memory soldered on-board (which I feel they might do), and make the screen panel thinner. Also, they can make it APPEAR thinner by tapering the bottom edges more, like they did on the MBA.

Other than that, I think we will see either the i3 or i5 chip in it but thats about it, folks. So to recap:

- Higher-res screen
- Thinner design (bottom shaped like the MBA)
- Soldered memory chips on-board
- i3 or i5 chip
- STILL has optical drive

Finally, here is my mockup!

I do not like this and hope it does not become a trend for the MacBook lines.

Honestly, I think most people buy a macbook and keep it like it is. It's really just changing a simple trend. Right now you can have a MAX of 8GB, so why not just max it out up front? I don't think it's that bad of an idea because I feel it can bring the cost of a MB down $100-200.

I hope they do change the color of the laptops to that black aluminum I've seen in here a few times. That would make it pretty tough to buy a 2010 refurb rather than a new laptop. Here's to hoping.

I don't really care for thinner because our Macbook Pros are already hot as it is and getting thinner won't help ventilation at all. However I do care it to be lighter - lets hope that liquid metal rumor is true.

I hope the liquid metal can handle the heat better. My mac feels like a hot iron after a whole day of work.

I don't know too much about liquid metal but is it more heat resistant? You would think a metal that behaves more like plastic would not handle heat so well.

I'd go with what ever it takes to get a longer battery life when the processor is actually loaded with actual work load. My own MB still easily manages to get 4 hours with screen at 1/3 brightness and running a few programs but give it a bit of real work to do like burning a dvd and the screen on half brightness and that battery load goes down to about 55 minutes. (not even enough to burn the disk in the first place).

Battery, battery, battery.........................
